  1. I love my birds. I have 3 of them (TAG, Green Aracari, Brown-headed). But, I love cats. I've wanted one for twenty years. I will have a 3 month old cat living with me in 6 weeks. I plan to keep the cat in my bedroom (its large) when I am not home (the birds are in the living room). I know I need to keep an eye on everything while the cat is out. I'm going to keep the birds inside their cages when the cat is out. I'm not worried about the cat actually killing the birds, more the stress the cat will cause them. My TAG grew up in a house with a cat before I adopted her. I figure she'll be okay. Any advice is welcomed.
  2. Hello, She is constantly out of her cage. I meant to say she moves to the back of the top of the cage. We went through the "honeymoon" stage. I coaxed her out of that by offering her seeds to step up. That worked well. But now, however, she's not even interested in that. There was a point where she was shedding a lot of feathers (not plucking). It seems that has stopped but she is still distant.
  3. My Tag used to love stepping up. Now she'll wants no part of it. She still likes me in the same room, but has no desire to step up to my hand. When I stand up to walk over to her, she moves to the back of the cage. This has been going on for a few months.
  4. I've had my TAG for 8 months. I believe she is about 7 years old. She is a great bird, but only now starting to come along. She steps up about 90% of the time and vocalizes when I leave the room. I'm just posting this to say that rescuing is the way to go. I know her former owners didn't abuse her, but I love her so much more than they did. If you can provide love (and toys) for a bird, why not take one off the hands from someone who can't?
  5. Hello, in the 6 months I've had her, my TAG has broken 3 flight feathers. She is not plucking at all, but I don't know if this is normal. She is not crashing into walls or floors. I have no idea how this last one happened. She was aggressively playing in her water bowl this afternoon though.
  6. So I get there and the TAG is in the tree! This bird seems to live a great life. Even if I planned to take it, I wouldn't as I could not provide for this bird like the current owners do. I think I talked the owners into keeping him.
  7. Alright. I have two potential homes lined up. Both with prior Grey experience.
  8. No, no earrings. But I think there's something to the attention thing.
  9. I'm going to pass on the bird, but work to relocate it. I'm going to meet it this weekend and hopefully find an owner in a week. I hope the bird isn't a sweetheart.
  10. I have two birds. A TAG and a brown headed parrot. I was thinking today that having two birds is a difficult task. Not two hours later, a woman called me and said a couple wanted to give away their CAG. Apparently it bonded to the husband and it's nasty to the kids and wife. I'm a dude and figure it would be okay with me, but I can't handle three. But I want it!
  11. Hello, I have about a 25% success rate with my TAG stepping up. I've had her for 5 months. However, when I'm wearing headphones, the bird wants nothing else than to be picked up. 100% of the time. Once I take off the headphones and return her to her cage, and then try again - she won't step up. Thoughts?
  12. My birds wont touch their veggies. Well, they touch them, but they throw them out of their dishes. I've had quite enough of chopping up carrots, broccoli, etc. if it just ends up on the floor. Isn't Roudybush enough?
  13. No, in fact I'd say she's getting friendlier with me. Her posture is the same.
  14. After about 4 months with me, my 6 year old Timneh is speaking up a storm. However, I've noticed in the last week or so I see she is spending a lot of time staring at the wall. The wall is about 8 inches from the cage. The next closest wall is about 2 feet away. Is this abnormal?
