Aww I'm so sorry! This makes me so sad, I was so hoping that things would turn out well for you

What an experience! Is that the same as bringing a bird from the US to Germany or Japan and back? Is that what we will have to go through? I'm in the Air Force and we are most likely going overseas in a year... and leaving behind Yoshi is not an option!

I Didn't See That Coming (You Provide the Story)

Lol, I never thought Yoshi would be as fun as she is I never thought my husband (not a bird person) would like her as much as he does! He isn't obsessed like me, but he likes her a lot more than I thought he would. I think living with a happy grey forces you to love the lovable creature no matter if you are a bird person or not I never thought Yoshi would sound so odd! lol... I was expecting squawks, but nope, Yoshi is a quiet bird except when she is excited... when she does try and make conversation she does a series of soft squawks and 'gremlin' like speech, working on her human speech but sounding terrible at the moment and making us laugh our butts off, lol... -
I Didn't See That Coming (You Provide the Story)

Yoshi's wings were clipped after her 'first flight' apparently, and we got her at 4 months old. Now, flying is probably going to be tough on Yoshi, as she never properly learned, but she is definately going to be allowed to grow those feathers back... I don't like the idea of taking the ability of flight away from a bird AT ALL, especially for convenience, but there you go... Yoshi is pretty clumsy, and when she falls, she falls hard. Being able to fly would be much safer for her in our houshold. Whatever you choose to do, remember that it is a BIG decision. The feathers take a long time to grow back, and they do not grow back in evenly... and clipping a bird's feathers does not mean they cannot fly away if they get outside anyway...<br><br>Post edited by: jessdecutie18, at: 2010/01/12 02:32 -

I love flight pictures

I'm glad to hear Bella is doing better As far as kids are concerned... Yoshi (9 months now) seems to get rather nervous with kids running around yelling and being crazy, she just doesn't like the unexpected. But if kids, like my nieces, behave around her, don't poke and prod her, she loves chatting with them and doing tricks and is perfectly happy. I think it depends on how easily your bird is stressed, and how the kids approach the bird (treats help form a better friendship too!)

My husband and I actually talked about this after I read this thread. I'd be able to tell by the way she acted around me, the little red feathers currently scattered on her belly, the little white feathers that pokes out on her wing... Mike (husband) said he could tell by the way she acted when he told her to do tricks, like 'bang' and falling over just the way she does... and by the marks on her beak...

Lol, my left hand has lots of little scratches that I get daily from her talons, but luckily nothing big... Yoshi very rarely leaves a mark with her beak, just hard enough to hurt and get her point across, then she will push my hand away and I don't try her more than that. She's pretty loving really, as long as you don't push her after it's obvious she doesn't want to do something

I just discovered this and it made me laugh! Now I have a new task... Next time Yoshi's face is a total disaster I will snap a pic
-
Aww I like that last one, she looks like quite the poser! Nope, you aren't alone... we all worry about our greys, and it's difficult at first not knowing their exact body language or their likes and dislikes... been there
-
Lol someone wants to get her own way Can't help but love em!
-
Can't wait to see some photos She seems to be doing extremely well if you have only had her this short time! This forum contains lots of information to go through, it helped me out a lot with my Timneh Yoshi... although Yoshi isn't my first bird I'm glad you are taking it slow... good luck to you and your new fid!

Well hello! It's nice to hear about your birds Congrats on being a Massage Therapist! I've never gotten a massage lol, they are so expensive! Baxter sounds like real fun I'm sorry about Bonkers, hope he comes round for you! That's awesome that you took in Nemo, I'm sure he will start letting those feathers come back now that he is in your care, after he settles in a bit

I'm so sorry about Juno At least you still have Java! If the transmission of bacteria is 'short-lived' (if Java even is a carrier) then can't you just wait a while and then eventually get another Grey? I know there will still be a hole in your heart for your Juno, but maybe another grey would be nice?

Lol Acappella, I'm not good with videos but perhaps I will give it a try RudysMom: $380 is a good price! I paid $425 for mine and it came in a thousand pieces, took FOREVER to put together. It's worth it now though, and Yoshi loves it. I can imagine Rudy getting lost in the darkness of a black cage

Praying for good news... -
I've never dealt with a plucking bird before, but good luck It'll be a long process until your bird is completly comfortable with you and your ways, but be persistent and don't give up hope, as he will love you forever for the much better life you have given him He just needs to understand that this is his forever home now and that he isn't going to be given to another home or shoved in another cage with no toys and abandoned!

No water adventures since then Luckily her water bowls stay pretty clean, I make sure to check them every day I am glad I got those pics though in case it never happens again!
-
Wow Dan, lol... such terrible diseases!
-
Lol... posts like this do make me wonder who Yoshi will mimic... she can't talk yet but she seems to like both my husband and I equally She will do most tricks better with him and cuddles most with me

Immigrating with an African Grey?
jessdecutie18 replied to Jonno2343's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Welcome I just got my Grey Yoshi from a wonderful breeder here in Florida mid last year. After doing a ton of looking around, I found that the price around here ranges from $800 to $1300 for a baby Grey from a well known breeder. Don't forget though, your Grey isn't usually your main expense in the beginning! By the time I bought a huge cage, playstand, table stand, a bunch of toys, a big ladder, food, etc etc etc... and then Yoshi herself (for $900) I had spent $2000. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend for your Grey's happiness, and also if you are wanting a baby. Craigslist has plenty of good rehoming offers, and while rehoming is a challenge those Greys need love too and are usually much cheaper priced... I've seen a couple offers of $300 or $500 and the bird comes with stuff it needs, the loving owner just wants the bird to go to a good home. It's your decision, but I'd wait
