1. Welcome to the forum My TAG Yoshi is 10 months old now, and I love her to death. I believe she is on the brink of talking, as she makes extremely weird gremlin noises all the time now, but nothing at all clear. It is pretty funny to hear her! I can understand wanting someone to talk to and communicate with… I feel like Yoshi is so smart, she really understands moods and I try not to be around her if I am not happy or frustrated, because I feel she picks that up… and I know I’m not crazy lol because others here say the birds pick up on their moods too As far as sounds go, Yoshi is usually not all that loud… she yells contact calls if I am not in the room and needs constant reassurance that I am still able to talk to her, lol… she makes a lot of cute little squeaks and now all that gremlin talk… Dust: Yoshi does create a lot of dust, for sure, but nothing unbearable and she does get 3 showers a week with me and that helps for sure! Yoshi seems to be in the middle between tolerating the shower and enjoying it… her favorite seems to be a quick soaking in the shower followed by new fresh cold water bowls (If there is ice in them she loves it all the more) that she goes straight for and splashes around it. Greys like cold water Yoshi is shy around new people, but warms up to them before long and is curious enough to go to them… she just doesn’t like fast movements and therefore is a little awkward around kids… Yoshi has been on monthly road trips since we got her, and never seems to mind… she cuddles up in a blanket in our cat carrier type travel cage, and either zones out, nibbles at a shredder toy we always put in there, or makes soft squeaks and listens to us She knows that she always gets spoiled on the other end of the trip She has never traveled more than 40 minutes straight though. Yoshi has seemed a bit hormonal lately… but my husband has more trouble with that then I do. I can see she isn’t happy being touched and just wants to be left alone, and now I stop my attempt to touch her, ask for a kiss, and give her a peanut or a grape or something if she does. Then I go about my own business and leave her to play. My husband seems to want to be the one trying his luck by not leaving her alone, lol. Hope that’s helpful, and once again hope you enjoy the forum! I sure do!
2. You know the huge cages, like my Yoshi's cage, that have a divider in the middle, so that you can have two birds? Controvesial question I'm sure but I'd like to know what people's opinions are on having two greys in one split cage? I know some people have had two greys in one cage, no splitting, which would be great... Would they try to bite each other through the divider bars? Could the divider be covered so that couldn't happen? Could it be taken out and they be together? Thanks P.S. How would age difference affect them. Say if my 10 month old Yoshi was to share a cage with a 12 year old Timneh. What about a Timneh and a Congo together?

Post edited by: jessdecutie18, at: 2010/02/01 19:34

9. Aww My Yoshi loves those things, but she pulls the bell out in no time so we have moved on to other toys
10. I got all excited... got bits and pieces in my shopping cart... but the shipping for FL is $16!

13. Changing up Yoshi's cage today, I decided to put a new big whiffle ball outside her cage (one of the fun ones with bells inside)... and I put it hung with leather quite a bit out of her reach to see what would happen... Well, she loves it! She can't resist the challenge, and in 3 minutes had figured out to pull the leather as high up as she can, grab it with her foot, and pull again... She has pulled it up and is going wild with it! It made me laugh for a full 5 minutes watching her attack it, and when it rolled off and back down the first time it looked like she was going to leap off to get it I tried getting some pictures but she moves too fast...

Post edited by: jessdecutie18, at: 2010/02/01 06:14
14. That's great that Tobie can fly now I can't wait till Yoshi can. I used to have a Quaker parrot (Kiwi) and loved watching her zoom around my bedroom and down the stairs
15. Great pics Did you buy the foraging boxes or make them?
16. I've never had Pomegranite, and neither has Yoshi. I hear how messy it is, and I decided not to worry about getting that... but watching that video, pulling out the seeds doesn't look bad! Do they like the seeds most, or the actual fruit?
17. Yoshi likes sitting on my shoulder, and now that she is pretty good with potty training I don't mind... but I don't wear earrings at home either, they are just too tempting lol... Yoshi also used to be pretty wobbly on my shoulder, but now she has the hang of it. It just takes a little time
18. Every so often I see something more expensive I want to get her though... like I've been looking at a harness for outdoors and another playstand... So thinking about this question again... $60 in the minumum monthly pay... but sometimes it will go up higher if I invest in something more pricey
19. I'd say I spend $10 a week on Yoshi... initially I bought her and her cage and toys and food and playstand and everything for just under $2000 (yes, I spoil her) but now it is a new toy (I like to hand make them usually, because it's cheaper, or find sales at little local bird stores) about every other week... Every month I go get her new seed, treats (although she eats a lot of our food really, not that many treats 'just for her'), and Roudybush... which comes to about $30, especially if I throw a foot toy in there... So, as long as all goes good and no vet bills... after her initial big spend I now spend about $30 a month on weekly expenses like toys plus an additional $30 a month when I go get foods... She is like my monthly cell phone bill

Post edited by: jessdecutie18, at: 2010/01/28 16:11
20. Hello and welcome Yeppers, I love my grey (Yoshi) too! This forum is full of really friendly people who just wanna talk about greys, and I've gotten a lot of helpfull information here too What is you bird's name?
21. It sure was interesting! Thanks for sharing
22. Yoshi has been doing better with the screaming... for a little over a week she decided she was going to yell and yell every time she wasn't on my body, but I think Monday she started to realise that this just isn't going to work. I talk to her but I do not go get her while she is screaming... and it seems to be working. I tell her "When you are done being loud, I'll come get you!" and keep going about my business... Well, the screaming definatly hasn't stopped, but it has gotten better daily it seems She still hadn't been playing with her toys though, and yesterday while shopping I bought her yet another one, a colorful shredder as I know how much she likes shredders... and the weirdest thing... she didn't seem afraid of it at all, but then she is usually fine with new things in her cage because I change things up for her all the time. She glared at it for a moment, waddled over to pull a strand or two off of it... and then totally IGNORED it for the rest of the night and played with two other toys she barely usually touches that I had considered taking out... The introduction of a new toy made her want to play with her old toys? I can't make sense out of that but oh well, I'm happy
23. I can't look at this at work, so I have no idea what you guys are talking about lol...
