  1. This is a topic I would like to hear more on, so please keep us posted Kathy... I'm in the military and moving out and then back into the US is most likely going to happen in the next 10 years...

  3. If I was you, I'd put it there if she isn't freaking out, and then just leave her alone and give her time. Yoshi will check out anything in or around her cage, but likes to do so in her own time. I bet she will go check it out eventually
  4. How cool, congrats Give her a treat and lots of lovin
  5. So for the last five days, my husband and I have been flying around and doing a bunch of stuff, super busy, and our baby Yoshi had to spend her first 5 days away from us since we have gotten her! Well long story short, although I kept worrying, Yoshi got plenty spoiled while we were gone. The lady who took care of her (she has plenty of birds herself) gave her rice and pineapple and banana and broccoli, lol, and made her a couple of new toys for just while she was there. Yoshi seems happy as ever, and while a little wary of us for about 10 minutes, she is now her happy self and totally taking advantage of how much I miss her by rubbing the back of her head on my fingers for some long scratches... Now she is chilling on my shoulder with half a grape looking content
  6. When I was younger I had both a Parrakeet and a Quaker Parrot, and I had so much fun with them. Secretly though I always wanted a bigger bird that could talk better When I finally got settled in my own place with my husband, I decided to finally get my dream bird, and was all set to get a CAG... I hadn't even thought of getting the smaller Timneh, as I wanted a big bold bird. But Yoshi the Timneh melted my heart with her cuteness Not only is she a Timneh, she is also the smallest in that batch of babies  She hadn't started making sounds or words yet, when we knew a couple CAGs in another store her age that did... Yet we went to see her every weekend for a few weeks, and my husband even seemed to have fallen in love with her. We got to hand feed her whenever we visited the store, and we knew she was ours already... So she was soon brought to our forever home, and is an awesome pet, and even though she is small and very quiet, we couldn't have a better bird Plus, she still has a long life ahead of her, and plenty of time to learn to talk
  7. Awesome We live about 10 minutes away from the beach, and I keep wondering about buying a harness for Yoshi... just don't want to frustrate her with something uncomfy...
  8. Thanks for the description and the video! Will have to try that eventually with my Yoshi
  9. Oz sounds like a sweetie Hope all goes well, keep us informed!
  10. How did you begin teaching Earl to fetch? I'd like to teach Yoshi but I think she will just look at me like I'm stupid if I tell her to 'fetch' something
  11. How cool I'm trying to get Yoshi to do something like that, saying "Bang" and tilting her backwards... she is good for about 10 seconds then tries to climb back up and seems scared... guess it'll take time
  12. rbpittman wrote: I totally agree, I love my baby and her feathers and wouldn't want her any way but how she was intended to be The site is interesting though, although yeah the all red ones look too unnatural... Their faces are boring, where as a normal grey's face is so defined, from dark feathering to white and a dark beak.
  13. http://www.redafricangrey.com/ If You are interested this site explains and has a couple videos It says on the last page that they have them for sale and gives contact information... I wonder how much they sell those red babies for? Probably a lot, lol.
  14. A picture of an All Red African Grey... it looks so weird and unnatural... http://www.hancockhouse.com/products/product_images//BirSouDVD4-3.jpg
  15. Yoshi - Timneh - 6 and a half months

  17. If you are having to 'head-lock' your grey and getting 'numb to the bleeding' then you are putting too much stress on her. Take it slow... you keep saying about where she came from and that she needs to build trust, well for now start slow. Open the cage and give her praise if she decides to come out and step up onto your hand... Yoshi is totally lovable and acts as if she will never bite, but being on her back is something that genuinly scares her and she will latch onto your finger with everything she's got. I'm working with her on that, but these things take time (and lots of yummy treats! ) to overcome. I wish you luck!
  18. Yoshi Sex: Female 6 and a half months old Clipped unfortunately Never any plucking or feather mutilation. She actually takes very good care of them!
  19. I've never heard of such, and I doubt it is true. As far as I know, the only way to find out is by doing a DNA test.
  20. So yesterday night, Yoshi was playing with a toy on the side of her cage-top, slipped with the toy, and crashed into the side of a table and then the floor... I heard all the flapping and turned around in my chair to see her on the floor looking disoriented and then she ran to me (Mommy) to be rescued and for a big cuddle as I inspected her feathers... Luckily there aren't any feathers actually broken, just a little tatty... poor Yoshi! Of course she soon acted like nothing had happened, and went back to playing on her cage-top not long after Funny how we worry about our fids, I was so worried Yoshi had gone a broken her feathers in clumsiness...
  21. That's often true cf737 They are pretty happy and quick to forgive
  22. Well I hope that Conure is adopted soon, it sure deserves to be given a loving home...
