  1. We have a good system going here where everyone has his or her little sanctuary place where they are happy and safe in crates or cage in the same room. When we brought home our first bird, the cats wanted into their hard sided kennels to have peace from her. They have both passed in the three years of having Java. We got puppies this year and for a few months, they went into their crates and she was not allowed to torment them. Now just when it is quiet and settled, we are bringing home our second bird and will have to go slowly setting boundaries again. Every pet has special time one on one and they seem to know they have a safe place that is only theirs. None of them have been aggressive but they don't have any chances to be unsupervised either.
  2. I don't remember ever getting this excited at Christmas. This is one time that is sure to be a thrill every day, even with messes, even when it is hard, even when he gets moody. The only thing that has come close is preparing for the arrival of our children. Even then, I was aware that we would be together for some years and my job was to prepare them to leave for their place in the world. This is a moment in time as we start forever together.
  3. She really knows how to live life to the fullest doesn't she! Just look at that beautiful girl and the family she adores.
  4. Time for a renewal of spirit and nourishment of all your senses. Bring us back the joy and wonder of your experience. Have a fabulous time!
  5. Thanks to all of you for joining me on the countdown. I will be sure to get someone to take pictures and post them the very day Juno gets here. My husband has some nerve for "kidding" that I am too impatient to wait for my birthday presents... I have been waiting almost eleven months for this one from last December. And I have been waiting and preparing since July 11th for my little guy to be ready to come call me his mama. I am starting my nesting... getting sprouts started, freezing some nutritious treats and will soon be able to count the days to his arrival on one hand!
  6. There is no way for me to feel what you must have gone through. Just coming to look to see how things are going took a lot of preparation for any news. I am relieved that so far it is looking hopeful. I am so sorry you have been going through this Pat.
  7. Ours is seven hours away, one way. We have been able to see him about twice a month. Last time I was able to be with him about six hours over two days. It is always hard to leave and go home empty handed. He looks so grown up and his beak looks scary compared to the first time I saw him. He dissed my birdie bread and went into his sleepy tent and gave me the wave to go on home and come back when he's ready. LOL
  8. I am having some of the same jitters. Will he like me, will I be able to understand what he wants? I have some big shoes to fill from the haven he has had with his brothers with an experienced, caring and loving surrogate mom. There may be uncertainties, but when I read of the other caregivers on this forum, I know it is going to be better than we imagined.
  9. That is nice way to start your day, a bit of girl time quietly sipping tea.
  10. Here I was sitting all pleased with myself, Bailey's at the ready, for T..T. Then, I read Jill's email, started counting on my fingers for the time zone and heeeeyyy, I forgot to join you again this Thursday. My daughter surprised us with a mid week visit from college since she is feeling crummy and just needed a home cooked meal and TLC.
  11. I chose a grey for its sense of humor. Years ago in a pet store in Tulsa Oklahoma, all the birds were freely roaming, except for one "mean" grey in a cage. I was stunned to realize they had a cat wandering around the store with these precious birds. Only when odd noise came from the back did I go to discover, it wasn't a cat at all, but a handsome grey bird meowing. I laughed and said "You tricked me, you goofy bird". He hissed like a cat, then made the sound of cats fighting. I wish I could bo back in time and apologize for calling him goofy. Since then, I have been fascinated with African greys, reading more and getting more interested. They have just the right temperment for me to fit into the flock.
  12. Robin, Thanks for the update. Dr. Jose is certainly thorough and to call the other vet straight away to get a handle on what was done was admirable. You have come a long way already with Beau and to think he is getting a clear diagnosis and on the road to recovery is a blessing. Glad you are willing to go the extra mile for him, he needed you.
  13. We look forward to hearing lots of things about Gorgie. Glad you are moving right along in the process. Have you looked at cages and toys and stuff? It will be a lot easier to know what you need as you get to know Gorgie. Do you get to visit often?
  14. Judy that was a labor of love to take a long trip for a second opinion. While you didn't get answers it gave you something worse to consider with putting a collar on her. Bless her heart to have this habit that we can't seem to understand. I wish I could send you a magic hug to make it all better. Ah well, I have bad habits of my own that make my family think the same thing about me sometimes.
  15. She is adorable and so animated. She really is a good talker for being so young. She really loves the attention she is getting from you too. Thanks so much for posting.
  16. Dave, your webcam has been such a source of comfort, enjoyment and education to me. It feels like I am transported into a miracle in the making. I don't have more pics of Juno yet. Every time I visit, I can't take my eyes off him long enough to pick up the camera. I have been able to hold and touch him and will take pictures of him next week when he gets here though. Maybe I can get a photographer to come so I can just revel in his presence. Wow... next week. Omigoodness, I am getting an African Grey!
  17. The picture of him on his Swing is adorable... that would be a good featherish addition to your avatar. Fiti is just a precious cutie pie.
  18. It sounds like a match made in heaven. Congrats to your little girl finding you and getting home so quickly. I look forward to hearing all about the homecoming and about her life with you.
  19. I recall Emma's video, she does a realistic turkey and some other critters too. Can you put a pirate into the pot? Java meows and purrs, so a cat goes in too. I envision this pot to be like the poker jackpot and we are all winners.
  20. Pat, you are the best to your birds and while you can't foresee and prevent every danger, you quickly responded with all your might. My prayers are with you as you watch and wait.
  21. So Jill, it wasn't Harvey who had all the difficulties, it was you, LOL. Juno will be here in two T..T.s and two F.A.R.T.s When we celebrate his first homecoming anniversary, I know we will have plenty to laugh about. Thanks to all of you forum friends for being patient while I wait for my turn at the molting and moods and while I learn parrot negotiation techniques.
  22. She is such a lovely lady. Are her eyes red and yellow? Is her eye color in transition? I have never seen an Amazon before. She is captivating.
  23. In a year, I will look back on these posts and laugh at the silly things I worried about. Actually, I am laughing now at your photo Dan... somehow I had the impression you were taller. And yes, not only have I laughed at your pain, I made it a favorite so I can go back and read it again to laugh some more. Wow, Lyn, I really had forgotten to count, only eleven days? He will be here in a blink.
  24. Oh dear, Dan too. Maybe I already have that brain damage. It just dawned on me that I will be making Juno superstitious from the beginning, his vet appointment is Friday the 13th. Dan, I am not going to let Juno talk with Dayo considering that he pinches you on the back of the neck when you vex him, LOL. Isn't it interesting that I have laughed uproariously at him doing it to you, but I don't want to trade places with you on that one. LOL.
  25. Oops another word of encouragement slipped in there and I almost missed you luvparrots, thanks. This is all part of bringing them into our lives and it just is a little more intimidating to take him out on my own before we really have had time to get to know each other.
