I am sorry about what you and Charlie have been through. You have worked so hard and have been loving and caring in trying to figure out how to help him. My heart goes out to all of you involved in his young life. It is a small consolation to understand that it was through no cause on your part. My sincerest condolences and admiration for the effort you have expended to help your little guy.

Ummm Jill, nobody excluded that you could be totally loopy, that is why Harvey blushes more than the usual companion grey. LOL.
-
Ah the innocence of those tiny little chicks. Goes along with my Gonzo and Camilla watching. Thanks.

Congratulations on finding this forum to help you learn all there is involved with getting an intelligent companion and all the joys and responsibilities that come with it. It takes a while to read through the forum and it is worth it. Thankfully, as I have been waiting for three months for our chick to be weaned, I bought the cage, perches, play stand, toys and first aid kit a little at a time. Also, it gives you time to speak with a local avian vet to get estimates on well checkups, food recommendations and other considerations for your preparation and research. Thanks for joining us for the journey.

It is a balance of beauty and long lasting features that most of us are after. A beautiful toy may not have any greater benefit to the parrot, and the same for the cage beyond utilitarian features. Still, we all have birds for different reasons. Since ours are family members we want their environment to be clean and healthy first. When new people come in, they are the ones attracted to the bird cage and they interact and get involved because they were drawn in. My companion pets are not fashion accessories, but I still wanted a cage cover that matched my living room. LOL.... do the birds care, nope, that is for me and I freely admit it. LOL. I don't have stainless steel cages for my birds, but that is only because I want a wood burning oven built into the kitchen. I don't need that either and will probably not get one, but hey, it is fun to dream.

If there was any wondering about bringing Beau home, that picture with your son says it all. He is a beautiful little boy, and Beau is adorable as well.

I just measured our boing and the rope part is about 75 inches long (192 cm). We got it for a CAG. Our cage is similar in size to yours and it seems to take up quite a bit of room, so we are hanging it outside the cage for a play area.

Does he snitch a get-out-of-jail-free card to use later when he is in the cage? With a face like that, he could talk his way out of anything. Thanks, this was a great set of pictures for us.

What a relief, the forum was down, phew! My husband said that you were blocking me. LOL. I consoled myself that if it was down, I wasn't missing too much because no one else could post. Glad to see everyone again this morning though.

Yeah right Bernie, banging on the wall to turn it up. You made my day! So, when he stops banging, does it mean you killed him, or just put him in a catatonic state?

Dave, are you recording the video cam as it captures all this excitement in real time? I was watching last night and thought I saw a crack in the egg and then Camilla and Gonzo were much more active, coming and going but I didn't see the chick, just the empty shell when I got up this morning. It is spectacular to watch this pair diligently taking care of their nest. Thanks so much.

I'm surprised there was no bloodletting in this energetic exchange. Now, would you mind very much to set up the video camera, put skittles or something similar in the bag while Dayo still has the taste of forbidden fruit on his breath. Imagine the look on his face when he bites down and gets something he wasn't expecting this time. Thanks for sharing Dan.

I love to cook and really loved my non-stick pans. When I read about overheating dangers, I changed my range hood to vent outside, got one that automatically turns on the fan by thermostat. I use digital thermometers with probes that will sound an alarm before food reaches a boiling point to be sure I don't get distracted. Then, I read that the number one mistake isn't by the bird owner, but a guest. I thought about it some more. It wouldn't matter how dedicated and careful I am if someone else was coming in to take care of my pets etc. I lovingly packed up my t-fal and got a new set of stainless steel this week.

Possibly soon to be new grey owner
katana600 replied to harmar's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Welcome Harmar. It is good to see someone researching and looking into the aspects of living with a grey before holding the adorable little black-eyed baby. This forum is a lot to take in all at once, but it is invaluable to get experienced advice and lots of ideas for housing, feeding, socializing and keeping your companion safe and happy. It does take a deep commitment and dedication through the good times and bad as our lives take unexpected turns, but it is well worth it. Thanks for joining us for the adventure. -
Yoshi is curious and playful in his pictures. I like the little red specks of feathers dotted here and there. His little surprise box was a great idea and he spent some time figuring it out and getting his reward. Thanks for the pictures.

Dixie is adorable. You sure have a lot of trust, and so does she. I love the way her door opens way at the top like a little shelf.
-
Wow, he looks perky and his eyes are bright and full of mischief. Glad to have him on the mend. Good job.
-
Hooray for Harvey! Did Jill finally learn how to do the shower right? LOL. Good for sticking with it Jill, I bet you both felt great after the soaking.
-
So much adversity and still willing to dance and trust new people. He has the most beautiful expression in his eyes. He knows he is in a happy house.

A Parrot Tribute To Michael Jackson

Um.. Jill, your neighbors called and said you don't dance that well... and please close the blinds. But honey if you got it, shake it. -
That is because I have a "starter bird" and since there was little information for the poi, I read all the African Grey books and now she thinks she is one.

Ah, there is no place like home. Thanks for letting us know how your procedure was resolved. Now, keep that leg up, follow doctors orders and catch up with the forum posts. You deserve a little rest and relaxation. Good to have this behind you! Glad you are back.

Robin, he is gorgeous! I love that final close up picture. You are finding the best possible way to turn a potential tragedy into a fairy tale success story. He is just adorable. You have had a lot of happy changes in your life. Enjoy!

The waiting and wondering are officially over! So Sydney won't be laying eggs any time soon and you won't be painting his talons pink. Think of the time and nips you are conserving. LOL. We are looking forward to hearing lots of adventures about your boy.
