  1. These photos are superb, I just love how Koko is becoming solicitous and friendly to Mocha. After the toe bites earlier, Mocha is going to take a little longer to trust though. LOL. It is interesting that it looks like Mocha stands with three toes forward and one back, is that the way his feet look on a perch as well?
  2. I asked my vet about the Pretty Bird Natural Gold that my bird likes and he said it has all the nutrients and vitamins and he was glad they were making it. He does carry the Harrison's brand so that tells me he endorses it and I am willing to try different brands for variety. We do use a carrier in the car, wouldn't want to take a chance of losing the bird outside, in case of an accident or unforeseen situation.
  3. This is definitely a link to add to my favorites to look every time a laugh will brighten my day. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for sharing this milestone moment with us. Good for you Tyco! It took a year for our little poi to regrow the brutal cut she had, but she flies all over with confidence now. Tyco just opened a brand new world!
  5. Oh gosh, Bernie, you are right and I am wrong, the P.S. rule didn't make it to my brain. My apologies dear Bernie. This is going to be another fun thread.
  6. Okay, this thread is really drawing me in, I must take time this week to start at the beginning and join up with F.A.R.T., I thought it was local and you met at the pub and was wishing to join you. Last year for Christmas we gave my husband his own little margarita machine and an apron and told him he was now our little cabana boy. We usually only use it when we have a crowd, I'll bet it will make singles as well, how about if I start next Friday?
  7. Yesterday I had the notion to drive about five hundred miles round trip to a fabric warehouse in NC. Somehow driving ramps up the high voltage part, I try to set the cruise control and just enjoy the journey, but it seems that the slow lane sets the cruise control at 80mph. I did see the funniest thing. A truck towing a solid white fifth wheel trailer. Emblazoned on the sides in two foot high red letters: "Caution! Stay back 20 feet! Angry monkeys will throw feces!" I thought that would make a great bumper sticker to ward off tailgaters.
  8. I am voting to leave my grate in but it is because for our cage, the grate is separate from the paper tray. If the grate were left out, there is a gap that looks big enough for the parrot to get stuck, or a puppy to stick a nose up there to get a nip. I found a nifty tool in the grocery store in the tooth care section a brush for dentures. It was less than two dollars, plus it has a two prong head, works really well to clean grates, get between them and shortens my yuck factor... well that is unless someone visited with dentures and picked it up by mistake. Just kidding, it is WELL marked.
  9. Do female parrots drive Bernie? Good thing ours is a male. Probably the female parrot drivers are bad drivers because their little gnarly feet can't reach the pedals and they have to steer with their wings. That considered, they must be the supreme drivers 'cause I've never read of them having an accident in all my life.

    Eyes

Juno's eyes are round so far as I have seen him in short sessions. But now dog gone it Dan, I have been looking in the mirror every time my mood changes and darned if I don't think wicked thoughts when my eyes are schrinched a little bit.
  11. Apparently I have multiple personalities... when I was in school or going to a party, I was a pionus. I like to think of myself as a lovebird, but my favorite activities make me an African Grey, yet I dream of being an Amazon. LOL
  12. Harvey is such an astute fellow he said all he does is move a few things out of place, set you off on a dither and then he gets online and sends all those PMs to keep us laughing. What a sport that fellow Harvey. He worries me a bit, sounds like my husband, make a fuss to keep me busy so he can have quiet time to himself to watch football.
  13. Jill, I have heard the grey growl and all I can say is it sounded like a cross between a big angry dog and a tractor trailer jake brake with a thumping sort of sound. That said, if I said to my husband that the bird was sending me off to the looney bin, he would say "honey, you were well on the way without the parrot." And Judy, before we celebrate your healthy blood pressure, did the doc happen to say which teenager? That might make a difference. LOL. Just kidding, when you get a clean bill of health at checkup time, that is a reason for all of us to celebrate. When my doctor sees me and says he would like to see me get in better shape, I act surprised and say "round is a shape."
  14. My first thought was to think that we were being asked to spray away "troublesome" parrot behavior. Then, as I read your posts, I remembered that when my girls were in school and had tests coming up, we made them warm milk and told them it was "hot nog" and was meant to help them sleep, and they would go to bed early at the suggestion. Also, when I was learning about aromatherapy, there are natural oils that bring about relaxation and other desired effects without being considered medication. I chuckled when I thought about it... maybe the spray is meant to mellow out the stressed parrot owner so the natural exuberance of the bird doesn't affect them so negatively. LOL. I tried the "suggestion" method on my husband too, I told him the ylang-ylang oil would make him open his wallet in a hypnotic state and give me money with a smile. Still working on that suggestion. Seriously though, just like all the other things we are concerned about with candles, fumes etc. I would check with the vet before using any kind of new product.
  15. Nice home for Sachi. I liked the video showing how she furnished it with her favorite things. The way the acrylic covers over the dishes rotate into the cage is brilliant. I am glad you could get such a lovely home for her.
  16. Happy Anniversary to you! {Feel-good-00020114} Now you are one of the voices of experience to help us with new parrots coming in.
  17. Jill, sorry to tell you this... no.. wait thats a lie, I laughed. Harvey sent me a private message telling me to let the forum know he isn't the only one hormonal and "picking" at every little scratch. LOL. He is really chafed at that "idiot" reference and he said, it takes one to know one. LOL
  18. Oh lucky you to get a new computer! Like many of you, I have three missing keys. The one I miss the most is the shift key for my left hand. Java found a way to snatch off the little rubber piece and sometimes my finger feels a little sting. I haven't figured out whether it is a tiny shock or just heat from the metal backing. I have decided to go to the beauty shop supply to get an acrylic box to put the remotes in before Juno comes and I think I will get an acrylic cover to put over my keys when I walk away. I understand there is a cover you can get to put over the keys, it might keep a bird out for twenty extra seconds. I will see what I can find for an acrylic protective cover that I could flip up to the screen when I type.
  19. Lucky for me today I found little white cardboard "envelopes" for making little favors for weddings. They are food grade and less than a nickel, but I will be the one having fun finding what kind of little treats will make him smile for me. There was another folded design that looked like a flower when the tabs were interlocked, has anyone seen a pattern like that?
  20. When our female poicephalus started this wing dropping, mating, gurging act, I read that if they have long days and short nights and an abundance of food, they get the natural urge to mate. We changed her bedtime, made sure she is covered for twelve hours at a time, more like winter light conditions and it hasn't happened again. With a female, egg laying, even without a male fertilizing them could create serious problems.
  21. He does have a healthy shine, makes him look like he is glowing. That must mean he is happy with you! He is a beautiful boy.
  22. This is a great idea! I wonder if they would unfold it or just tear into it and shred it. It wouldn't really matter as long as it holds their attention for a while and stimulates their imaginations. It certainly has my imagination in overdrive. I like the design of the chinese take out containers, have made them from cloth for gift wrap, this could be the start of some imaginative foraging and playtime for ourselves... I mean, our greys.
  23. Hey... I know that guy! Now don't you worry your pretty little head about details, I'll explain it to your husband. LOL. I wonder sometimes if he can stand up straight yet.
  24. There are millions Jill, I just got added to the numbers. Just learned to play the game after almost thirty years of marriage, and it took a little bird who "needs" more toys to get me started.
  25. I think he is hiding his face 'cause you embarrassed him telling these tales. Over and over he shows you how to bite off those feather sheaths, he told me he thinks you are untrainable. As far as flying into the curtains, that is frustration after showing you exactly what you were supposed to do, instead you are fiddling with a camera and computer. Bah, he is going mad trying to train you. LOL
