Juno is vocalizing more. He chortles and makes quiet sounds when I approach him and he lifts his foot to show me he wants to come out. Today when he was on his tree, I went to the laundry room and he flew around a corner and though a doorway to come to me. He still wants no part of his big cage, I just put duplicate toys in there that he has in the small cage and put him in, leave the door open and let him come out when he wants. After about fifteen minutes out of the cage at a time to play, he starts letting me know he is looking for the safety of the smaller cage. The cages are side by side with the floor of each cage at an equal height. There is no hurry for him to move in, he will let me know when he is ready.

Has Tiggs had his tetanus? LOL Jill. Lucky for Tiggs it was a scratch and not a bite. Otherwise he would be licking the bottom of shoes to get the taste of Bernie out of his mouth.

Oh dear Dan, I thought that WAS your normal voice. Oops Just kidding. I didn't talk baby talk to my kids but it just isn't my character. Mainly I think our birds are like my husband... let it go in one ear and out the other unless there is strong emotion.

For the first time, I just realized how much sense it makes to move Juno's play stand across the room from his cage so he has the exercise of flying between them. Thanks! Ana Grey is a beauty and she flies like a veteran. I love that the dog doesn't even flinch at the incoming Ana Grey.

You know you are a little bird obsessed when... :P
katana600 replied to jessdecutie18's topic in The GREY Lounge
Uh oh, it seems like all the obsessions are rolled into one for me. Hopefully it is because Juno is so new and we waited so long. Yesterday I bought a pomegranite and fresh figs even though I have been thoroughly warned it will make a BIG mess. In a week, the toy cupboard is empty, he has three cages now and a mammoth tree. Please tell me this will fade in time and become more reasonable. -
Since evening is his best time, I bring him out for an extended play time. After Java goes to bed for the night and is covered in another room, I spread some small fleece blankets on the ottoman, grab a bucket of foot toys and bring Juno to my fleece covered lap so he can play close to me, on me, but not too close to be uncomfortable for him. He is getting braver, allows me to touch his toes, or his wing without much notice. He takes toys from my hands and we always end the session while we both still want more of it.

Would you just look at those little red tail feathers sprouting? Thanks for the update, sometimes lately the camera has been getting tipped over, LOL. I thought they were just getting wild in the nursery. I would just love to come visit the little darlings. Wouldn't it be great if they go to new homes and that person stays in touch with this forum to keep us updated as to watching them flourish.

Would you look at that, nothing but the fine crystal for that princess Alfie. She is just adorable and well worth it isn't she? No wonder I am not getting the rave reviews for Juno's grapes. What is the matter with me offering them in common crock? I do so look forward to sharing a moment like Alfie is having with the two of you. Thanks for the pictures Lyn, you are pretty good with that camera.

That is a beautiful tree stand. When Nilah and Talon show Rikki how much fun they are having without her, she will soon overcome her suspicion of the monster. Now I really want to go to that bird superstore.

I'm so sorry you are sick and have to be quarantined from Darwin. It won't last long and you will healthy enough to be back with her again. Take good care of yourself and try a few whistles or flock calls to tell her you are in there and okay. That seems to satisfy Java when I spend long days in the sewing room when it is too dangerous for her to play in there.

This is just too rich. And all I could think of was a plastic owl on a stick to keep mine down from the door frames and it means I have to get up every time. If my time comes to step up the door frame patrols, I will need to call your decorator. LOL. Now when I conjure up the idea of a dotty ole bird lady, it is going to have those frame protectors above my head. Thanks for the good chuckle. Good luck with socializing your flock.

Oh look at that picture and wonder how anyone would need to be bribed to be part of that. I look forward to the day my new grey will accept me that close. Thanks for the glimmer of hope that if I am patient and brave enough, that could be us. Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Good luck with the training of friends, the concept sure made me smile, thanks.

Oh no. My birds do love a couple varieties of this cooked food. I will be sure to buy one of each and figure out a recipe to make my own mix. Thanks for the notice Adina.

When they toss out the broccoli, tell them thank you... I will need this in the parrot pie recipe. LOL. Of course, my little angel is eating his broccoli... today anyway. LOL. My turn is coming though. It will give everyone time to hone that recipe so mine will turn out well.

Girls just gotta have fun! Thanks for showing Emma's wild and crazy side so we don't get a complex when our boys are rough and rowdy instead of telling us sweet little nothings in our ear. Emma is a well-rounded kind of gal.

It conjured up quite an image for the young techs who were outside the door making comments at the hospital too. The next indignity was to put me in a chicken incubator to dry the plaster for two days! It was a real galvanized steel incubator over the whole bed. When I had the second surgery, the doctor laughed. He said the pantaloon body cast was only indicated for uncooperative patients who won't stay in bed for six months. LOL... And he was RIGHT. Juno had his first shower at my house this morning. I would like to think he was spreading his wings to enjoy it, but he just didn't know where to go. No time like the presence to just step right up and do what is necessary so he thinks it is just part of daily life here. I am going to take him in every mornign and only spray him down good once a week, but he managed it well. His cage had a ray of sunshine on one side so he basked and flapped when he got back inside. So far, so good.

Kudos to our admin for recognizing talent, willingness to serve with dignity and... wait just a cotton pickin' minute, this is our Jill we are talking about. LOL. Jill is the kind of contributor who makes everyone come back for more. I will do my best to bow to her new authority... LOL. Thanks admin, this was a good choice.

Thanks for the concern, everyone is managing fine. Will have to think up something better to do for my weekend to top that. It is all because what I was doing before was cleaning, cooking and acclimating a new baby and maybe I just needed something so I could better appreciate the quiet routine of life.

This is a great thread for a laugh that keeps on giving. Thanks everybody.

Indeed what am I doing now, up at four in the morning? One daughter in college nine hundred miles away called to ask for insurance information after having an accident with a friend's vehicle. Thankfully no one was hurt. Then, at one am the other daughter called from her apt at college to get a ride to the emergency room for a foot injury. Stepped down wrong and tore some tendons, is casted, home and will see what tomorrow brings. But... since I was up, I'm dying to peek in at Juno and to resist the urge, came in here instead.

My dignity was gone long before children. After a water skiing accident, I was in traction 3 weeks, ended up in a body cast after surgery. They put me on a what looked like a rotisserie fork and then hung me by chains from the ceiling. After that business, everything else is pale in comparison. I had to get back online to say that after a long day and going to the vet and being poked, Juno was really happy to be home again. For the first time he sat on my lap for about ten minutes playing with foot toys! He does not welcome any touching, period. But, when I was carrying him from the kitchen after a weigh in, I forgot myself and kissed the top of his head like I do to Java. I'm not sure who was more surprised, him or me.

It sounds to me like the sound my instant message application makes when someone signs on or off. Do you have AIM on your computer?

The vet visit was a piece of cake... avicake. Juno was content for the most part, he took it all in stride. He came home and ate and is finally napping again. The wing is good, no sign of soreness. The vet thought he was a little underweight but considering weaning and transition that is expected. His weight was actually more this morning than when we brought him home. The vet was absolutely certain that he is a girl. He even insisted I put my finger where fingers should not go... feel how wide the pelvis is. Look, I didn't want to syringe feed, I thought it was intrusive, you want me to put a finger where?!! How about this, how about since you already have blood, run a second DNA if you like. Will let you know in a couple of weeks when I get all the test results. Otherwise, it was a very good outing.

Too much too soon on the big boy cage. Juno didn't eat or drink all day. He may have just been exhausted from all the changes in less than a week because he slept almost the whole day away. About ten last night, he became active and happy again, still didn't eat though. His play stand no longer looks like a natural element in the living room with all the hanging toys, but he played and played. I tried not to be overly concerned with his food, just kept offering him good things. At bedtime I put him back in the small cage and for an hour and a half this morning he has been munching away at his pellet assortment, drinking noisily and all is well in his world. I will let you know how the vet visit goes this morning.

It is so hard to feel helpless when our loved ones are suffering. I hope it helps just a little to know how many people are sending healing thoughts and support while you are getting through this. It is remarkable the things you have found to tend to him when it is so difficult to find veterinarian care and supplies. You are very resourceful and your grey is sure to be bonded to you for your caring, I am sure he knows you love him.
