Something may have caused him to feel like his personal boundaries were breached. We just got our boy yesterday and he does not want to be touched yet. Fiti may just be pulling back a little and watching to see how much he trusts you again. There is a good post on body language that describes how he might lower his head to elicit a scratch. If you give him some space he will come back to the cuddles and scratches. He is a beautiful bird and it is nice to see how much you both are enjoying and interacting with him. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/limitstart/20/training/109373-body-language-most-frequently-seen.html

Look at that Alfie go. She must have read the old forum post about a woman's place. Cleaning the place up and making herself presentable to her man. LOL. She has a right adventurous spirit and is always finding an amusing past time. Thanks for the pictures, she always makes my day.

How right you are, I woke up several times in the night and thought about checking him but didn't want to disrupt his rest. As soon as it was decent, I started his breakfast. Judy, as always your advice is spot on. I allowed Juno to lead the way for deciding when he was ready for any advances and by the end of the day he was flying and exploring very carefully but he has accepted that while I am no Ann, I am probably okay.. for now. LOL. Will see how today goes.

Thanks for all the best wishes and for all the encouragement. This is the best day! Cassandra, I am glad you like his name too. We were planning a big birthday celebration with a cruise to Alaska when I met Juno and asked to trade my cruise. I may not see Juneau Alaska this year, but will see Juno every day. Now, for all your enjoyment, I would like you to know, a friend sent me this tee shirt and I decided to wear it just for you so I could send you a picture with Juno and you will know that I read your forums, took your advice to heart and am fearlessly prepared for anything that comes. If you look on the upper left, you will see I also found a little sticker for my little stinker. It has a little hairy monster and says "I Bite!", for his travel cage, to keep out the curiousity seekers. He isn't a novelty, he's my boy.

Wow, this has been a day of highs and lows. Juno had an accident last week, hurt his wing and was x-rayed and fine, but hurting, dropping his wing, not talking or eating. His vet gave us the okay for the transition but said take it a day at a time and when I went this morning, I was pretty sure, but not positive he could come home. I could tell right away he was favoring his right wing, but since he had flown Friday night we all agreed it was time for him to come home. He has had a seven hour car ride, spent the night in a motel, gotten another hour and a half car ride and he came home very quiet and vigilant. He was like a statue for two hours. By mid afternoon, he had not eaten or moved and seemed stressed. The time was ticking to get him out by myself to give him medication and he still hadn't eaten. Then, as if he emerged from a deep sleep, he started eating everything, he has been playing, he stepped up, came out of his cage and has been flying from his cage to his toy and all is well. I just gave him some formula with his meds and tucked him quietly into bed and he is just a sweetheart.

She first said what she hears the most and longs to hear often. That is soooo sweet. Glad for you to be filled with this goodness. That is so special. We will be hearing a lot more from Sadie after this. Thanks for thinking of us during your celebrations.

I am so happy for you and your extended flock, family and coworkers that Chocolate has been such an attraction and is enjoyed by all. You are meant for each other.

Ah, the nervousness is over and he is settling in famously. I asked him to step up and he did. We are both a little shaky at it, but he came out, sat on me a little bit and flew back to his cage, so I helped him step up and get in. Then, he rested some more. Finally he has started drinking water, eating pellets, veggies and beans and is playing with his toys. Thanks for all your blessings and care. This is a joyous day and the tears run down my face that life is so good. Thank you everyone.

I must be all a twitter, I have tried to put his photo up three times and have something different I forget every time. By the time I figure it out, I will have a better shot. Ann and Tom left me feeling like family, only better. As if getting Juno wasn't enough they had gifts for me too. I should have packed a bigger bag to bring Juno's loot home. They gave him two weeks of two kinds of pellets, plus a weeks worth of sprouts and fresh food, plus formula and syringes to feed him at night during the transition. They gave him red palm oil, grapefruit seed extract and some beneficial bacteria powder supplement. They put new water and food dishes in his cage and gave him a new sleep tent. It feels like Christmas with this car load.

Home for two hours and he is still in the same spot. He is taking it all in and I am giving him some space and quiet.

At long last Juno is home. He has had a long trip from yesterday and an exciting day today. We have been home about a half hour and he is resting. Will get better pics when he is relaxed. He lets me hold him but is nervous so I am giving him space.

I am up early on a Saturday morning. In two years, I have not found it worthwhile to get up by six to watch my favorite quilt show, but I am up and dressed and ready to go. If having grandchildren is going to be any better than this, life is good.

Okay, I have lined his travel cage, packed a little welcome kit for him and put my camera in the bag to get first day pictures. Oh my goodness, this has been a long summer of waiting. It will be good to have him finally here... in just fourteen hours... but who is counting.

I got THE call! Juno is in town and within my grasp. His surrogate mom called to say they could come tonight late but if we wait until morning, it would be better for him to be settled from a long drive. So, tomorrow morning at 9 we are making the transition. As I looked at the nursery to post, it is up to one year of age and he is going to be halfway there in less than two weeks! We will have him home in the morning and will post his picture as soon as he is ready for it. This is for real, he is coming home.

Wow, that was inspirational, thanks so much Dan. I will have to go back to this site to read some more later but the videos were spectacular.

Yah Dutch, welcome to our new initiate. Bring on the celebrations. Glad the Harley is under tender loving care so you have time for the forum.

That Louie is a cute sweet little bird. It reminds me of the movie Paulie, the sweet little girlfriend bird of his. That is an interesting perch he is on too, it is as colorful as the sun conure. I've never seen one in person but they are lovely. Whenever I have heard of anyone who has one, they are good natured and pleasant too.

It is a relief to know her tests are all normal. If it is just a lingering habit, I wonder if there is any other kind of crunchy or brittle item that she might satisfy the same type of sensation externally than to chew the feather shaft? I guess I am thinking about it in people terms, you know like people who pop bubble wrap, or snap their gum? Since she is otherwise happy and healthy, you will figure something out.
-
Since she is new to your home and has likely been in a cage a long time, it is tempting to let her be free as much as possible. If you are studying with a goal of working, it would be good to consider how that change would affect her if she gets used to being out all the time. I like mine out of the cage as much as possible, but also to go in willingly when I am doing something where I might not supervise vigilantly. Each bird is individual about playing with toys etc. She may benefit from you playing and showing her what to do. Does she have a bell? They usually like something to make a noise and since her grip isn't so good, foot toys might make her lose balance. There are some really good hard plastic maze games and foraging toys to put treats into that might coax her to investigate.

It is hard to be annoyed with their antics when they are having such enjoyment at ours, LOL. I love the wicked little naughty laughs.
-
That is so cute, just one more reason to add to the flock. Soon they will carry on conversations while you sit on the sidelines as their adoring audience.
-
I am surprised Harvey lets you have a drink once he puts his mark on the bottle, it looks like he is claiming it. I had to buy a locking sippy cup to have my Baileys because a little dog tried to help himself. I suppose Juno's job will be to learn to unlock it for the boys.
-
She does sound adorable. She is working the honeymoon period surely enough. Those noises tell a tale. When my bird finally gets here, I will be sure to chastise my husband every time I "hear" one so if anyone else visits they will blame all the bad stuff on him. It really makes you think about what you say once these little charmers come into our lives. Glad your Chocolate is the sweetest kind.
-
He is great company and a scintillating conversationalist, LOL. Glad to see how much you are enjoying this delightful boy. If you can get him to work to pay his own vet bills, that might start a trend. Thanks for the videos.

The next two days are going to be long and drawn out, so I invited a friend over for a pajama party quilt-a-thon. Will keep our hands busy and make the time fly by and our not-so-little guy will be here. Thanks for helping me keep a vigil of patience. Soon, very soon.
