  1. I don't cover Biscotti's cage at night. His breeder never covers, so I never started. I figured if for any reason I had to be away & would not be able to cover & uncover him it would really upset him. Biscotti & I are both early to bed early to rise peeps. I am usually up between 5:30-6:00 am, if for some reason I sleep past 6, I will hear Biscotti softly talking in his cage. I love to hear his little voice first thing in the morning! So, this works well for both of us!!
  2. Thank you all for sharing in Biscottis' first birthday. Today, just in time for his special day, I received my copy of Conversations With Cosmo. So I have started reading it to Biscotti as an extra birthday treat!
  3. Today June 1, 2010 is Biscottis' first birthday!! He has become such a charming confident chatterbox, I can't imagine life without him! He will be celebrating with special treats & birdy packages. Many happy returns my dear feathered friend!
  4. I started visiting my babies clutch ( just 2 ) when they were only a couple weeks old & then every couple weeks after that until I picked mine. Well, I was actually leaning toward the other baby at first but after about 3 visits it became obvious that Biscotti wanted to be my bird! He would come & hang around me & play with me the whole time I was there so he was the one I picked. The other one was also a beautiful healthy bird, just more independent when I was there visiting. Biscotti is still very much attached to me & I am so glad he chose to be my bird! Like Judygram said, sometimes you get to choose ( or be chosen & sometimes there really is no choice. With love & preparation you will have a wonderful companion either way!
  5. Love your pictures!! Lucky bird to get invited on family outings! Thanks for sharing these, they are wonderful.
  6. Argyle is such a cutie!! Such a sweet sound he makes! The video is great, love the close-ups!
  7. Beautiful!! It is so wonderful to see our grey's actively participating in our lives!! What does Alfie think of the horses? Thank you for sharing this wonderful story!
  8. That's so sweet!! She will be saying all sorts of things soon! Thanks for sharing.
  9. I have noticed this too, sometimes they actually feel hot! Most the time just warm. That's good, nothing worse than cold feet!
  10. Thank you! They are a bunch of pretty spoiled pets around here!
  11. About once a week I make a big pot of homemade dog food for my older dog that has liver disease. Biscotti is never allowed out when I am cooking anything on the stove. Long after it was done cooking & chilled down I was preparing to scoop it into plastic containers to freeze & Biscotti decided he had to check it out. He must have thought - Wow!! Now there's a lifetime supply of birdy mash! Of course he had to sample it and he liked it ! Silly boy now he barks & eats dog food!
  12. Great video!! And the perfect song to go with it. Thanks for sharing this.
  13. Thanks Dan for sharing all this great info... I think a mosquito net over his cage at night would at least give me some piece of mind. Like you said, the rouge one that gets in the house generally goes for the big red blooded human, usually when you get into bed. bzzzzzz..........
  14. I also live in the San Joaquin valley & I am very concerned with keeping the mosquitos away from Biscotti. How to you guard against the rouge mosquito that occasionaly get into the house? We have been vaccinating the horses for several years now, I wonder if there will ever be a vaccine for people & other species. We have tons of magpies, crows, jays etc... & the abatement people collect the dead ones for testing. This is a very rural area with lots of irrigating during the warm months, so lots of mosquito breeding grounds. This is a great worry & very disturbing to think about.
  15. I really enjoyed your post & pic's, my Biscotti will soon be 1 yr old & I feel exactly as you do. Having him in my life has been such a blessing, and the few small sacrifices we make to keep our feathered friends happy & healthy are nothing in comparison to all the joy we gain by having them in our lives. Happy 6 mo. b-day Issac!
  16. Great video!! I love the head bob thing, maybe he has a favorite song in his head & he's just chillin with the music!
  17. Oh my, may have to start calling him "Scout"! Glad to see him "being Spock", he must be feeling good & that's all that matters!
  18. This is very interesting. There is so much more to these "birdy brains" than we realize. Thanks for sharing this!!
  19. I'm glad you all enjoyed the pics! I am blessed to have such lovely creatures in my backyard!
  20. The Killdeer have been busy building nests in my driveway, their eggs look like rocks- so I assume they like the gravel driveway to "hide" their nests. They are a common bird out here on west coast, not sure where else they may live so I have attached a pic of an adult. They are one of the birds who plays hurt to distract predators from their nest site. They also have precocious hatchlings, who come out running - like chickens & ducks. The babies are VERY cute! The adults have a very distinct bee-bee-bee type call. Well, Biscotti is copying their calls perfectly so now I have a killdeer in the house!! They must be pretty smart little birds, notice in the one pic how they put the nest directly under the barb-wire fence. Nothing is going to step on or run over that nest!!
  21. I love your pictures!! It is so wonderful to see the pets actually sharing in our lives & not living "on the sidelines". How lucky you all are.
  22. OH, this is too funny!! I actually did LOL!! She is just too sweet.
  23. OMG!! That is just too cute!! And how he responds to your voice is so sweet. Thanks for sharing!!
  24. Thank you both so much!! I am relieved, he seems so fine but didn't want to be ignoring something that could indicate a problem.
  25. How fun!! Nice that they have "birdy" events to go to. Wish there was something like that fairly close to me, guess that's one of the negatives of living in "the boonies"!
