Thanks for the nice comments guys!! I am really learning to look at "junk" differently. Besides bringing me such much joy, Biscotti has got me thinking "outside the box".

Here is a picture of a portable T-stand I made for Biscotti out of an old office chair base. The round "poop catch" tray is a very large plant saucer. It is not quite finished, I am going to add a toy hanger to it.

Post edited by: chelseaB, at: 2010/02/07 16:50

Hi pat, I rotate dog/bird like you do. I just can't take a chance with Biscotti being hurt by a dog. Things can go wrong so fast. I have a large dog, so don't know if grey owners with smaller dogs allow birds to be free around them. It just scares me too much!

Congratulations! You will be so excited anticipating the day you get to bring your baby home. The first time I went to see my baby Biscotti he was about 2 weeks old. It is so wonderful to watch them grow knowing that one of them will be yours! Keep us posted!

That is so cool!! That is my greys first sentence also! His is just "what are you doing?". How old is Ragga? My Biscotti was 7 mo. on Jan 1st. Congratulations, I know how excited you are!

Can people recommend books before getting a gray
chelseaB replied to camsa10a's topic in The GREY Lounge
Hi Mike , welcome! I am new to greys also, I have had my baby about 4 1/2 mo. now. The book Dan recommended, For the Love of Greys is absolutley wonderful! You must read that. Also a subscription to Bird Talk & Good Bird, Inc. will give you lots of useful info. Also reading the forum here is invaluable, everyone is so willing to help with any question. They are a wonderful group! Good luck aquiring your new grey, it is a wonderful thing! Karma to you for planning ahead. -
Biscotti was 7 mo old on Jan 1st, & he is saying his first words!! It is not the hello, good boy or hi! that I thought would be the first thing he would learn. It is a sentence! He says "What are you doing?" I guess he picked this up because I say it to him whenever he is out of his cage & gets out of my sight. So now he says it to me when he is IN his cage & can't see me!! He has been saying it for about 3 weeks now & sometimes shortens it to "What you doing?" I love it!!

I have a Redmon digital bird scale for Biscotti. I like the perch it came with, 3 different size dowels, so birds of different sizes can be comfortable on it.

Yes, they are a fruit & I am fortunate to have a neighbor with a tree & shares them with me! They are tree ripened & organic ( the Hachiya variety ) & we both love them. They also make wonderful cookies!

Hi, I'm a new grey owner also, my Biscotti is also just 6 mo. & he does exactly what your bird is doing. The first few times I heard him do this I thought he had gotten hung up on a toy or something, but no he was just playing "jungle bird"- man what a noise!! Now I'm used to what he does at different times of the day, he is most active in the morning, playing & jabbering till he comes out to fly around & make alot of noise, then about 1:30 in the afternoon he spends a good hour or so with talking (trying) & sound effects session. Evenings he is quietest & plays on his stands & watches TV till bedtime. Yours probably has his own routine that is completely normal for him. They are such characters!! Enjoy!

Biscotti has discovered that persimmons are very yummy! He literally was up to his eye balls enjoying! Of course he emerged with a lovely orange face that he proceded to wipe all over everything. Got to love him!

It's great to hear that everything went well & everybody had a good time! I have not left Biscotti for an overnight trip yet & am a little apprehensive to trust someone else with his care. It's wonderful Yoshi's breeder will board him for you in a familier environment!

That is very intresting!! I have never heard of that type of melon. Where did you find it? Do you live in the US? I would like to get one for Biscotti & see what he thinks!

Biscotti also just turned 6 mo. & he is a whistling lunatic too! I have never heard so many wolf whistles in my life!! Ha, ha I too am trying not to respond with anything but words and have been doing pretty good. I cannot believe the range of sounds that come from one sweet little bird!! I love to hear him regardless of what comes out, I think I hear an occasional gravely sounding "hello" & "good boy!", but it may just be my imagination. LOL.

Thanks everyone!! I used the directions off the www.cheepparrottoysntips.com website & modified it a little. I used 3/4" tubing instead of the 1/2" in the directions. It really was not hard to make at all! That website has tons of ideas!!

Thanks for the nice comments!! Biscotti just turned 6 mo. & he actually enjoys having things draped over him, I always cuddle him in a towel after his shower & he loves it!!

Here's a pic of Biscotti trying out his new "cage cozy". Next thing you know he'll be wanting a good cigar! http://www.greyforums.net/components/com_joomlaboard/emoticons/tongue.png

Here it is on one of his t-stands, he is much more comfortable with it now & I will be hanging it up for him soon!

Here is Biscotti checking out the orbit I made him. He is still a little unsure, so it is actually upside down, & stuck in the couch so it wont move.

Biscotti turned 6 mo. on Dec. 1st, so of course I went to Petco I bought him $40 dollars worth of cool parrot toys. I also stopped at the local thrift store to look for books & stuff I could use to make birdy toys. Well, I found this really neat huge box of colossal Tinker Toys so I brought that home too. I guess you all know what Biscotti was most impressed with! He gave the parrot toys a wary look & flew right over & landed on the Tinker Toy box. These Tinker toys are really neat, most have holes so they can be strung with other stuff for hanging toys, or just used as foot toys. They are a tough plastic so can be thrown in the dishwasher. Guess for his 1st birthday I'll just go shopping at the thrift store!

Great pictures!! You guys must really be "early birds" to have the whole gym to yourselves!!
-
Great pictures!! I love how they really "get into" food they like. Biscotti likes to use me for a napkin when his face looks like that!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have a friend who raises sweet potatos & he always keeps me well stocked! This sounds like the birds will love it & so healthy.
