Oh, since my last post in this topic Harvey and I have done 20 laps of the house. I was sitting reading and he was on his java tree - he flew at me, sat on my knee and as soon as I went to stroke him - he bit me (hard). Therefore I decided to remove him to his cage for some time out. Impossible - off he went - even now taking refuge on top of a picture I have in the hall. It took me 12 minutes to get him in his cage - I even walked away from him and took my own "time out" because by the end of it I was so frustrated. Then, all of a sudden, it's like the switch is flicked and he'll step up. I think I've created a monster.....!

I lurked for AGES! I'd never, ever joined a forum before (I don't have Facebook, Beebo, Myspace or any other networking thingyme either) and I thought it just "wasn't my thing". When I decided to take the plunge and purchase a CAG I knew I had to join! I had done all of the reading, but had my own personal questions to ask - and everyone here was so friendly in their responses. So - if you think this "isn't your bag" - just like I did - then don't be intimidated or put off. The only reason you think we all know each other is because we all started exactly where you are - lurkers! Come and join us - get to know us - it's a great little family

Ah, poor Willow - sorry to hear that she's found joy in her tail feathers The rest - I totally agree with - karma for you to your insight into your first year with your babies

When Harvey was 5 months old I posted on the "How Much Does you CAG weigh" that Harvey was 475g. By the time he was 8 months old he weighed 430g. He now weighs a steady 450g. He's so active though and is rarely sitting still - he follows us everywhere and therefore gets a good deal of "flight time". I weigh him every week - just to make sure he's maintaining his rough baseline.

Thanks for your replies ~ and indeed I remember our chat about Alfie well Lyn ~ and Harvey puts me entirely to mind of that! Actually - it's not just if he thinks he's going back to his cage, it's anytime he doesn't want to be removed from where he wants to be (top of the stairs on the banister is another favourite - and he has never flown down, so would quite happily sit up there and chew chunks from the wood)! Treats don't work - he's cute to those too! Sometimes I think these animals are just too bloody clever for their own good! I'm going to try all of your suggestions - but I might be posting next week for a good recipe for parrot pie!

Over the last few weeks my once sweet, loving, caring grey has decided he'd like to reach the "terrible twos" earlier than anyone else (he's 15 months). He knows when he is going to be taken to his cage - so bites (and means it). I did overcome this by using the spare perch from the cage, which he obliged and stepped up onto - but now he won't do that either - and if I do get him onto it, he flies off. I can't hold his back when he's on the perch to stop him flying - he turns and bites me! Is this a passing phase or is there something I can do to stop him from doing this? When we go on holiday in July he will have to stay in his cage for the full two weeks - because there is no way I think my parents should have to put up with this (which may lead to plucking etc). HELP!!!!

Come on Dee ~ I'm awaiting photography. Until I see proof of Kopi, I tend not to believe you Hope everything went well through the night ~ and I hope you are giving Kopi lots and lots of kisses

There are a lot of people who suffer from this - and who immediately have to give their birds up. It's not poor hygiene - we, if sensitive, could get it from our birds - the sensitivity can be triggered via the dander too. This is a really severe case, in that the girl needs a transplant - usually it can be controlled by steroids alone. Another thing this highlights is SIGN UP TO THE TRANSPLANT REGISTER!!!

The Queen would never pop to the local shop with her hair in rollers.

3. Definitely confront them - I would like to think anyway that I choose my friends wisely and wouldn't be put in this situation anyway! You are at the ATM - you ask for £20/$20 but 1000 comes out - do you: 1. Pocket it and spend it. 2. Take it into the bank and fess up. 3. Feel guilty after taking it and give it to charity.

Oh Dee ~ you are worrying for nothing! That house of yours has been ready for a grey for months and months now ~ in fact - Harvey has had his bags packed for months now awaiting your call Kopi is one lucky little chappie and he'll sharp find out why - GET THE CAMERA OUT!!!

Very Silly ~ Just a bit of fun! http://www.youthink.com/quiz.cfm?action=go_detail&sub_action=take&obj_id=868 I'm a parrotlet!

She is absolutely gorgeous Dave ~ she's such a sweetie! I was laughing at the dog just milling around under the stand and around the cages - obviously very at home with your flock!!

Can I choose the Cuban Amazon Parrot? I stake claim to this as I've seen it in the wild. Anyone else who wants to showcase this can meet me at a point agreeable to both and we'll have a handbag bash!

Well done for taking on this older grey ~ karma to you for caring! As the others have said - there are so many success stores for plucked birds on here and with you care, love and attention I am sure you will get great results too ~ can't wait to see some pictures - and what's he called

Hey Robin - Dixie's clever, but not that good - I'm sure calender reading isn't a strong point Happy Hatchday Dixie ~ make sure you get spoiled (if you can any more)!!! Double celebrations - Dad fine (check) and Dixie's hatchday (check)! Good times

Great pictures of your little cannibalistic wonder there Jay! Harvey too loves his chicken bones - peace perfect peace in our house when he gets one!

Yip! Fully agree ~ I don't think we appreciate when we are clicking all over here on our forum what goes into the preparation and upkeep. It's a total non-profit, non payment run forum and I think this is something we tend to easily forget. A quick peek at our "competitors" perhaps will tell you in adverts around the outside how to "get rid of that extra belly fat" or "the secret success of how I made a million" - which sometimes distracts from our passion - our parrots! Thank you so much to the people who readily beaver away to make this the top searched grey forum on the net (well, it is on google from the UK anyway )

Ah, Salsa is gorgeous! Harvey would never lie on his back! I love the way that Salsa is squiggling around! Thanks for sharing this video x

It's a beautiful video Lyn - but also shows what terrible time our wildlife has had over the really harsh winter we've had. For a robin, especially, to come to your hand it is obviously so desperate for the tasty treats on offer. Just watch out next time for the seagull

It must have been so hungry to invade a garden - especially when you say food is plentiful in the area. All I can say Dan - you must have a hell of a sized garden for one of those to come in and not feel intimidated! I suppose a good sized Koi would be a tasty meal for a bird that size. I know that we are troubled by heron here in the UK - and they are known for "pond dipping" and many people have "decoy herons" (plastic ones) at the side of their ponds to ward others away. I hope that little fishy survives ~ but I must say - the egret is a beautiful bird

That's brilliant Julie ~ well done! You're becoming quite the poet Laureate! God - a year doesn't half fly by does it! Karma for such a brill forum tribute
