  1. Hee Hee Hee! What are you like! Like the rest of your family I have been sitting here tapping my fingers awaiting "number 3s" arrival! That cupboard of yours will be getting some use (and I'm sure there's more been added to it)! You're a star Dee - you know what I think anyway - so I'm not going to go on and on! Can't wait to see some pictures of Kopi ~ get that camera clicking
  2. My heart is heavy as I read this Jay & Maggie - I hoped for good news when I had heard nothing. I am willing Spock so much to do well - come on Spock, I'm not normally someone who accepts disappointment - so you don't be the one to let me down

  4. Too late Dave - it is now Saturday morning when I am reading this and the dust sheets are down, the dining room emptied and the paint machine poised. Next time, please be a little quicker in your response
  5. Harvey loves his chicken bones - and Stephen they are quite safe for greys - they pull the bones apart and eat the marrow! Another little bit of peace in my household - here's a picture of Harvey in the summer enjoying one: Go for it - Yoshi may love it the way Harvey does!
  6. Thanks for the info chaps - I do have a good fan in the garage - great tip Dave. I'll also make sure the door stays shut Jay - and I'll put a blanket at the bottom, just to be on the safe side. Actually - it's not really the answer I wanted - I really would have preferred "in the lifetime of African Grey ownership it is AGAINST THE LAW to decorate"! Shucks - I'll have to get the dust sheets out now!
  7. ......and who takes who drives to the psychiatrist! I take my hats off entirely to anyone who has more than one - BUT 19!!!! No wonder poor Jay has to clear those sinuses!! The dander in your house must be immense! The bottom line should have read though.....and they are lucky to have the smashing, wonderful, loving parronts we have. Thank you so much for sharing your day with us - mine is like a walk in the park on a sunny day in comparison

  9. For those of you who are new and don't know - I am the unoffical Aviator Harness Pom Pom Girl! I had a trial and a tribulation getting the harness on last year (quick recap - I nearly needed therapy) but then after that - hey - he was the guy about town! Well, obviously here in the UK it's too cold for penguins to go out (let alone tropical parrots) so stupidly the harness hasn't been used for months! I have just tried to get it near him, never mind on him! Back to square one! I am so demoralised - and what you must remember - he's 15 months old now - not that sweet youngster he was - he bites! So, moral of the story is - if you train your bird to use a harness - keep it up - even if it's just in the house!!! I will try again - but it's such a shame - he was hardly in the house last summer.....!
  10. The time has come to start decorating again! I live in a new build house so I have lovely smooth plastered walls that all they need is a nice new lick of paint! Here lies my question! I will (obviously) move Harvey's cage into the living room and close the door whilst I am painting and will leave him in there for the night - but when I move his cage back he will be only a closed door away from the dining room (Harvey's cage is sited in the hall, just outside the dining room door). How long do you think until I can open the dining room door? Just until the smell goes? I can't buy odourless paint as I have one of those Dulux paint pods - and they only take the paint for the machine (I love my birdie - but I also like the easier ways in life)!!! What do you think?
  11. Ah! That's a great shot Julie! I'm sorry - but he looks like butter wouldn't melt and not the tyrant that you portray him as! My mam's dog does the same - moves round the living room to follow the sun! Argyle's a proper cutie
  12. Ha Ha Jill - but what you don't realise is - that's me and Julie putting the jumpers on the chickens!
  13. My grey can bite my husband better than yours (and please feel free to send yours to prove me wrong)!!!
  14. Just think of it you chicken eaters.......!!!
  15. Harvey only gets his full quota on a weekend. He is ALWAYS covered at 9pm - but he is in the hall in my home and we close all the doors and he is covered and it is dark and quiet too. Greys don't sleep unless there is complete silence - a TV being on or movement will keep them awake (even if covered). In the wild they will only sleep when it is silent (it's a predator thing). Harvey gets woken up at 06.00am when I come downstairs - or he wouldn't get fed! On the flipside - he is a much nicer bird on the weekend when he's had his full 10 - 12 hours!!
  16. I thought it was 1 April already - but hey, no! http://web.orange.co.uk/article/music/Broody_hen_adopts_puppies
  17. I would go and find a salesperson and fess us - I'm such a wuss! You reverse your car in an almost empty car park into one of the only cars there do you: A. Leave a note for the owner giving your details. B. Foot to the floor and leave.
  18. My grey can splat the TV with bean mix from long distance better than your grey.
  19. Stephen - STOP WORRYING!!! You spend loads of time with Isaac and he is lucky you do so! You haven't had him long and you haven't been a member of our family long - but from your posts about Isaac it is clear to see what a great parront you are! We all worry about how long we spend away from our fids - I've been to a DIY store on the way home from work and felt guilty it was an extra 1.5 hours after I normally come in - but not as guilty as I did in the early days I don't live alone - but everyone is out at the same time and in roughly the same time - so Harvey is on his own from 07.00 until 16.30 - and he is a happy, well socialised bird - he plays around his cage all day and chews things - evidenced by the shards of wood I find each day! Keep going as you are doing - you're doing a great job
  20. Jess - as Julie mentions, Harvey is a mute!!! Harvey is 15 months and other than a mumble of "hello" says nothing! He is the best mimic ever - but isn't forthcoming with the chat! He's doing blackbird song, microwave, oven, telephone etc - but won't talk! Well, I'm sure he finds it hard to fit in a word anyway! If he doesn't talk - he doesn't talk - something that I'll just accept
  21. Kevin, Harvey is also 15 months old and at the minute is an absolute nightmare! He, over the last two weeks, now 50% of the time refuses to step up and goes into attack mode if I am trying to remove him from where he wants to be. I too put him in his cage - I just calmly go and get a spare perch from his cage, he steps onto that (reluctantly) and I guard him from flying away as I carry him to his cage. I ask him "what do you want to bite me for - this is what happens when you aren't nice" and put him in his cage. I walk into another room and leave him for 3 - 5 minutes and then return - ask him if he's going to be good, and let him out again. I'm finding this is working - and when I let him out again he is sweetness and light! Thanks for the heads up about the terrible twos Dan ~ I am so looking forward to it........
  22. Joy is hearing Harvey whistle EXACTLY the same tune my cockatiel Spiky used to whistle for the first time tonight!! YAY!!!
  23. What great photos and videos ~ he is just so shiny and beautiful ~ thanks for sharing
  24. Hilarious! I love that one!!! Take a look......say what you see!! I used to love Catchphrase!!!
  25. Ha ha ha ha! You dozy git!
