  1. What a great recipe! Thanks for sharing this ~ I may even have a try myself!!!
  2. Sentiments from me echoed. I extend my thanks and love to all the boys and girls from our allies that defend our nations. Wishing Will a very speedy and safe recovery. Thank you for sharing this Jay & Maggie - you must be so, so proud.
  3. Great toy and video ~ what a wuss though! Three months to accept her new toy! Harvey would have ripped it apart in three minutes!! Emma is just so sweet - and never bothered by the camera ~ thanks for sharing this - she is absolutely gorgeous
  4. Ooh! Great topic ~ karma as promised Janet x I live in the County of Northumberland in the North Eastern corner of England. This is our official visitor's site: http://www.visitnorthumberland.com/site/attractions Now, my nearest city (Newcastle upon Tyne) is 12 miles away from my house. We are often described as the "party capital of England" - with nightlife in abundance! I also have both the biggest town centre and out of town shopping centres in Europe! I could go on all day! Just google both!!! B)
  5. Thanks for this! I have none other than Harvey (as I would need to enter counselling)! Karma to you for starting this - come on, let us all know about your pets
  6. danmcq wrote: So, after his latest biting mission......He's just flown from the top of the door where he was preening (behind me), landed on my head (which I don't allow), and when I moved my hand up towards him he bit me (incredibly hard). I have just removed him to his cage (receiving numerous bites) for a slight time out session, whilst thinking of those frozen chickens. I have just realised that Harvey isn't stupid. He knows that I am vegetarian and wouldn't be thinking about chickens Seriously though - the biting session has just happened. I am at my wits end by his change in behaviour - which is very sudden
  7. JungleDreamz wrote: Harvey's 15 months - so a good three months on from Calypso. I've been repeating the way I say "Howay" and perhaps I actually do sound as high pitched and squawky as Harvey is depicting! I might leave judgement until a "real" word comes out though
  8. Power outs, trees falling - it's like the Wizard of Oz (please excuse me, I'm from the UK, nothing exciting happens here)!!!! Glad your problems of heat source for Jacques are remedied - that's why we all rely on our dads
  9. Ah, she just wants to be close Brittany! How cute! I couldn't run the risk - a bath is a luxury with two kids, a full time job and a parrot, so when I do indulge it's full of bubbles, oil, candles - oh and a glass of wine! Harvey would head dive into the bubbles and then drink my wine - I'm not sharing (the wine that is)!!! I shan't ask for photographic proof though from you
  10. My little old room is a bit quiet and I'd like some visitors (and some new friends)!! All the other mods seem to be offering free gifts to join their room ~ so, not to be out done.....! Come and start a topic about something, nothing to do with parrots ~ share your life, share your dreams, share your ideas - and I'll give five karma to each topic started!
  11. Great news! I am so glad you have reconsidered your living plans to accommodate your baby (which you must do above all else)! But, if that balcony in the Middle East is still going spare.......well, it's pretty cold here in the UK - I could do with some warmth myself  Keep us updated how things go.
  12. Pleased to see you back - glad everything is fine and looking forward to seeing some new pictures of Abby and an update of how she is getting on.
  13. crossfit wrote: Ha Ha! Very good!!! When Harvey bites me it can be from anywhere in the house - top of a door in the bedroom, windowsill - it's not just when I'm taking him back to his cage - it's when I remove him from anywhere he doesn't want to be removed from. He is so stubborn - I just don't know where he gets it from I'm going to try and move him around, just for the hell of it, with no intention of taking or putting him anywhere and see what happens - thanks for that advice Jay. Also, the ESP - I'm up for trying anything and I will stop thinking about parrot pie etc and think nice things! I'll report back soon. Thanks again everyone
  14. Ha Ha Ha! Sorry Janet - but it would be # 2 all the way - bag the TV for myself!! You work in an office and open some mail addressed to your boss which insinuates they are involved in an office affair do you: 1. Put the mail in their in tray and let them decide what to do. 2. Go see them and show them what you have opened. 3. Put it through the confidential shredder and pretend it never existed.
  15. My grey can unpick the slats from vertical blinds and drop them to the floor better than your grey!
  16. Great video - Sunshine is such a baby! I can't believe that any bird will let you play around with them like that. Thanks for this - Sunshine is beautiful
  17. That is unbelievable! What a clever birdie Salsa is! Brilliant video Jay - karma to your clever Salsa! Thanks for sharing x
  18. As some of you know - I have a mute African Grey! Whilst the rest of the world chats away - Harvey chooses to speak when there is nobody in the house to hear him (this is the conclusion I have come to)! Now, today, he has stood on his cage and repeatedly said in a rather high pitched, squawky voice "Howay". Now - I would guess most of you are thinking "that's not talking" - but here is the geography lesson I live in a part of the world called the North East of England - and from my area the classification of people are called "Geordies". "Howay" is a term colloquial to my area which translates roughly as "come on". So, obviously, when asking Harvey to step up, it is followed by "Howay" (pronounced Ha way)! I am 100% sure he is saying it - but my husband is convinced he's just squawking! Could he be remonstrating in a voice that he's made up himself? Either way, I'm beginning to think that I shouldn't change his name to Dumbo
  19. danmcq wrote: You are so right Dan! He is so sweet 99.9% of the time - it's just that fraction when he's not! When I was making dinner tonight he was quite happily sitting on top of his cage (just outside the kitchen door). I had the door propped open whilst I chopped the veg etc. Once I started cooking he decided to fly in - which I think you will all agree isn't safe. I decided to put him back in his cage. I approached him with a walnut in one hand, ready for him to step up on the other - but no - his beak went firmly into my finger! He is just downright adamant at the minute he's in charge! So, distraction with an object isn't working - I'm next going to try speech and talk to him about anything BUT going in his cage! Let's see what happens
  20. Sorry you have lost your grey ~ I hope you find it soon - here's a comprehensive list of templates for lost birds. I am sure people in your area will help out and keep an eye out for him/her. http://www.goodbirdinc.com/help-lostbirdflyers.html<br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/03/15 20:11
  21. Not getting into the dog debate here (but there's a lovely off topic room, where I will gladly accept your debate) Because he had a lovely day yesterday and did everything he wanted to, he went into his cage last night like an angel! Don't be worried though - I am not fooled by his turnaround in character - I know it won't last! I'll see what he's like tonight and report back! Keep your ideas coming - I'm doing the distraction move at the moment
  22. It's great to hear that Kopi is settling in so well ~ what great news! It's fab that he's letting you hold him etc and I'm sure you will come on leaps and bounds in your relationship. Keep up the good work
  23. I love that little feathery face of the babies! Murphy is gorgeous. I'm sure you'll have lots of tales to tell us over the coming months, and I look forward the hearing them
  24. Thanks for that link Jay - and Harvey is definitely as described "a pit bull with claws". Some other great reading matter on that site too. You're all right about not reacting or showing my frustration - but it is so difficult (I'm not the most patient of people at the best of times - so when I'm getting bitten I'm even less so)! Today's been fine - it's quite fine here in the UK so I've opened the conservatory doors and put his java tree in there - other than constantly jumping on top of the blinds and picking them off he's been quite well behaved (but I haven't tried putting him in his cage as I haven't been anywhere)! I've tried the food bribe - doesn't work, so perhaps something more unusual might work - I'll definitely give it a try Jane - thanks! Until I next get a good bite......
