Sheila, I am sorry to hear of Charlie's wing problems, poor little thing. Did the vet discuss giardia? Giardia is common in 75% of cockatiels, and whilst it isn't contagious to us or other animals it is transferable between bird species. One of the problems that giardia manifests is birds pulling feathers and making themselves scream. It certainly can be treated - just an idea (my cockatiel was tested for it when he had his chest infection and was positive to no detrimental effect). Hope little Charlie better soon x

I wouldn't fancy cleaning the poop up from that bird! Seen the size of it! Great video of Alfie - karma for the giggle xx

When you were choosing a parrot where did you think it would fly? They choose to fly to the highest point - it is where they feel safe and secure. You have two options - to clip or not to clip. You will read many a debate about this on the forum - just try typing it in and watch for the flares! It is a personal choice ~ but if you feel that you cannot retrieve Morgan(you can train them to fly to your command - also Morgan will come down when he wants to) then clipping Morgan's wings may be the option for you. Either way - you really need to get Morgan out of his cage or a lot of problems will arise

Ah, fingers crossed they get Oscar back - keep your eyes peeled down there

Great topic Dave ~ karma to you! Joy is Harvey chomping his way through his 10th broccoli floret....mmmmmm! Love to see the picture of the chopstick!
-
Be careful what you wish for Cindy!! Only joking! You will love it when Chimay starts flying around. It is such a joy. He'll have you run ragged - you'll both be really fit, chasing around the house. Great news - can't wait for your first "flight report"
-
Happy Hatchday Salsa - you get that Spock told! You are the centre of attention for today, not him!!!
-
Thanks Stephen ~ karma to you for sharing this with us. I thought it was something "Lord of the Rings" like, so it's a surprise that it's a band name! From the description though - I'll not be checking you tube to hear them

Crazy giant green chicken! Ha Ha! Happy Hatchday Salsa - great photos! Salsa is definitely enjoying that spray!!!

Great topic Julie ~ karma to you. Well, as you already know, like yourself I love football (and have just sat in anticipation waiting to see whether Wayne Bridge shook John Terry's hand - he didn't)! I also love shopping! Luckily, here in the North East, I have both the largest inner city shopping centre (Eldon Square) and the biggest out of town shopping centre (Metro Centre) in Europe to choose from! Oh what a joy!

Malaysia certainly has some beautiful parks ~ and Cocoa looks like he is having the time of his life in the lovely, warm sunshine (here in the UK we have certainly forgotten what the sun is like)! Thanks for sharing these - they are beautiful
-
Check you out Dee ~ port! You are clearly the refined one amongst us

What a gorgeous bird - I particularly like the yellow ones at the bottom - beautiful birds. It's such a shame about the poachers - they should all have their hands chopped off!

Harvey lost his first tail feather around the same age - and I panicked too! It's totally normal ~ it may have been damaged in his cage or a new one may be coming through. Harvey is missing a couple at the minute and it's taking forever for them to come through - but don't worry. You will find the downy feathers forever ~ I'm sure I've had enough to stuff a good duvet! Harvey seems to preen his downy feathers in his cage overnight - I find a lot of them in his cage. Don't worry - it's absolutely normal

You are all mental - the hospital will be seeking your return shortly! Ryan - you are quite correct - I do have a bit of a cleaning "fettish" - but I am quite concerned about all of you! Considering I have always thought of you all as considerate, caring, loving parrot owners I am now starting to question this! Where is the shiny bit that you can all see!!! I can see a splattering of bird poop that I missed when I was cleaning it - but can't see anything shiny - can you all not spot what birdie poop looks like!!!!!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/02/27 12:27

Answer: Buy your Grey a McDonalds - or the birdie equivalent!! I bought a couple of these "seed rings" and Michael gave one to Harvey on his new tree tonight. He tied a shoelace around it to hang it over his stand - what a hit!!! It's been so peaceful for about half an hour now whilst Harvey rips it apart!!! Bliss!!!

Hey! You're not alone!!! F.A.R.T back in session! It's nearly March and the New Year Resolutions have definitely gone! I have a nice bottle of Chardonnay chilling in the fridge!

Tracy's New Momma in Memphis
JillyBeanz replied to memphisbird's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi to you, and a warm welcome back to Tracey! I am so pleased that Tracy has obviously found you - and by taking the first crucial steps of visiting the vet you are shaping up as his "forever parront". As you have been a long time lurker, there's no need to encourage you to post any questions etc - you know fine well they will be answered swiftly. Can't wait to see some pictures -
animalINSPIRED wrote: OMG! I was just saying to Dave the other day how sad I was that "MY" babies had flown the nest and that he should have made it part of the contract that their new families joined the forum!! I am overjoyed that we'll still be able to follow one of the chicks that we've watched from being an egg. You're right - Dave is one in a million - he let us all share in this journey with him and I loved every minute of it.

I do the same as Julie - I feed Harvey before I go to work in the morning, so it's usually "brekkie". He goes for his morning ablutions on his stand, then returns to the top of his cage so that he has a good view into the kitchen whilst I'm preparing his bowls. He's yet to say his flipping name - so I've got no chance with brekkie!!!

Harvey has a banana shaped mineral block which is studded with sunflower seeds - guess which bit remains in his cage! Yip - the mineral block - he chewed all the sunflower seeds out on the first day it was put in his cage! He's not bright enough to realise it's the yellow bit that's good for him!! If I put a cuttlefish in he destroys it!

Body Language - What Is She Trying To Tell Me?
JillyBeanz replied to Azzie's topic in The GREY Lounge
The only time Harvey ever makes this noise is if I have my mobile phone in his vicinity - honestly! I think Harvey is in love with my Nokia! As soon as he starts, like both Jan and Lyn, I walk away to discourage him. Harvey's done it since he was very little too
