Before I start, I'm not overly worried, but yesterday Harvey was sitting on his tree and giving me kisses etc. I started blowing on him (he loves it) and blew on his chest, at the level of his keel. I got the shock of my life! The feathers parted and revealed a good centimetre gap on either side of his keel. When he is sitting "normally" his chest is fully covered, great condition, with no sign of feather loss - but I have never noticed how "thin on the ground" the feathers on Harvey's chest are. Is this usual? I have noticed quite a lot of "grey" feathers recently, but just thought these were a moult. Can you all just please nip over and blow on the chest of you grey and let me know what you find!!!

Welcome to both of you! I too was a lurker for a few months and I was never going to join a forum (they are for dweebs) but this lot were sooooooo welcoming and lovely that I took a deep breath and joined too! I have to say it is the best thing I have done in order to help me bring up Harvey. You can't do it alone (as proved in all of the adverts selling greys) and the words of utmost encouragement and friendliness from all involved here is central to Harvey's wellbeing (and my psychiatric state at times)!!! I can't wait to hear more about you and your family, and also obviously Kito

That is absolutely fantastic Dee and would look lovely in any home in the world (but particularly in mine!!!!). I think this signifies the light and love that you showed Juno and also secondly the happiness and glow that Kopi now gives. I can't wait to see it finished (and lying on my bed)

Congratulations Dan  I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts about your life with Dayo, and read implicitly any instruction you choose to give to help Harvey on his road to health and happiness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ~ here's to the next 10,000!!!

Well, Harvey's stubborn streak continues. It has been an absolutely beautiful day here (best this year) and I was in the garden. Of course my thoughts, as usual, turned towards Harvey. He was stuck in his cage in the house. I have tried now for the last few weeks to re-introduce the Aviator to Harvey, to no avail - today being the worst experience ever! He sat on the back of the chair and I slipped the harness over his wings and then he pounced. He bit, big style, into the soft bit of my inner thumb, and nearly ripped it clear of my finger. I still didn't react, other than actually having to physically shake him off - he was clamped on and meaning it. My thumb is now double it's usual size, and throbbing. I'm not sure whether to ever try it again - it's not worth the stress for either of us

Ha Ha! Harvey is exactly the same - that's why there are no films of him anywhere here! We have to employ stealth tactics in order to film them!

I think I've been the winner in my battles (although of course, it's the taking part that really counts)!!! Well, a full year later - the grey hairs are starting to appear, I now have crows lines around my eyes - so cheers to the botox and hair dye I shall shortly be resorting to (thanks to a bird)!!!

Oh I know I shouldn't have laughed, but as Lyn describes it was exactly the "and your hand is there for what reason" look, he was just like an indignant toddler! It was just so hilarious that he was clever enough to change tact and decide that biting didn't work anymore, so let's move on.....! Hopefully episode three of this saga will be that Harvey took himself off to his cage and closed the door behind him......NO FLAMING CHANCE!!!

What super news! It must be such a fantastic moment when a birdie gets it's wings back! Great news Maggie - thanks for letting us know. Just means more trouble in your household though doesn't it!

What a lovely photo of Megan in the snow! As you know, I don't have any other pets, but my mam is able to send Suzy (her four year old Weimaraner) to sleep by looking at her in a certain way! It's hard to describe, but she gets up on the sofa next to my mam and my mam looks at her wide eyed and then keeps tipping her head side to side, it's hilarious to watch - her eyes start drooping (the dog's not my mam's) and she falls asleep! I've tried it on Harvey and I'll let you imagine yourselves the outcome of that one

Friday nights have become soooooo quiet round here! I used to be joined regularly by those whose birdies had turned them to drink! I laughed when I read the start " I'm Jill and I'm 34 (now, 35) and my 33 week old parrot (33 WEEKS - THAT WAS A LIFETIME AGO)! So, celebrate the fact I've been a member for a full year!! Cheers and thanks for listening to me moaning everyone!!!!

JungleDreamz wrote: That's right! Because a big, brown hairy nut from a palm tree is a COCONUT! Our greys will NEVER crack those ones!!! Palm nuts, in the parrot sense, are the fruit of the African oil palm (Elaesis guineensis), which grows throughout tropical Africa. Palm nuts are not much bigger than grapes and grow in large bunches. They are orange-red in color, and their pulp and oil give a distinctive color and taste to many African soups and stews. Palm oil is to tropical African cooking what olive oil is to Mediterranean cooking and butter is to northern European cooking. So - it's an integral part of the African cooking world, not just the staple diet of the grey. Hope this helps

Right, we've had "biting" point blank refusal - what about "I'll pretend I'm stuffed and not move". This was last night at bed time! I said "Come on Harvey, birdie byes" and he was sat on his tree and didn't move. I went across to him, asked him to step up and he didn't budge a muscle. I stroked him, I picked at his talons, I kissed him, but still he wouldn't move! What was funnier was, Michael even stroked him and tickled him (which Harvey doesn't allow EVER) and he didn't move! It was just like the local taxidermist had moved in! Well, I prefer it to the biting, that's all I will say! The problem was, I couldn't stop laughing - and it wasn't helping matters!!!

Don't worry Sheila - I totally understand how important the Grand National is to the area and the economy of Liverpool - you certainly don't have to defend it - and also have a ton of friends invading your space this weekend (I apologise in advance)! In case any of you didn't get it (which clearly none of you have) CREOSOTE on FENCES - come on - like I know anything about horse racing
-
I hate the Grand National with a passion (don't like the poor horses being hurt, sod the jockeys) but have been given a great tip for Saturday: Creosote 16/1 very good over fences

On Saturday Harvey and I will have been "official" forum members for a whole year! I did lurk for a bit before hand (I'd never joined a forum before - they are for freaks)! What I find remarkable is that I've stuck in here for a year! I have made some really good friends (and really good enemies). I have laughed with you, laughed at you and cried at some of the stories we have shared, but also glowed with some of the tales that have been told. Most of all, you are my comfort blanket. I know that there will be someone around 24/7 if I ever need any help. So, from Harvey and me - A BIG THANK YOU - just for putting up with us so long!!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/04/08 20:32

SunnyBird wrote: See! It's now written in stone! Thanks Renate! Ha Ha! Joking asides - how on earth do you have a picture of Jordan there (especially without the copyright infringement payments etc). When I signed her up to "Wormboy" I patented all of her photos. I shall be after you for my royalties  Jill - they did wiggle and jiggle their way to my heart and after saving those earthworms, I'm moving onto mosquitos - don't you just love them
-
Oh I am using this music so much!!! I've got a couple of those CDs somewhere Dave from years ago - it didn't even enter my mind to use them! Great idea - off to dust off the collection (well, it's all downloaded nowadays isn't it)
-
Hey! Welcome back Bonnie! I remember your terrible loss so well. Glad to hear from you and really looking forward to hearing about your new baby. Get those photos posted really quickly!!
