......I think the word you are choosing to describe me is "inquisitive" - a much more sensitive way of saying nosey!!! There's a saying round these parts "shy bairns get nowt". This means "shy children get nothing". I choose to education myself further daily........!!!

Goodness me! I had to read it three times to take in the velocity of what happened here. It is truly unbelievable. What an absolutely fascinating read. Thanks for sharing this. PS. If you want me to write Virginia a reference to get you into her group - then my fingers are poised to type!!

NY metro area - 10 month old Timneh African Grey for sale
JillyBeanz replied to Plink's topic in Classifieds Room
Jacural - Plink isn't around much on the forum - why don't you try emailing Plink through their profile page - it would be great that a good home is found for this bird and we can follow the progress x -
Ha Ha! I was always known here for my stealth abilities of parrot filming - but I think you have won the prize!! Next time can we have a picture of Rene! You can so clearly hear him say "Good Boy" - I love how he really enunciates so well, so it is so clear. Thanks for sharing this - it's great to hear he is settling in so well
-
Ha Ha! In a word, no! How thoroughly exciting!!! I can't wait to get my fingers clicking!!!! I've never had a reputation before - oooh, I've always wanted one!!!
-
Nearly! You got the "question" right but just labelled it as the "answer"! Q: What Galaxy is our solar system is situated in? A: There are sixteen moons.
-
OMG! Lyn, that is an absolutely fantastic shot! You're one hell of a photographer! Thanks for revitalising this thread - come on everyone else - there's loads of new members who tell us they have numerous pets in their welcomes - please let us know here x
-
Ooh! We seem to have a "reputation" button too (that little star thingy)! I'm like the forum detective - give me the sheriff's badge now!!!!
-
Absolutely hilarious Robin! I absolutely love the captioning - I have laughed and laughed all the way through!!! Oh - and I have bopped my way and sang my heart throughout it!!! So did Harvey too - but strictly no dancing!!!
-
They are gorgeous Renate - I especially like the little one curled in the hand - soooo sweet! Thank your friend very much - they are beautiful x

Have you noticed, that when you have posted on a thread there is a little "green thing" that appears between what you are "flock member" etc and your avatar picture. If you hover over the dot it says "JillyBeanz is on a distinguished road" - What's that mean then! Clearly I am distinguished - but why the advertisement!!!! Answers on a postcard.......! ooh - I've just noticed there's different ones! Pearlyn for example says "Pearllyn will be famous soon enough"!!! Please someone explain this to me!!!!
-
Ha Ha! Just showed Michael your photos and he's off to buy himself a Harley! He didn't realise biking was so much fun!!!!! I personally don't think he looked at the bikes at all!!! I think this just might satisfy Dan's "appetite this evening"!!!
-
Oh my goodness! Not knowing what the Laughlin River Run is I have just googled it! What a fantastic few days!! I bet those tough bikers went all soft when they met Salsa & Spock though!!! Great pictures of the bikes too - that red one is the size of my car!!! Looking forward to the next set of pictures (any buff boys for us girls?????)
-
Hi Jacarual and welcome to our family! Glad that you made the leap and joined us. It's always nice to hear about people with other birds in their life, as well as their greys, and I can't wait to see some pictures of them all (great name Noogie too)!! Hope you enjoy it here x
-
Ha Ha! I'll have to watch out.....! Oh well, that puts pay to that idea then. I just find it extremely strange that a button has been flicked since the longer days started and Harvey is now back to his happy little self (after my hands looking like I'd poked them through the bars of a lion's den)! I'll just enjoy it while it lasts - and when he turns into a monster again you will all have to just put up with my moaning!!!
-
Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! How did I miss this!!! Dave - I have nearly peed my pants! They are wearing the EXACT outfits I train in - gosh, I can't believe someone would copy me!!! Now that I am cheering again - I shall put this routine to good use - you never know, the next video might be of me!!! NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT!

We all know the importance of sunlight for our birds, but something I have noticed is that since the clocks changed to British Summertime (BST) and sunrise is about 6am, and sunset about 8.30pm, Harvey has changed character. I have had a terrible few months with him biting and other behaviour problems, but the difference in him is immense. So - could parrots suffer from SAD syndrome like some humans do? It just seems too much of a coincidence that his personality has changed so much (he's like one of those African Greys that are advertised - cuddly, sweet, gorgeous.....)! This could be what has tipped me over regarding UV lighting and perhaps the difference that it would make for his behaviour, as well as his health.

It looks like you have the harness just right around the front - I think that the only thing I can think of is that greys are broader around the "shoulders" and the length from the beak to central chest longer in a grey - that's all it looks like - just a little "slack" on the harness. It's never going to come off - so don't worry about it. Harvey picks at his too - but I learned that this is to make it fit in with his feathers - they adjust them to lie comfortably against their bodies. Great pictures - thanks for sharing x

What beautiful pictures - those colours on Sunshine are brought out fantastically! He looks lovely and comfortable there in that tree - I bet you had trouble getting him down!
-
It's lovely to hear of how you became Kihei's forever home, and it does sound like David is sad to see her go - the fact he is emailing you to ask how she is shows that he is interested in her welfare. You have quite a little zoo going on there - I can only cope with Harvey!!! She sounds like she is getting really settled with your family - I can't wait to hear of her progress. Thanks for sharing her story x

Some more strange but funny behaviour from baby Murphy
JillyBeanz replied to reggieroo's topic in The Nursery
Harvey does this when I point my mobile phone at him to either take a video or a photo. Harvey's in love with my mobile phone. As soon as he starts I stop pointing it at him - I feel I am encouraging his sexual behaviour, which of course is cruel. Definitely take Judy's advice and discourage it. I just walk away too. -
How thoroughly interesting - so near, yet so far apart! Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to research this Jay. Until this room was created I thought there was only one type of Amazon Parrot - how wrong I have been shown!!

Hi Blades and welcome to our family. Well done for researching before "jumping in". On balance, comparing these two birds, you have to take into account what you want back from a grey? Do you want a "hands on" bird who will allow you to pet and stroke them or are you quite happy that you might never "befriend" the bird. Before my grey I had a cockatiel for 15½ years who I rescued at 1½ years old - he had been mistreated and NEVER trusted me ever. For his last 10 years he stayed in his cage - he was too much of a hazard to himself out of the cage. He was happy, fed, watered and loved. He didn't have a care in the world. His cage was in exactly the same place as my grey's - the centre of the household. The fact I couldn't handle him didn't bother me. I had rescued a bird in need. He was much better with me than at his last home, even if our relationship was from behind bars. Now my grey, spoon fed in a family environment is the proper, A1 cuddly African grey advertised. I love our relationship - but I wouldn't say it was anymore special than my one with my cockatiel - they are poles apart and I can't compare my relationship with either. The decision is yours - but firstly you must know EXACTLY what type of relationship you want with a grey. Good luck - I hope you are a grey owner soon x

Harvey only tolerates showering - and only once in the year he has been with me has he "puffed up" to let that water run right to his skin. He will sit there, with absolute disgust on his face and let the shower fall over him. He will let me lift his wings to get to his "armpits" and would sit there as long as I asked him to - but I wouldn't say he enjoys it! To get the aloe to his skin I obviously add it to a spray. I stupidly thought he might just sit on his shower perch and accept the misting - BIG MISTAKE!! I have to shower him first to soak him to the skin and then put him in his cage to be misted. He hates it with a passion and jumps all over the cage to get rid of me, before he finally settles on his perch. I just carry on regardless.........! Good luck with your showers - you can see how happy they are once they have been showered (they just won't admit i)!!!
-
Harvey just LOVES chillies - he will sit for ages and pick one apart - I ensure that I don't ask for a kiss for a while afterwards though!!!
