Stop your bragging Robin! The North Sea is tropical at this time of year - must reach at least 10 degrees celcius! And still the people of the North East paddle in the waves!!!!
-
Nope - not the start of a rude joke  For months now we have been using "Monkey Nuts" to give Harvey for a treat - and I've just read a post Judy has answered in the Welcome Room (but unfortunately she's gone offline) about the shells and fungus. Can someone please confirm that the ones I am giving him are okay for him. I buy the ones that are meant for human consumption - can these also harbor this deadly fungus? I've got a ton of parrot mix too with monkey nuts in - I'm off to the kitchen to pick them out too if someone can confirm this for me. Waiting in anticipation......!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/20 20:57

Tomorrow evening people!!!! Get on over there!
-
Robin - you can't reserve your seats without full sign up and payment to me! Stop being greedy!!! Tomorrow can't come soon enough!!!
-
I know what I used to have - but you know what I have got - all of you!! None of us would be here without our babies!!! So - be grateful I bought Harvey - or none of you would have the pleasure!!
-
Each time you post pictures of Harley he is looking better, and better, and better. He is absolutely, undoubtedly 100% gorgeous! What a fab job you're doing Pat - karma for the beautiful birdie competition x
-
Ha Ha! If my house were that bad I...Used to have a Parrot!! Only joking - get your claws back in!! I used to have lovely blinds in my conservatory. I used to have an absolutely fantastic lamp in there too - well, the lamp is still there - the lampshade is the problem!! It comes on with a timer and we sit laughing (well, me crying) because it looks like the galaxy - there's so many bloody holes in it!! Oh yes - I've had a beautiful plant in there for 7 years that I've grown from seed nearly - it was about five foot high with lovely leaves too - oops, no leaves now! I used to buy stuff for me, clothes, perfume etc - now it's parrot toys, parrot foot, parrot accessories.....! I used to have boring nights tho - just watching the telly - I've never seen Coronation Street for months!! Now I've got Harvey - wouldn't change it for the world!!!
-
Ha Ha - the houses might be nice - but the neighbours (mostly) are pains in the arses! I've spoken more to Harvey in four months than I have to them in 7 years!! Oh you're all going to be so upset when you see my beach pictures - the Northumberland coast is no "Baywatch"!!! It's the North Sea - it's cold, windy, wet, windy, cold, cold, wet, windy.......!!!!!
-
That's great that the vet visit went well Pat - I'm sure you're right that you've fed Harley up since you've had him. With your love, care and attention Harley will generate into the fabulous healthy creature he should be. Great news! Jill x
-
Yay! On and off, by myself - with no fuss!!! Here's a picture to prove it!! Can't wait for the weekend - we're going to the beach!! He's never been before - can't wait to see the look on his face when he hears the waves crashing!!

I "needed" an african grey and therefore paid the "outrageous" price that our breeder commanded (which, considering it was £850 I'd say I have a bargain for my absolutely fantastic baby and would have paid treble if that was the going rate)! It's a case of "I need an Aston Martin" - but that's not going to happen - I'm stuck with Mercedes! You say you have all of these birds - so you must know how expesive they are to keep? Why the "need"? Sounds like desperation! Can you not just enjoy the pets you already have? If you can't pay - why not do what we tell the kids to do - SAVE!
-
If only I had the patience! Actually, I'm going to have to find the patience - Harvey's costing me a fortune! Thanks for this Pat - I might have a go at the weekend! I don't think I'll be posting my creation tho!! :woohoo:
-
Caitlin, there were about three or four toys hidden amongst the shreddy stuff - I stuff monkey nuts and wooden blocks in there too - the one he has in his beak came with the ball. I've just noticed what a view we all have into my neighbours' homes! Sorry neighbours!
-
There's been so much in the press lately about some idiot politician slagging of the NHS on some show in the States - even Barack's own mother has come out in the NHS' defence as they saved her life! Here's my other guilty secret! I work for the NHS and I'm proud of it - there's too much "complain nation" going on nowadays and not enough praise. I'm thankful for the NHS - they pay my mortgage and I don't have to pay if I become ill! Rant over!
-
Good old Sterling!!! At least he wouldn't have smelled today (unlike your hubby)! I can't wait until Harvey enjoys the shower - at the minute he just tolerates this - perhaps it was the sight of your hubby in the nude that did it!!!
-
Ah, those little black button eyes - don't last long though do they! They are superb - I love them! It's such an apprehensive and exciting time waiting for your baby - enjoy the peace is my advice!
-
Can't wait to see your photos of Omar - they are so lovely when they are little babies. Harvey was a minx from day one - he's never changed - albeit a little less cuddly than he was. Enjoy! Looking forwarding to haring more from you. Jill x
-
Look in the homemade toys and stands section - there's some beauties there! I'm no good at making things - Jolley's and the local pet shop get my trade!! Try sitting Bertie in the bathroom with you when you have a shower for a while - he may get used to it. That's what I did with Harvey - then progressed to taking him in and then left him in on his own. Like I say - he doesn't like it - but gets a good drowning!
-
I've been giving Harvey the Willow Ball intermittently (as I know he'd chew it to bits in seconds) - tonight he found the hidden toys in the centre! The aftermath of his chewing action follows: Don't worry - there's more ball left - I've taken it from him again!!!
-
Hi Gill - Welcome to the forum - I can't believe you've had a grey so long and not found this fantastic site!! You'll find everyone so welcoming - and their knowledge excellent. Hope to see more of you and Bertie. Harvey will tolerate the shower - but doesn't get the "drench" as he sits there, feathers tight. He does lift his wing on command though - so at least his pits get a spraying! Looking forward to hearing more about you and Bertie. Jill x
-
Hi Hill - You are doing all you can - just little bits at a time. He needs to trust you and by bowing his head and letting you touch him for a moment is an accomplishment in itself! It's not a quick process - time and patience is of the essence! What about offering him a treat when he lets you stroke him?
-
Hey, I need no persuasion! I think my liver no longer pulsates after a bit of a break after my holidays!! Can I wait just a little longer tho - It's 07.15 and I'm at work - I kinda need this job for the mortgage and the car!!!
-
Just to put your minds at rest - the stuff I bought was from a proper pet place, with organic soil and organic wheat germ - anyway £6 later and it was a waste of time! Harvey hated it!! I've left it to grow and keep trying to give him it - he just picks it out and throws it on the floor!! This morning I came downstairs and went through the normal routine of washing his bowls etc and giving him breakfast and I could smell this absolutely revolting smell - it was coming from the wheat grass soil - I've never smelt anything to vulgar in my life (and believe me I've seen and smelt some vulgar things!!). I took it straight to the bin - well, I do have a confession - it was recycling day and because I didn't want it buried in the bin that was going to be there for a week I "tucked" it into a paper carton!! I'll not be trying that again!
-
He's sitting on the windowsill as I type - bashing the hell out of the window and whistling at the top of his voice! He clearly wants to be out - think he fancies the female pigeon on the top of the lamp post outside!! :woohoo:
-
Hi Dave - I didn't leave it on for a couple of weeks I didn't post about this for a couple of weeks LOL. I'm not that mean (well, I am, but just with the kids!!). Before we went on our hols he was on his harness each evening and went into the garden - then obviously I didn't expect my parents to try him on this, as it's only me who he'll let put it on him (and my husband to tighten it). When we came back from holiday three weeks ago he just wouldn't let me put it back on. I've tried intermittently over the last couple of weeks and up until yesterday he certainly didn't want it on. I've had it hanging on his cage and he just wanted to chew it! Then a miracle happened. I asked him if he wanted to go outside - his head shot up, as it used to and he stood there, totally complacent whilst I slipped it over his head! There was no fuss taking it off either - the robber that stole the real Harvey and replaced him a few weeks ago had fetched back my nice birdie!! Harvey is clearly picking up that the dominant folks in this house are female  and he's feeling left out - so he's becoming hormonal so as he's not left out!! Thanks all for your encouragement - and if he "fails" again, I think I will have to start totally from the beginning.
