Cool - divorce on the forum! You don't get these on the parrot pages in the UK - no wonder I was attracted to this site - it's for the scandal!!!! PS. Who would get custody of the birdies?
-
He does come to me when I call him (but then again, I don't often have to ask, because I am soooo irresistible)! Britain's Got Talent here we come (hopefully I'll be slightly more successful than the woman who had her grey on stage singing "Take on me" by Aha)!!!
-
Oh for goodness sake! I'm lucky, I live in a detached house so Harvey can make all of the noise he wants! Their neighbour must sit in silence, with no TV or radio on if they can hear the grey. I find Harvey's noises completely tolerable and would NEVER cover him up as he doesn't get on my nerves! Mind you, my cockatiel had regular coverings (those with tiels will agree how noisy and aggravating their squawks are!!!). Now that they have annoyed me (if I was her) I would turn my speakers to the wall, turn the music up and go shopping! What a pain! PS. I've been told I don't tolerate fools gladly (and that was by a previous boss) therefore they wouldn't stand a chance living next to me!!!

Oh my god! After 12 hours at work I didn't feel energetic enough to starting dancing round the living room - so I tried the "hand shaking". Harvey took to it like a duck to water! He honestly took about 2 minutes! As soon as I say "Shake hands" he reaches forward and ducks his head down, grips my finger whilst I shake it and say "pleased to meet you". I thought it was just a fluke, but he's repeatedly doing it!!!! I will leave the dancing until another day - but that's next (well, after I've taught him to do the ironing and load the washing machine!!!).
-
Cheerios! Harvey will sell his soul for a quick fix of Cherrios (doesn't matter which colour!!)
-
Ha Ha - don't hold your breath tho - he's an arrogant little toad - I think he'll probably look at me and fly away. It doesn't matter if I lock him in one room for training - he'll find something more interesting than me!!
-
I love your videos of Dayo - he's such a sweetie. Poor Kim really got it there! I can't wait for the day that Harvey trusts me enough to lie him on his back - Dayo looked soooooo cute.

bringing home my new baby macaw pebbles on sat
JillyBeanz replied to shazbaby36's topic in Other Birds
She is absolutely beautiful. I love the colours of macaws and take my hat off to all of you who have them - as they are far too big for me!! She's absolutely beautiful - looking forward to some more pictures of pebbles. -
Since Harvey is such a pain when it comes to trying new food (everything I offer is looked at as tho it is poison)we try EVERYTHING going. My newest conquest is wheatgrass. I'm growing it in a little tub and it's now 2 inches tall. Well, on offering it to Harvey he pulled a piece out, delicately turned it upside down......and starting eating the soil! What on earth am I going to do with this bird! He'd eat sunflower seeds and corn until it comes out of his ears - he picks the veggies out and tosses them on the floor - I've tried - spinach, broccoli, potato, sweet potato, green beans (although he does like these raw), carrot etc - the list is endless! So, I'm trying to find new things - and he's more intent on eating the growing matter. Yuck!
-
That is absolutely hilarious! I hope it's a premium brand and none of that thin stuff mind! So, he goes into the bathroom, turns the water on and uses the toilet roll - perhaps you can teach him to dump in the toilet - just to complete the routine! Thanks for this Dan - it's so funny! :woohoo:
-
Yay! You've done it! These are fab shots - Tigerlily's having the time of her life!!! Thanks for these - I love them! :)
-
I know we aren't all sitting glued to the computer screen (well, the women won't be!!!), but what are you doing in between? I'll start - I'm ironing! Katie is going away for the week with relatives, so I've just packed her bags, Tom's away to Newquay with his mates and Michael's at Headingley watching the Aussies thrash England at cricket (so, after a day's drinking I am sooooo looking forward to him coming home!!!) So, here I am, flitting back and forward, ironing! Oh what a splendid afternoon!!! What are you doing?
-
At least you've had the weather! Can't wait to see the pictures - and I'm so glad there weren't any problems with Tigerlily. Good on you for leading the crusade in the UK for parrots to be an accepted pet!
-
Ha Ha Ha! I've already made a fool of myself this week with Harvey whistling at that young lad, so I may as well go one step further! Dan - If I could make Harvey turn off the tap Dayo and he would be a great double act - we could wipe the floor internationally on Britain's Got Talent/America's Got Talent!! Simon Cowell would love us! As for the video - I promise that if I get Harvey to do this I will video it - but will say that the camera will be fixed on him!!! :woohoo:
-
These are gorgeous! We didn't have a chance to see Harvey this young - so seeing these is such a treat. Thanks for sharing these with us - how on earth do you pick one!!!
-
Don't they always do things when your back's turned!! Harvey won't go near a bath - I tried even a plate with some water on, stood him in it (which he didn't mind) but that's the way he stayed - stood, not moving for a minute or so, and then side stepped out! Good for Beau! The chinchilla owners will be sick of us parrot owners stealing their gear!
-
Harvey has the attention span of a pea! He can do all the early things (stepping up/down, kiss, bend over for a tickle etc). I'd like to make things more interesting for him and teach him something new (don't get me wrong, I don't want him to be a performing seal - but I do want to work with him to achieve something new). What do your fids do - and also how did you achieve it!
-
Toebie's an adventurer! Harvey was the same. The breeder told us to keep his perches low and food bowls on the floor, just so he could find his way etc. I put him in the cage, and as instructed right on the bottom. Within about 5 minutes he was hanging upside down from the top of the cage! Thanks for sharing these pictures of Toebie - he's beautiful.
-
Harvey's 8 months old and he makes this low, grumbling, rumbling noise when he thinks nobody is listening! We think he's just lowering his voice ready to be the world renowned, best talker ever, that I intend him to be! :  Harvey really tries to push this grumbly sound too - just to make himself heard! Your baby still will make his screaming, squeaky noises too - just when he feels like it.
-
Hold on - how's this appeared! It's four years old - his Parrot will be four now!!! What's going on!!!!
-
Hi Radiant - good on you for asking the questions that you have - they are all important questions. You will find absolutely everything you need to know from this website - don't go changing! I'll answer the potty training one because that is something I triumphed in! Your baby will wiggle his tail and crouch - they give you a little warning! As soon as he does this lift him (swiftly) and take him to your nominated "poop area". Tell him to "go poop" and after he's done this reward him with a treat. Harvey hardly ever poops anywhere but his playstand now - and it didn't take him too long to realise he had to poop on this. Withdraw the treats after a while tho - as he'll think he gets one each time he poops!! ;)

I was in the garden yesterday and Harvey was out on his stand (harnessed of course) and a woman stopped to look at him who lived nearby. She told me that a year ago she went into her garden to hang her washing and sitting on her fence was a CAG. She had no experience of parrots, or indeed birds, and she whistled at it. The bird flew straight over to her. She contacted the police, the RSPCA and local vets and to this day this parrot hasn't been claimed. It now lives over the road with a guy who had a CAG. The parrot was well cared for, friendly and could talk loads - how on earth can people not look for their babies? Goes to show you doesn't it.
-
This is my opinion - the long and short of it is: When you have a human baby they grow and start toddling, they get into mischief, they get on your nerves. At 12 months old you don't say "Let's go and get his/her legs chopped off - when they're not as much of a pain, we'll let another pair grow in". Wing clipping has nothing to do with the wellbeing of the bird - it's easiness for the owners. Yes, Harvey's into everything, flying all over the house, finding new things to destroy - but he's a bird - they are born to fly. Sorry - rant over, but I was getting quite upset by previous posts. PS. I'm gonna comment on Dave007 - his posts are interesting, constructive and informative - wildiesel - you've crash landed on a very friendly forum, intent on creating havoc.

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/09 10:09

Ah - how gorgeous - these times are the best! Thanks for sharing these pictures - it makes me remember times gone by (and Harvey's only 8 months old)! What a sweetie
-
Harvey is fearless too - There's no flying away when new toys are introduced and he's quite acceptable of new people - although they don't touch him, but can stand very close to him, lean in and talk to him - in our out of his cage. Then again, saying that, Harvey is only 8 months old - so I suppose everything is new to him. I also agree with luvparrots - I do what I think is right for Harvey, I don't always follow the form. Great post wildiesel - it will bring on such a debate
