  1. You can buy those electronic mouse deterrents that plug into your normal plug and emit some sort of harmless electrical noise/field that mice don't like. I can't say that I would go to the bother of getting a cat - if you don't want to kill the mice, why not use a humane trap? I had mice in my garage and this worked a treat - I just walked over 300 yards away from home and let the mouse go. The only problem with these is that you have to watch them all the time - if a mouse is left in them they scare themselves to death!
  2. OMG - you don't!! Those poor kids! Social Services will be involved shortly  I took Harvey in the front garden one day while I was weeding (our house faces onto a cycle track) and a woman walking her dog asked me if he was a pigeon! Until the UK catches up with the US & Canada we'll just have to be those "odd ladies with the birds!!".
  3. That is absolutely fantastic - they ship to the UK too!! Only, the UK isn't as "parroty" as the US & Canada and I think if I walked up the street with that on my back I'd get some funny looks!!! So, until I save up to move over there, I'll just have to wait for your photos!!
  4. Ho - Ho - Ho! This time Friday I'll start an off topic thread - AA here we come! I take chip and pin and it'll only be £7 a session! Actually - I haven't actually got a parrot - this is my ruse to fleece you all - it's gradually working!!!
  5. Lucky Lucky Harley! I'm lucky Pat - Harvey hasn't done this yet (and I don't particularly want him to!). How about having a treat in your hand (fat free!!) to give him each time you scratch him - he can't gurge if he's eating!! The only problem I foresee with this is he'll think he gets something each time you go near him! Perhaps replace it with a toy! Can't wait to see more pictures of your stunning addition ~ I showed my husband his picture to show how beautiful he was and I was told "You're not getting one"! Bit out of my league methinks anyway!!
  6. Ah Robin, Dixie's gorgeous - and that's not a swing it's a throne!! My god, what luxury! What a lucky little Parrot Dixie is!!
  7. Hi Tycos_mom - I got this at Jolley's - I'm not sure if it's a UK thing - but I'm sure other stores will stock them over in the US. I've had to take it from him tho - £10 worth of willow would be gone in a moment!! He's spotted the wooden toys hidden now and can't quite work out how to get to them.......!
  8. Harvey's 7 months now Gorndt and starting the low mumbling noises - like the others say your grey will start whistling all sorts to get your attention and prove how great he is! I kinda relate them to kids - you pray for the day they recognise things and you pray that they'll start talking soon - and then wish they'd shut up! Just enjoy the peace for now and enjoy what new things your birdie brings. Jill x
  9. Another fab one Davey - I'm a bit worried tho that this forum has devolved into alcoholics anonymous - we're talking about the old drink quite a lot nowadays!!!!
  10. Oh Arun - what absolutely fantastic news! I've logged on this morning to find out if there was any news and "Hey Presto" here it is! I'm sure Chikki will be absolutely overwhelmed at being home with you - such a lucky family you are! Can I make a suggestion - an Aviator harness costs about 20 quid - and stops your parrot from taking off!!!! Great news and now hope to hear more of Chikki's (grounded) movements! Smiling all over now!!
  11. Hi Gorndt - you've come to the right place for information (not from me tho - I'm a learner too!!). Looking forward to seeing some photos of Leto!
  12. I posted a few days ago that I'd bought a chinchilla willow ball - it's been such a hit that I thought I would try and upload the picture to show you the size of it and how Harvey loves it ~ here it goes - apologies for my first attempt if it doesn't work!!! I promise I'll try again if this is no good!!
  13. Just my personal experience - but Spiky my cockatiel died of old age, not disease and just to be on the very safe side I transferred absolutely nothing of Spiky's. I just didn't feel comfortable - just in case there was something Spiky could have been harboring that was no harm to him, but could have transferred to Harvey - also, the smell from the bleach isn't too good either.
  14. Harvey forgot after two weeks of being at my parents - and now we are having a little power struggle to get it onto him! I'm not as scared as I used to be about his insistence that he's not putting it on and I win when I'm chasing him round the dining room!! Before we went on holiday he had it on all the time - but now seems slightly unsure when I produce it - patience is a virtue they say!
  15. We used to keep the blinds and curtains drawn until Harvey realised it wasn't such a good idea to fly into them. The breeder had promised that they were like "helicopters" and could judge their landings brilliantly. Like you, we had a few near misses, Harvey's not clipped and I don't intend getting him clipped. He learned really quickly that flying into the window wasn't a good idea - and like the breeder said - a helicopter he is!
  16. Ah, that's lovely Davey ~ a right proper Pam Ayres!
  17. Hi Arun - I'm too at work and have logged in just to see if you have found Chikki. I'm sad you haven't, yet. Very interesting from communicator - it's an interesting option, and I can see you are doing absolutely everything possible for Chikki's safe return. Fingers still crossed Chikki will come home. Jill x:(
  18. No problem - this is not an interruption this is yet another person with a sense of humour! Anyway - it's not alcohol that Harvey gets - I buy him cuban cigars! Tango - this is a joke too! There's too much seriousness going on the world not to have a laugh. Back to the shower - he's very happy to stand on his perch in the shower and now has the tendency to crouch as low as he can in order that his feet don't get wet! It's the look on his face tho - he knows he's got one up on me!!
  19. What a great idea that basket is - but Ecko is obviously much more gentle than Harvey - he'd have the handle pulled to bits in moments!! Ecko looks like he's loving it!! Anyway Julie - exotic backgrounds - doesn't your back garden look like that!!!
  20. Hi pugman - it's great that you've given a home to an obviously needy birdie. You'll find everything here you need to know - I'm really new to CAGs too (Harvey's 7 months now) and I don't go anywhere else for information than here. One thing I would say that I've learned is - don't go near Chet Womach's DVDs! Don't give your email address to any of his sites - they haunt you forever (and pass your address onto other stalkers!!). You'll get all the tips here you need for free! It'l be great to hear all about Sophie in the future and it seems you're winning her over so far. Good luck - and let us know how you get on.
  21. He is absolutely beautiful - not what I had in mind at all! I've never seen such fabulous colours - I'm not surprised you were attracted to him. How lucky are you (and he) Harley is an absolute stunner. Congrats on bringing him home. Jill xx:cheer:
  22. Still no news on Chikki? Have you heard back from the Parrot Society bloke? I hope to hear something soon from you (hopefully complaining about Chikki's antics when you get him back). Thinking of you and Chikki. Definitely keep us posted - waiting for news. Jill x
  23. Thanks Tango - both Robin and I have absolutely no intention of giving our parrots alcohol - there's a history behind my alcoholic tendencies (in relation to the antics of a 7 month old) so it's just a little joke - I promise! Anyway - I'm too greedy to share mine with anybody!! Ha lovethatgrey - I'm a little worried about the scrawnyness - I can imagine how pathetic they look - my mam used to have a bearded collie dog, and when we bathed her she looked like a skinned rat!! Harvey's dusty again - the outside is getting washed, but not the insides!! I'll keep persevering tho - he's not getting the best of me!!
  24. We use the quick links too - Harvey hasn't managed to fathom these yet - quick to put on and quick to take off - very safe in cases of emergency etc.
