If I could get the bottle over his head it would be a bonus - he sees it and he's off!! It's like a game of tag through the house!!
-
Harvey's 8 months and would let me do anthing to him - he even still loves me when I've chased him around with the mister bottle! He changed when we returned from our holidays and had been separated for two weeks. From the day we came home he just wouldn't do anything for Michael. It's not like when we were away he got attached to my mother and became a "female liker" - he was my dad's best friend.
-
Ah - well done Lee - Cocoa is obviously trying to be friends!! Keep up the good work
-
I love the fact that Mynahs always look so miserable! It's hilarious!! Mocha is one absolutely adorable cutie pie. The pictures and videos are so informative - thanks - I'm loving these.

Harvey has changed his attitude towards my husband over the last few weeks. He will step up when he needs removing from something and he'll fly and sit on his knee, but if he tries to scratch him or touch him in any way he puffs up and bites out. He used to love him, so I'm not sure why he's changed - my husband certainly hasn't done anything wrong to him to make him scared or not like him - he's just changed. It's getting to the point now where my husband won't retrieve Harvey in case he does get bitten - this has already happened with the kids - they won't go near him any more as Harvey is so horrible to them and bites at the first opportunity.

Ha Ha! I didn't for one minute think it was a swipe Julie - it's not your fault I live in the most Northern, cold, wet, miserable county in England!! Oh yeah - incidentally - it's tipping it down here!!! Perhaps I should buy a sunbed shop for the coming months - plenty of UV light there!!
-
Yes, he definitely caught it in the car door last time he had it on! Silly man, can he not remember! Priceless pictures Caroline - but deffo keep them secret
-
What a fabulous picture of Chicken Tracie - he's beautiful - and such a poser! Good news that he's eating independently. Harvey only eats when and what he wants too - and I find that it's usually later in the evening - he soon makes a mess then!
-
It'll be great to hear more about your family - well done for taking on an older bird in your Grey. Looking forward to some photos.

I get tons of these at work of all places. Honestly, I've had so many offers of millions of dollars into my account that it's unbelievable. When I go to work each morning I have at least two of these - oh yeah, and the offer of cheap Viagra too! Considering my employer is the biggest in the UK you would think their filters would be enough to stop them!!
-
Move up here Julie - the North East Riviera (just south of dreary Scotland to those who don't know it)!! Plenty of sun, sea, sand..... yip, we've got sea and sand - not the sun tho - that was kind of a lie!! I thought about one of these lamps too - but what about the electricity? Do they use much - I pay Powergen enough I think at the minute!!!
-
Yip! That day will never come - I'm testament to that this morning. Harvey's in a foul mood and I now have a few "impressions" on my fingers and wrist from where I tried to remove him from places he's not allowed!
-
Jeez, thanks for the sympathy Dan. I came on here crying, looking for sympathy - and what did I get? The next installment this morning - I got the bottle out of the cupboard - he was miles away from me on top of his cage and when I turned round he was gone!! I've read on the bottle that it's good for "the bowels" - so I might drink the stuff myself!

The Aviator Harness scream has returned - but not with the harness (that's still good in the hood!) Having read everything about aloe juice and its benefits I went and got some today (it's not cheap here mind you!), bought a new spray bottle (meant for birdies) filled it up, took Harvey to his stand, gave him the bottle to bite for a moment and told him he was going to have a "little spray". Well....One spray and all hell broke loose!! You'd think I was throttling him! So, I thought - right, we'll go in the shower cubicle - that's where you shower, with no protestations! Nope - same again. He hates the mister!!!! So, short of breaking into the water system and infusing it with Aloe, I'm not entirely sure how he's ever going to get the benefit!!!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/22 17:47

Ah Ziggy and ZaZu - sounds like some dodgy 80s pop get up! I love it!!! Love to see the photos of Ziggy - what a cutie he will be.
-
Harvey kisses his toys, licks them, kisses them again and then kicks the s*@$£ out of them. Put it this way - I wouldn't want to get in between him and one of his acrylic toys! And the noises......! :woohoo:
-
Harvey's learning day by day that he doesn't need to "touch base" to get around. He used to use his cage (mid house) as a "stop off" before he tried to come upstairs or elsewhere - now he can just fly straight through the house, upstairs and perch himself on the banister. They learn so well - good on you for re-thinking. Jill x

It's like every other site I'm afraid - I offered great joining incentives, but now I'm after your cash! After one hell of a long week at work (my colleague is on holiday in Cyprus and left me to do all the work!) I've put in a 60 hour week. So, sorry - I'm starting now!!!! :woohoo:

WHOOPS! PRESSED TOO MANY BUTTONS! Your baby pics look soooo cute in your profile - can't wait to see the big ones! Jill x

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/21 13:47

And now the fun begins!!! Congratulations on bringing your baby home - can't wait to see pictures - they are just "baby looking" for that very short time - and then the horns and the tail develop!! Take a snapshot of your home - cos it won't look that way soon!!!
-
Hi Johann - welcome to our family. You'll find loads of advice and ideas here - you'll not go anywhere else - I promise! I look forward to some pictures of your baby (what's he/she called)? Jill xx

Please let you baby learn to fly - they do bump and stumble - but in the end they're just like helicopters - they can turn on a sixpence, and they can hover like an eagle. "Here are Bobbi Brinker's, renowned & highly respected African Grey expert" - WHAT! Who on earth called Bobbi Bollox "renowned and highly respected"? She may be respected about general grey activity - but her openinly advocating and advertising clipping is just short of propganda!!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/21 13:30

Here in the UK the best I found was about £17 a month. There are only a couple of companies that would actually insure us. I decided not to take it out. If there are any expensive vets bills I'll just have to sell a kidney!!
-
OMG - That is super! Your sun room looks like a tropical enclosure at a zoo! It's like a "find the birdie". I firstly only saw your grey - but I think I've found another three (have I won!!!),

Thanks Judy - I can't believe I've put Harvey at such risk. We've been so careful about absolutely everything, so I'm so ashamed I've given him these (and regularly - they're even bought in his seed mix). I knew about aspergillosis and other fungal based respiratory diseases, and had been told by a knowledgeable chap at the pet store we use about making sure that we used human grade nuts for Harvey (we were talking peanuts - and he obviously warned us away from wild bird nuts etc). I've just shown my husband and the kids your invaluable link and it's agreed that he doesn't get any more. I wish I could give you 50 karmas for this - you don't know what it means (well, actually, I know you do!), so only one karma coming your way. Thank you so much Judy, I rely on you and all of the guys for the in depth knowledge and experience. Jill x
