We have to perch bright pink cushions on top of our lamp and doors in our conservatory! This has worked for a bit - but unfortunately he's just taken to landing on them and chewing them (nothing is too scary for too long in Harvey's case). Now those pans Sheila.....I hope they aren't teflon coated!

Best wishes and love from over here too. You have every right to be proud of him - and all other families and loved ones of anyone in any of the allied forces. I am a strong supporter of the forces, having friends and family (husband's cousin married a chap in the US airforce and has just moved over to the US) and also my own friends in the UK Forces. -
Yoshi is gorgeous! I can't remember Harvey being so small (but he obviously was!). Yoshi is such a poser - loves the camera! Thanks for these.

Great post - and I agree fully. I've had the same type of disagreement this evening with Harvey. He's flown to the top of my conservatory doors so many times this evening it is unbelievable. Each time I have asked him to step up he's point blank refused. I went away, came back a few moments later and said "okay Harvey, if this is how you are going to be you'll be going back in your cage" - at which point he bowed his head, stepped onto my hand and gave me a kiss! I too am of the understanding that they are open to reasoning - and to this end I'm going to continue along those lines. Karma to you for posting what I was already thinking, but felt too stupid to post! -
Traveling and will probably have to leave Monk..

You don't say where you are going in Europe but if it's the UK every bird has a quarantine period of 30 days - so there's your month gone! If you have a family member to leave her with she'll be fine - I left Harvey with my parents for two weeks when we went on holiday and I was so worried about him - I needn't have been! When I came home he'd been well cared for and stuck to me for a couple of days on my return. I wouldn't put Pumpkin through the ordeal of travel for the sake of a month. -
Oh my god, Robin - Dixie is such a clever birdie! I sit here reading posts like this and think I might've brought home a mute! I bet I'm the one who has the parrot that doesn't talk ever - even though everyone in the world's seems to!! He's not even attempting to say hello - let alone introduce himself to any visitors!! PS. I'll still love him though!

Natalia, Harvey is now 8 months old and is not clipped. I, like the others who've already posted, will never get Harvey clipped. It is a pleasure to see him flying around the house. When you think he's going to crash into something, he puts the "brakes" on, swiftly turns and lands where safe. Don't be worried - your CAG will learn. Jill x

Harvey will only let me install and uninstall his harness. He won't let my husband near him at this stage. He will sit on his knee and walk about with him once he's in the harness, but Michael wouldn't even try to put it on/take it off due to exactly the same scenario that your wife has encountered. Just looks like it's another "me" job!

Adaya is such a clever girl! I know I can't wait for Harvey to talk (if he ever does) but I'm sure I'll be wanting ear plugs once he does start (a bit like children I suppose!!).
-
Ha Ha! You're right - Beau is looking at you with that "who me" face! He looks like he's having a ball! Thanks for these Julie - nice to see new pictures of gorgeous little Beau.
-
LOL - definitely "the one"! Who needs a big diamond sparkling solitaire to show you he loves you (er, still would be nice though - just in case he's reading!!) Can't wait to see your pictures - and to see if Chimmay will go on it!
-
Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! OMG - how much have we changed!!! Do they do diamond encrusted Jolly Balls? The question is - has he agreed to it? I hope you get what you wish for.

I know how I would be if I lost Harvey - your description would have been me too. Your story gives hope to those of us who lose concentration for one moment to enable our babies to escape. I'm forever thinking of ways that I can make our home "parrot proof", but short of boarding up the windows and doors it will never be 100% safe. I'm so glad Lily is home and that the vet has given her a clean bill of health.

Ramsabi - you are obviously the only person who didn't spot the CAG and TAG sitting on the railway platforms. They are very clear to see - so yes - they probably do belong here (and the amazon on top of the clock in Dave's posting is beautiful too).
-
Never mind Ecko Caitlin - you are some photographer! My flight photos look like I've had 15 beers before taking them (I always catch a wing or a door, or the cage!). He is sooo beautiful - I love your flying photos. :woohoo:

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/24 21:29

If you are still in school I would definitely say "don't bother". You don't have the time to spend with your Grey - you have school, you have a social life, you have clubs to join, bars to go to (later) - wait until you are old, decrepit and in the house all of the time (oh, that's me) and you can spend all of your time with your grey. I have wanted a parrot forever - I had a tiel (who are very very very easy to look after in comparison with a grey). Go out, have a life, get married, have kids, settle down - and then buy a grey if you still want one! I've never seen the TV for five months since Harvey came home - let alone seen the inside of a bar!

Our breeder didn't give us the option of having Harvey before he was weaned. The breeder told us (as he and his father before have bred for 30 years +) that they wouldn't give an inexperienced parrot owner a bird before weaning. I think this is a very big responsibility - I don't think I'd be worrying about baths I'd be worrying about feeding her! Harvey had his first shower at 12 weeks (we'd had him a couple of days). I'm not going to say he liked it - because he didn't! He quite "happily" sits there and lets the water run off him in the shower now - but I haven't achieved the drench yet (he's 8 months old).

Hi Jay (and baby Angel). Welcome to our family. You will find absolutely everything you need to know from these guys - they are my parrot bible and I go nowhere else for help, advice (oh, and the odd bit of humour thrown in here and there). Right - she's had 24 hours - Get the Camera Out!!!
-
Thanks for sharing that with us - Bella's a little doll - such a cutie - so obliging too! I can manage one of those at a time with Harvey - then he'd be off! Well done!!
-
KC, I never panicked when the kids got hurt, I never panic at work - but I know for sure I would have panicked in your situation. I never, ever would have attempted cutting nails, or indeed beaks on my tiel (and I had 17 years experience of him). Thank you for being honest and posting this - hopefully it will stop anyone in their tracks who had any little inkling that this was an easy task - your picture proves that this just isn't the case. I am so glad Lulu is okay, and I think you might have come out alright too.

In our house we come in, pick the mail up, throw it on the desk, come back later, empty the useless envelopes full of useless junk mail and it sits there until someone puts it in the bin! Tonight it was still there when I came to check on the Parrot World. Of course, on cue, along came Harvey. Oh, where is he? and what do you think he did next? So, send your junk mail here!!

That was great Dave (I love the Sound of Music). This is London's version of it (filmed at Liverpool Street Station). http://www.prefixmag.com/forum/prefix-forum/4124/ I wish I'd been there - I wouldn't have known the dance but I would've been right in the middle!!!

Hi Judy ~ I have no problems getting him wet - he'll sit in the shower no problem (no fluff up though) but I want to get that aloe under his wings and into his skin - he may as well have come dressed in a wet suit!! Do you think if I turned him upside down and dangled him by his feet the feathers may fluff up!!! (joking)! My tiel used to love being misted - hung himself nearly upside down (even at 17 years of age) in order to get a good soaking - one day, oh one day, that will be Harvey!!!
-
I must support all said before too - Harvey is treated in our house like a child. If he is naughty he is told he is naughty. He doesn't fly around the house willy nilly either. He may think he can (such as flying upstairs when we are downstairs) but, as tedious as it may seem, one of us goes and instantly retrieves him. I posted yesterday that Harvey was in a foul mood and he bit me every time I took him off something he wasn't allowed to be on. This only happened until he was placed back in his cage. They must learn how YOU want them to act - don't let them have the upper hand. I believe what they learn now will go a long way for theirs (and mine) future, happy life.

Ha Ha Ha!! Mint! Cheeky Charlie alright!! What a character!
