  1. Beau was in a particularly cuddly mood tonight and let me hold him in my arms, this doesn't happen often, he usually prefers his sctatches from my shoulder. One thing he did tonight was he kept stretching his neck in and out, up and down and kindly left a small piece of scrambled egg (which he had eaten earlier) on my leg...nice..not! :ohmy: {Feel-good-0002006E}
  2. WOW Mango is a real beauty...and a cutie. :laugh:
  3. :laugh: He looks like a wise old man. He's gorgeous!
  4. I often wonder if hairspray on someone's hands can harm our birds. I'm a hairdresser and when shielding someone's face inadvertantly get it on my hands, as I arrive home and go over to my grey, he automatically opens his beak for a nibble as I stroke him so I have taken to washing my hands before going to him. Tobacco on someone's hands must be as or more dangerous I would think.
  5. Aww what a cutie. Aren't they adorable at that age? Please give your baby an extra cuddle for me
  6. chimaysmommy, that's about the same rate as we get here - about 6 out of 10. Anyone who gets a better rate than this is doing extremely well! :laugh:
  7. Aww, well done! One thing I have learned is than you need to persevere with AGs.
  8. It is day 7 and Beau is now eating a larger quantity of the Harrisons pellets, not as much as the parrot mix which includes seeds but nevertheless they seem to have become part of his diet and I will very soon need to buy more - a bigger pack. From my point of view this means that Beau is having the best diet I can give him because he is getting a wide veriety of food which includes both foods that he loves and foods that are good for him.
  9. How exciting? Do keep us updated Azzie, it would be great to hear the pitter patter of tiny claws :woohoo:
  10. It would seem (after reading Azzie's comments) that the best solution then would be the click-together flooring which requires no glue. I have laminate in my hallway and kitchen - no glue was used in fitting it. I have carpets in my living room and dining area where Beau spends all his time. I've just got used to reading the signs when he wants to go, he gives a little wiggle of his tail and begins to squat but he is very good and can hold on until I move him lol!
  11. Timotian, there is no such word as "contradistinguish" in the English language - at least not that I'm aware of. It's either: Contradict; meaning saying one thing is true and then saying the oposite is true - contradicting yourself. Distinguish; to point out one thing from the other. I think you are trying to say that there are two possible causes of plucking: Physical and psycological. Yes I agree.
  12. The Beach Boys Who is your all time favourite politition? (not sur I've spelt that right
  13. Happy birthday (hatchday) to Charlie. I hope he will be spoilt rotton today!
  14. Timotian, what an awful photograph, a beautiful bird who has made him/herself ugly. I would say that you yourself would be the one to offer an informed opinion on the reasons for such behaviour but if you are to ask me I would say it has to be phsycological, this bird is truly unhappy and the reasons behind it must be investigated. The sooner the problem is found and treated, the more chance there is of "nipping it in the bud" so to speak. Now at the risk of upsetting those who clip their birds (which I really don't want to do as in an earlier thread of mine some owners gave good, justifiable reasons why they do this) I would say that clipped birds are the most likely to pluck. All birds are meant to fly and to take this away from them is almost asking for trouble. After saying this though there must be thousands of clipped birds who don't pluck. Neglected birds & bored birds are also likely candidates for plucking. Parrots, greys in particular are also prone to dry irritated skin due to living in dry conditions - they do after all live near and in tropical rainforrests where there is humidity in the wild. Parrots living in captivity should bathe or be sprayed regularly, ideally twice a week or more. Finally, a molting parrot may pluck due to irritation or to help nature along it's way, hopefully this will stop after the bird has his new feathers. Now I'm no expert and this is only my humble opinion so please correct me if I am wrong.
  15. Days 2 & 3 of the Harrisons. I've not exactly seen Beau eating the pellets but much of what was left in his dish mornings have been smaller pieces as if he has been nibbling. Day 4. I caught Beau nibbling on a pellet whilst holding it in his claw! Hooray, Harrisons will now hopefully become part of his diet although I will still be giving him a veriety of other options. TBH the pellets don't look terribly apitising to me - I wouldn't touch 'em myself but there you go lol! :laugh:
  16. I'd say the more varied the diet the better: Fruit, nuts, veg, seed, pulses combined with little bits from our plate is about as varied as it comes. I also give mine pasta with a small amount of grated cheese occasionally and scrambled egg weekly. In the wild their diet must surely be as varied as it can get. I also agree with the notion that captive birds shouldn't have too much fat in their diets which means we should go easy on the seeds, like us though they shouldn't be deprived of the occasional treat, as long as it's in moderation I don't see it being a problem.
  17. This site was my first port of call this morning and I'm so happy that Jake has been found, smiles all round then Jake must have the same amount of lives as a cat I recon. Hope he enjoys being spoilt rotton for a few days now whilst Dan and his family enjoy welcoming him home. :woohoo:
  18. Dan, this is wonderful news! I am sooooooo pleased you seem to have found Jake. This news is truly uplifting and I can't wait for confirmation. Please post as soon as you know! I just knew Jake would try to avoid that thunderstorm, animals are more clever than us and know when a storm is brewing and your Jake is a clever bird not only for doing this but for surviving the heat and finding food for all this time. God bless Jake and you your family.
  19. I find it really strange that someone could get a parrot and a pidgeon mixed-up and if it kept happening to me I think I'd get annoyed. A pidgeon is completely different in every way.
  20. Thanks for your replies folks lol! At the risk of boring you all out of your brains I think I'll post a diary of how Beau progresses (if indeed there any progress) with the pellets, of course if there is no change I won't bother posting. I have bought him a 1lb bag so if there is no progress when it has gone it will be back to the original extra special parrot mix he was on before. Wish me luck eh? Lol!
  21. Day 1 of the Harrison's Beau is so not impressed with the pellets. I gave them to him this morning at around 7.15, it is now approaching lunch time and Beau is clearly hungry and has been standing on his food bowl and lifting it slightly and dropping it to let me know he wants something to eat. He was also given his usual fresh vegetables this morning which he has eaten but now he has taken to lifting each pellet from his bowl with his beak and propping them to the bottom of the cage - one by one. Very funny to watch but not when I think of him being hungry. Now, he must get the taste of the pellets as he holds them in his beak before dropping them but he obviously just isn't impressed! {Emotions-0002007E}
  22. Sending hugs your way Connie, so sorry you companion has gone but you have wonderful memories of her which will last forever.
