  1. Priceless lol! Glad to hear Misty came out of it intact.
  2. Are you short of good breeders in your area Carol? There doesn't seem to be any near me but I know of one in Cornwall, about 30miles or so away but the roads aren't too good getting there. I guess 30-40 miles would be "just down the road" for the average American as the country is so much bigger lol! Have you had a grey before?
  3. lol. I bet the waiting is killing you. I had to wait several weeks for mine and I decided to stay away because it is so hard to see your baby and then have to walk away empy handed but the weeks soon pass when you have a busy life - which you surely must have! You must post more pics when he is a little older and we can see how he has changed. X
  4. Do you have any other parrots Carol or just the dogs & cats?
  5. Carol, you must be so proud of your gorgeous baby. Love the red tail! B)
  6. Lol patience guys. I have him out atm, he is incredibly tame. Will have to wait for the other half to get home and take pics, Beau won't leave me alone, he's already bitten through my bracelet lol!
  7. I have given him some kiwi fruit & grapes and he has taken some. I might try a little digestive biscuit later, I might need to use that to entice him back into his cage if he comes out. Will try the sweet potato. Oh dear I think my other half is going to feel rather neglected in the weeks to come.
  8. Aww thanks caitb2007, he seems so happy and is eating well now. I may even let him out a little later, if I do I will take some pics.
  9. Ok just looked at your profile, Pepper is absolutely gorgeous!
  10. I will do just as soon as he starts chirping/squawking, he's a little quiet atm. Other than that he seems fine. Yours is gorgeous, his tail seems longer than beau's - very red too. Awww, is he/she called Btittany or is this just your user name?
  11. My beautiful Beau has arrived, he's been here just about an hour and hasn't stopped preening yet  I guess he must feel a little dishevelled after arriving in the back of a van  anyway, he is quite alert and has taken to a toy I have added to his cage, in fact he doesn't seem at all bothered by being in a new environment - or the short journey he undertook to get here. All is well with Beau & me. Any advice will be gratefully received
  12. Thanks for your enthusiasm guys. luvparrots, these birds were at Paignton zoo in Devon x
  13. I couldn't get over the size of the feet and length of tails on these blue Macaws, also they seemed keen to interact with us even though they were only partially tame. The colours were vibrant and these pics do not do them justice. Imagine these in the wild!
  14. I thought other members might like to see some pics I took from a zoo at the weekend. These beautiful birds took my breath away. The fairest of them all - the beautiful Hyacinth Macaw, THE most endangered of the parrot species. You'd need a very large house to keep this one as a pet - not recommended as it's probably illegal to do so! Hope these pics come out, this is my second attempt
  15. Thanks to everyone for the advice, some of you seem very knowledgeable on parrots. I will try to remember to weigh my bird regularly. Thanks again!
  16. Hi MM, another UK member - great! Look forward to reading about your 3 greys too.
  17. Thanks Sue, it's nice to be in contact with someone reletively close. Thanks for the febreeze tip - I do use the stuff and I'm SO glad you mentioned that! I have very few non-stick pans which I rarely use anyway but will get rid before my new arrival. Also my oven is self-clean - also a hazard I've seen on this forum. That will have to be a job done in the summer with beau outside! I can't find an avian vet in my yellow pages but will keep looking out for one and will let you know as & when. I'm learning every day and am counting the days for Beau's arrival. Keep in touch
  18. Although I'm currently awaiting delivery of my baby grey I have been happily browsing this sight for a few weeks. One thing that has stood out for me and one which TBH I haven't given much thought to until now is the possibility of sudden death - there have been a couple of horror stories on here! Although I have found this site very useful in the warning of dangers in and around the home that I wasn't aware of - teflon coated cookware, chocolate to name just two. There does seem to be occurance of sudden unexplained death so I would like to ask if anyone knows: Is sudden death in greys rare or relatively commonplace? I am still learning although I consider myself well read on the AG and it does seem that once the bird is ill, there is very little time to lose in seeking help. I will be looking through my telephone directory to check for my nearest specialist vet before my new family member arrives. Any advice from you guys will be gratefully received.
  19. Lol, don't worry 'bout it, I get plenty of those ;-) Well it's almost 9pm here and I've stuff to get ready for the morning so I'll be logging off for today. S'later, take care x
  20. As my user name suggests, I'm from the UK. "Never take life seriously, nobody gets out alive" is the slogan I was refering to.
  21. Thanks for that Judy, I see that some of the members on here come from Virginia (Walton country :-)) USA - one of the most beautiful places in the world IMO. Love your "life" slogan, v funny. You will probably see a lot of me on here in the coming weeks, looking for advice on my new family member. Take care x
  22. :woohoo: All these replies already, thanks guys! Beau (yes I've named him/her already) will be 15/16 weeks old when I get him next week. Is it right that you have to get a blood test done to sex the grey? If so I don't think I'll bother - I have a feeling it's male, not sure why though but yes I'm SO excited and have been awake a couple of nights with the expectancy of it all, like I said I've wanted one for a very long time.
  23. I'd just like to introduce myself. I'm very excited to be awaiting a special delivery of my first African Grey next Tues (7th April) after a lifetime of wanting one. I've had budgies & cockatiels before but never the elusive AG. I'm well read on the subject and now feel ready to give one a good home. I have found this site very informative and helpful and I look forward to exchanging information, advice and comments with you wherever you are. J
