  1. I agree with both Jane08 & FairY I also wondered "what shots?" and I belive that someone who has lost a daughter would want to hang on to the things her daughter loved or owned. Also this woman does seem to be trying to hurry you into a decision. My advice is to take your time, proceed with care and an open mind. Good luck.
  2. Oh dear, sorry luvparrots I wish I could take the credit for making this myself but I can't lol! I bought it from a UK based internet dealer.
  3. Thanks everyone for your reasuring words x
  4. It seems you have synchronised parrots there Tycos_mum! They are too cute
  5. Well it seems this thread has opened up a can of worms so to speak  Good debates are always a good thing and it does look like clipping has a psychological effect on the bird and I've lost count of how many replies (from those who have had their birds clipped whether not bt choice) contain the words "it breaks my heart to see my bid try to fly" Thanks everyone for your honest replies.
  6. Thanks Raposa, he has cuttlebone in his cage which I assumed was for keeping his beak trimmed, I didn't realise it was a calcium thing but thinking about it now it makes sense. Thanks for posting.
  7. Chimaysmommy, he is almost 5 months now so maybe you are right, anyway your advice is reasuring so thank you.
  8. Hi Devin25, That's a strange combination - a Boa or a Grey. I suspect the grey will live a lot longer than a boa but I don't know for sure. My eldst son had a snake and other than eat mice it didn't do much wheras your grey will require much more stimulation and give you hours of fun in return.
  9. Tycos_mum, that is a VERY good reason, I usually partially close my curtains to remind Beau about the glass. B)
  10. I was wondering if any other owners have experienced their grey's voice being a little gruff at times. Beau's has been like this for about 24hrs approx. He seems otherwise well, eating, pooing & behaving normally but his quiet chatting (of the bird variety) seems to be a little "throaty" - like a human with a sore throat, oh God these things are so difficult to describe without you being able to hear it for yourself! As usual I'm worrying about Beau. Ah the joys of being a new owner!
  11. I thought I'd start a (friendly - no arguments please) debate about wing clipping. I have to be against, my reasons: 1. Birds are born (hatched ;-)) to fly or they wouldn't have wings. 2. If they do (God forbid) manage to escape at least they stand a chance of survival in the wild. From a personal point of view: 3. When Beau lands after flying he looks so proud of himself. 4. Any bird in flight is a sight to behold. Please feel free to add your reasons why you are for or against.
  12. Thought I'd share these 2 pics, the first is of a new toy I bought Beau today. He isn't generally one for toys and funny enough I think this one is for small animals ie. hamsters - not really parrots but Beau seems to have taken a liking to it. I've been tying to take a pic of Beau in flight for several days and this is the best one I've come up with. As soon as he catches sight of a camera he heads straight for it lol! A parrot in flight is a beautiful thing lol!
  13. Hi faith, sounds like your grey has been through the wars but with lots of love, care and attention should soon heal. I don't feel qualified to help you as I'm a new owner myself but plenty on here will be happy to help you and your grey. I wish you both well.
  14. What a terribly sad story and for your Buttons to die in this way is so cruel but you have wonderful memories. Casper is right, people who have parrots are the only ones who truly understand the bond we all have with our babies and if you want to talk there will be many sympathetic people on here to will be willing to listen and help in any way they can. xx
  15. {Feel-good-0002006E} I really enjoyed reading this post, poor abused pepper. You should be ashamed of yourself Dave
  16. Does anyone know if there are any differences in the behaviour between these AG's? Is one a better talker than the other or one more prone to illnesses or behavioural problems? Also does anyone on here have both and prefer one to the other? I have to say that before I found this forum I thought that the congo was the AG because this is the only type widely available in the UK.
  17. Lovely pics. As for the sign, yes wild ones most certainly do belong in the wild but hand-reared ones have a place in our homes and our hearts - well that's my opinion anyway.
  18. Azzie, thank you so much for this link, it is something all parrot owners should read especially when you consider that almost all pre-packed dried foods for parrots contain some peanuts. As this information is so important I have added to your karma. Thank you.
  19. Marauder, thanks for the links. It's ok I wasn't planning on making a habit of giving Beau tea. The amount of caffine in tea is negligable anyway, coffee contains far more I believe. Thanks again for the advice.
  20. Thanks for the advice & links guys, will bear it in mind.
  21. I have a new one to add to Beau's list, I was sitting drnking my tea...Im sure you can guess the rest - Beau gave me no peace until he had some out of my cup, he loves tea. Anyone thinking of offering their grey tea, please make sure it isn't too hot. Maybe AG's would like to try "Earl Grey" tea?
