  1. Further to my post about my adding a hahns macaw to my flock, there is the possability of my aquiring a "baby green conure". I hope to view this bird on Friday but before I go I would like to know a little about this bird and conures in general, preferably from those who own/have owned one. The asking price for the said conure is a steal hence the reason I'd be able to buy it now when I was thinking about buying in the future. Is it true that conures in general are very noisy? The greens ones less so I've read. What is their diet, is it very different from a grey's diet? Do they have different requirements than a grey? My guess is that they are approx. a third the size of a typical AG and very similar to the hahns - am I right? Any advice would be gratefully received and karma to any "brilliant" replies! Thanks in advance. J
  2. Oh Steph, you have been beyond unlucky. What a terrible thing to have happen to you TWICE! If these birds weren't related then the answer isn't in the DNA and why did your vet keep giving you the "all clear" if this wasn't the case? It seems to me that the question mark hangs over a, the breeder and b, the vet. Did you check-out the breeder before you purchased your birds? What was he/she like? What were the birds like? The conditions and so on. Did you use the same cage/toys for the second bird and if so did you scrub them first? Sorry for all the questions but there has to be a reason you lost two birds and you absolutely must not suffer this again! Of course if you do find a reason there shouldn't be any reason you shouldn't get another bird but if I were you I think I'd change the vet. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  3. Aha that's great, keeping the star trekky theme going.
  4. Sounds like it has been relatively easy introducing your new flock member to Spock. Any possible names for the new guy yet? He looks like he has been heavily clipped bless him but I'm glad you have decided to let his flights grow again. Congrats to you!
  5. Definately, there are reputable sellers and shops on there just like any other shopping mall and Caitlyn is quite right to suggest checking out the feedback. Good luck with the cage hunt!
  6. Thanks Dan lol! Beau's seagull call is usually mixed in with his parrot twittering but not always. It's quite funny, the first time hubby heard it he looked at me and I started sniggering cos I knew what it was lol!
  7. Also I haven't seen Timotian on here for a while either.
  8. Congrats on your lovely girl! {Feel-good-00020114}
  9. Yeah I was thining that too, hope she's ok. Maybe she is just more busy now she has her son living with her.
  10. Cute? Well I didn't think so yesterday when he bit the crap out of me for stopping him from "foraging" my leather sofa :unsure:
  11. Beau is getting really good at mimicing the sounds from outside now as I often have the door open when the weather permits what with it being summer and all - well, what passes for summer in the UK lol! Anyway, with us being a coastal city we get lots sea gulls and Beau has their learned their call and also the blackbird's song. It is so funny to hear him call like a sea gull lol!
  12. What a great looking stand and so cheap too! You must be very have a very special bond with your beautiful Pepper to let her be free like that.
  13. Well done Bonnie for your persistance. The world needs people like you who aren't afraid to "take the bull by the horns" and if those birds could thank you they would. Karma to you {Feel-good-000200BB}
  14. JJ, everything sounds above-board to me so I wouldn't worry. Caitlyn is right and as I suspected they do vary.
  15. Hi JJJsHoney, I think you are right to question the age although I would imagine each bird would vary in size/developement as do humans of course. I would put yours at somewhere between 8 and 10 weeks. Is the breeder reputable? If so there is no reason he/she would lie about the age of the bird, neither would a breeder worth his salt allow a bird to go to the owner before it's ready. Incidently I went into the shop I bought my grey from and they had two greys in there aged 12 weeks - both were bigger in size than my grey who is now 6 months old. The shop is reputable with excellent breeder/s. Why not have a chat with your breeder about your concerns?
  16. Hi ZARA, I take it you are new. Welcome to the forum. You certainly will learn a lot from the members on here cos what they don't know about AG's aint worth knowing lol! Tell us a little about yourself. Are you a new owner or are you thining of getting a grey in the near future?
  17. Hi Jill, so glad you had a good holiday. Didn't we all tell ya Harvey would be fine??? You lucky, lucky thing, the weather has been terrible here - wish I could escape to somewhere warm & sunny :-(
  18. Karma to you GorgASS for having a military background such as myself. Brothers & sisters in arms. ;-)
  19. Don't worry tycos_mom, it WILL happen but I have to save my pennies first also I think it's wise to wait for Beau to have established his taling first, wouldn't want him to stop with the arrival of another parrot.
  20. What a scary story with a happy ending! I can only imagine how you must have felt from the time you saw her to when she was safely in your car, bet your heart was pounding. We are all delighted you have your Rita back!
