What a comprehensive explanation, Dave. Koko is almost 14 months of age but she doesn't seem to be interested in talking. She is good in mimicking sound. Her vocabs are limited to Hello, Good, Good Good and sometimes Good Girl ( I have never used this word, don't know where she learned this). Do you think she will talk more in future? Or just prefer to do sound. Any method to encourage her to talk? Sorry for hijacking your thread, Oppie.

I allow Koko to sit on my shoulder for a short while in the house. I hate getting bombed. I managed to train Koko not to perch on my shoulder when I took her out for a walk. She used to bite my ear and bombed on me while walking outdoor. I forced her to perch on my fingers each time when I took her out. After a few weeks of hard training, she finally got the message. Now I enjoy walking with her without getting my shirt stained. It's kind of embarrass walking with your shirt stained with poop especially red ones.

Glad to hear your baby has returned.

I have been keeping birds for more than a year. I have not spent a single cent on vet fee coz there isn't any avian vet in the city. Avian vets work in the zoo or bird parks in my country. They don't open clinics. And the zoo or the bird parks won't allow outside birds into their premise for the fear of bird flu. So there is no treatment for our fids. We have to keep our finger cross nothing would happen to them.

BTW, I am from Malaysia. As far as I know nobody sells palm nuts here in loose and nobody would buy them too. The palm nuts are collected from the plantations and are sent directly to factories where they are being processed. I get mine from my mom in law's plantation. Palm nuts grow mold pretty fast, within 2 days. By the time they reached you, I think they will rot. I have to keep them in the freezer. Sorry, I won't be able to help. I read somewhere in this forum, palm extract and the nuts can be purchased in UK. Maybe those UK members are able to help you.

My Koko likes to wipe her beak on my wife's shirt after eating. She prefers cloth over her perch.

This is another result of palm nut added to Buddy's diet. Look at the coloration of the beak. It changed to deep orange within a few weeks after consumption of palm nuts. Before. After.

Post edited by: dhorje, at: 2009/07/19 10:12

His name was Lucky but not so lucky. He passed away a few months ago.

The beak of my blue rumped had a rough spot on it. The beak condition looked in pretty bad shape when I first bought this fid. Look at the improvement after a few weeks on palm nuts diet. The rough spot was gone.

Hope your grey won't turn into an expensive meal for your slimy one.

I took my family to KL Tower Animal Park this afternoon. I thought it was a medium size park that housed moderate numbers of animals but to my disappointment it was such a mini one. Shouldn't trust what you saw on TV. But anyway I took some pics to share with you guys. This park is one of the attraction at KL Tower, the 4th tallest tower in the world. You can buy tickets to go all the way up to view Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. We didn't bother to go up there as the whole city was enveloped by haze caused by peat fire open burning in Sumatera, Indonesia and also some locally. KL Tower. Entrance to the Animal Park. Pony riding outside the tower. You have pay for it, nothing is free. ;D A cockatoo at the entrance. There is cockatiel in the background. A B&G at the entrance. I was told a conure had flown away.

I always put my Grey in the cage during our lunch or dinner time. This is the only way we can have our meals peacefully. At the same time I'll give her some food while we are eating so that she doesn't feel left out. Koko too loves to follow us wherever we go in the house. My wife doesn't mind that but I do because I don't like her pooping on me. She would prefer stick with my wife longer.

He looks dejected to me like his girl friend has just dumped him. LOL:laugh:

An in focus eyes indicates the pic is sharp. You have to use manual focus. Not an easy task because your grey won't sit still for you to focus. I normally get 3-5 good pics out of 10 shots.

I was cleaning my camera stuffs yesterday nite and I bumped into an old lens which had been laying dormant for years. I put it onto my dslr and it worked great. It could go less than 1ft from the subject and managed to get some portraits of Koko. Not an easy job though, I had to manual focus to get the eyes in focus.

Koko doesn't like cold mushy. Normally I add 1 teaspoon of mushy stuff and a little red palm oil to boiling hot oatmeal. Mix them and serve. Koko loves it this way. She doesn't like mushy by itself.

That's really cute. Maybe she was day dreaming.

Do not be despaired. I am sure he will regain his previous flying skill. Greys are intelligent. They keep learning everyday. Like my grey, she kept on practising until she could fly up to the upper floor and back to the lower floor. She is very good at it now.

How do your greys treat visitors in your home.
dhorje replied to Janfromboone's topic in The GREY Lounge
Koko is very well behaved and quiet when we have visitors around. She would fly to them if my friends are munching food. A few weeks ago, a wireman came to do some wiring in the kitchen. Koko sat on the fridge observing his work or probably she wanted to make sure the wireman doesn't steal anything. -
Happy Anniversary. {Feel-good-00020114}

Koko was around 3 months old when she arrived at my home late in the night. We fed her and played with her for a short while before putting her in the cage for bed time. The next morning we fed her and she was out of cage for almost the whole day. She even slept out side her cage, on the floor of the living room. I placed a small stool over her to shield her from accidentally being stepped onto. She adjusted fast and enjoyed our company. Her cage was placed in the living room so that she could see us at all the time.

The only thing that attracts Koko to fly in her harness is the playground. She loves that playgym. She would fly to that playgym before we could reach there and I had to sprint fast to catch up with her.

Post edited by: dhorje, at: 2009/07/11 00:05
