  1. I am so happy to see majority here are positive about not clipping. In my country 99.9% favors clipping. I am one of the 0.1% who do not clip. I am glad to have joined this forum and have learnt much from those of you who keep your birds flighted.

  3. It is breathtaking to see both of them fly. Koko is always the follower. "You fly, I fly," Koko says. Mocha being smaller and lighter is more agile and maneuver better than Koko. It is like comparing a F16 with a F15.
  4. Mocha and Koko were busy maneuvering in the house this afternoon. For those who do not know Mocha, he is a Hill Mynah. Mocha is the flight leader and Koko always follow from behind. As they were turning here and there, Mocha came close to the corner of the living room and made a quick U turn. In order to avoid a collision with Mocha, Koko had to make a right turn and crashed into the wall and fell to the ground. Luckily Koko was not hurt in the accident.
  5. Congrats on your promotion. Any karma for wishing you?
  6. I have been keeping my flighted Grey for a year. I have never had any problem with my Grey flying freely in the house as long as I keep her under supervision. She has never crashed into anything nor landed on hot stove nor frying pan. We keep her in the cage whenever we are cooking for her safety even though we know that she won't jump into the frying pan. I had left my entry door opened a couple of times by accident. My grey made no attempt to escape. My grey had even got out of the door once when she was playing on curtain rail but she didn't fly away. Once she managed to open the cage's door while I was showering her outside the house. She just stood on the cage. All these negligence made me more cautious. Many suggested clipping to me but I decided to go against it. I am glad that I didn't clip my bird. Before you make any decision, you should give your grey and yourself a chance to see how both of you could live together without clipping. BTW, besides my Grey I have a free flying Hill Mynah in the house too. That's my opinion.
  7. My Grey was a picky eater when she was a baby. But now she eats any food fed to her. She will finish her favorites and eat a little on foods that she doesn't like. She hated pellets formerly. She will finish the pellets now when she is hungry. They will change their eating habits as they grow up.
  8. Koko likes to take my daughter's pen away too especially those fancy pens.
  9. I have had my Grey for more than a year and she has yet to learn talking. She prefers sounds than words.
  10. My Grey goes to bed at 9:30pm and gets up at 7:00am. My friend and his wife go to work at 8:00am and come home at 8:00pm. They spend 2-3 hours with their grey on weekdays. So far, his grey is doing fine and bonded close to them.
  11. Koko does sleep during the day. She spends longer sleeping hours when we are not at home. I noticed that there's no poop on the bottom of the cage when we reached home after a few hours out. My Grey doesn't poo while asleep.
  12. Koko actually said, "tuk tuk, tuk tuk" asking scritches from Mocha. Poor Koko, Mocha ignored her all the time.

  14. Mocha loves to hangout on the staircase. He likes to be like Koko. The staircase is Koko's favorite hangout place in the house. Mocha made a number of flights this morning. He flew from the stairs to the kitchen and back to the stairs. Koko followed each time Mocha made a flight. Mocha flew to the kitchen and made a U-turn back to the stairs while Koko had to stop at the window and then flew back to the stairs. Being smaller and lighter, Mocha is more agile than Koko. It was so nice to watch both of them flying.
  15. Some new pics here. Mocha hasn't learn how to talk yet. He has been making some funny noises sound like herbivorous dinosaurs seen in the Jurassic Park. That's how the theory came about that dino evolved into birds.
  16. This morning was very sunny. I decided to take Koko to the playground and I brought along my camera. I met my neighbor on the way out, and here's our conversation. She: Taking photos for your bird? I: Yup, I am going to take photo for passport. She: Where are you going to? I: Thailand. LOL! She really thought Koko could apply for a passport. ;D Here are the pics of the flight. Flight 1. Flight 2. I took a close up photo as well just in case the immigration might approve Koko's passport.
  17. You can put your Grey in a smaller cage for the trip and buy a collapsible big cage which you can fit into your car.
  18. My daughter likes to use her finger or an object to tap on Koko's head and says 'tuk tuk'. Yesterday while I was using a small piece of wood to massage Koko's head, Koko kept on saying 'tuk tuk'. After awhile, she flew to my wife who was resting on the sofa. Koko saw my wife holding a cellphone and went after the phone. My wife refused to let her have the phone fearing that Koko would destroy it. Koko was persistent and kept on saying "tuk tuk". I told my wife Koko wanted her head to be massaged with the phone. This is how Koko wanted to be 'tuk tuked'.
  19. I am going to get some sugar canes from my neighbor. I hope Koko will love them.
