This is my 1st mynah. From what I found out from other owners, they do bond with their owner/ owners. They talk at will regardless you are strangers or not. They are quite intelligent. They know how to use the right words to communicate like Greys. Like parrot, Hill Mynah needs to interact with all the family members otherwise he will bond to the caretaker only. Mocha was getting some Vit D from the sun this morning.

Post edited by: dhorje, at: 2009/08/16 03:49

At one time all our metal clothes hangers went missing. Only the plastic ones left. One day, I saw a crow stealing out metal clothes hangers. I was wondering what the heck they want to do with our hangers. One fine day, I was walking past some trees and I saw lots of metal hangers in a tree. They were using the hangers to make nest. The hangers were bent into all kind of shapes.

Hill Mynahs are the most beautiful birds in the mynah family. They wean at 3-4 months on the average and start talking between ages of 2 and 4 months. They are soft bill and they do not have a crop like parrot. Seeds and nuts are not suitable for them. Their diet consists of small insects and fruits. Average life span is short at an average of 10 years. Some could live up to 20 years but this is very rare. They are good at mimicking sounds like Grey, their clarity of speech is very human like, far better than any species of parrots. These birds are very common in my country. They are much cheaper than parrots and thus making them more popular among bird lovers. Our local species is protected by law. The export of this bird is prohibited.

I have just added a new family member to the flock. His name is Mocha, a 4 weeks old baby Hill Mynah. Hill Mynah is known for his ability to mimic sounds and human speech with superb clarity even out do greys.

I took Koko out again just now. This time I put her in a cage. No more car sick this time.

I made an extension to the Aviator harness. I took Koko to the playground to video a few series of test flights and they turned out to be successful. edited by: dhorje, at: 2009/08/11 03:27

Upon reaching home from dinner last night at 8pm, I received a call from a client who was coming to pick up a package at 9pm. After feeding Koko, we took Koko out as well because I felt bad leaving her in the cage again after she had been quarantined for 2 hours during our dinner time. We drove out to meet my client at a nearby mall. On the way back, I drove overly-cautious because I was afraid Koko would jump over to my shoulder. Koko was with my wife and daughter sitting at the back. My stupid driving was so jerky that Koko could not take it any more. She threw up just before reaching home. She vomited the durian she had at 4pm. Yuck! The car was stinking with durian smell. She was like in daze when we reached home. My wife gave her some water and I watched over her for 30 minutes before putting her in the cage to sleep. My wife got up in the middle of the night to check and noticed that she slept on the floor instead of the perch. I think she was still seeing stars. She has recovered in the morning. She is back to her usual self now. I have to retake a driving lesson but this time with a parrot on board.

Yup, I agree with danmcq. An auto workshop is not a safe place for pets. The air is highly polluted and it will cause more damage than good to the grey.

Post edited by: dhorje, at: 2009/08/09 03:04

Koko is approx 14 months old. Hello, Good, Good Good and What? are the only words she knows for the last few months. I don't think she knows how to apply those words correctly.

That's what he told me. He wanted to come over to get bombed one more time.

Something great happened this morning. My wife sat down watching TV after preparing breakfast for Koko. After finishing her breakfast, Koko went to sit on my wife's head. She sat there quietly for quite sometime. Then she made a flight to her perch and bombed on the tray below. Soon after bombing, she made a return flight to my wife's head. This is the 1st time Koko did not poo on my wife's head. My wife's head used to be her potty bowl. A few hours later, while sitting on my wife's shoulder koko decided to jump on her perch to poo and then jumped back on my wife's shoulder. My wife was standing next to her perch. She did it twice today. We didn't train her to do that. I think it must be all the scoldings she had from my wife. Hope Koko would do that for long term other wise my wife got to buy more shampoo.

In fact, we were worried about her. There was no avian vet to seek advice from. We just hope she would be safe with my detox formula. As i am writing this she is flying around in the house chattering happily and noisily.

Yesterday night, at 10 something Koko flew to the sink and bit the cap of a dish cleaner. She swallowed some of the liquid. I quickly used my fingers to remove the liquid from her tongue. I could feel the liquid and when I smelt my fingers, the dish cleaner smell was quite strong. I removed the liquid thrice using my fingers until my wife told me to use a wet cloth to clean her tongue. As we do not have an avian vet in my area, all I could do was to give her liquid oxygen drops which has been proven to remove heavy metals in human body. I squeezed a few drops into a cup of spring water and fed her as much as she could drink. Then I gave her a little bit of vitamin c powder to detox her body. Lastly, I added pinch of wheat grass and spirulina powder to a tablespoon of water and had her to drink them. I had to use my knowledge and experience in human nutrition to detox Koko. That's all I could do for Koko. My wife got up at 1am and once at 5am to check on her. Thanks goodness she was alright. When I took her out of the cage at 7am, I noticed the newspaper was soaking wet with her urine. Usually it was dry. She doesn't poo in the night. I guess the detoxification works. She is back to her usual self now.
