Hi Claire, welcome to the Greyforums. Kudos to you for doing your research before selecting your parrot. I have both or rather three: a TAG, a CAG, and a BF ZON. Ana Grey is 5; Sterling Gris is 2 and Louie, the zon, is 5. The greys I have had since about 4-5 months old. My zon is a re-home who was 1 1/2 years old when he came to live with me. Frankly either grey or zon is a wonderful bird. If you will check in the Amazon Room you will see oodles of information about amazons and there are oodles of threads about greys in each of the others rooms. Just read, read, read and ask all the questions you want. If I had to choose zon or grey I would not. I love both species.

Well Welcome to you and your flock! Looking forward to learning more about all of you! -
Well, I do know that my greys know what keys to push..... So that's why they are not allowed the key to the computer room.

My neighbor has an older male ekkie. He is a re-home but is at least 10 years old. Sully is a sweetheart and is such a gentle guy that he goes out with his owner to street fairs and visiting. He is a great shoulder bird for his 6'5" male owner. Shamrock is a great name for your handsome guy!
-
He is adorable. How about Clover for 4 leaf clover. Or Blarney, Lucky, or Shamrock.
-
Oh I love that grapvine perch. Unfortunately, Louie, the zon, would have that destroyed in no time. He loves wood and destroys toys almost immediately.
-
Perhaps Kiwi at one time was transported in a cardboard box. For some reason she has a bad remembrance of a box. I would forget about having boxes around in her presence. Why agitate her unnecessarily.
-
Great intro Angelique. Welcome to you and Kiwi! What a lovely picture of your grey. Looking forward to hearing more about the two of you!

My gang love wooden toys to destroy. Great fun. I have bells in their cages and on their boings in the different rooms that they love to beat up.

New here and advice needed! :)

Hi Katie, welcome to the Grey family. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that our parrots will like each other or even get along. I have a TAG that hated, and I mean hated an older ekkie that I re-homed to the point that she would dive bomb him and attack him whenever she saw him. He was not flighted, she is. I re-homed the ekkie with my next door neighbor after 2 years of trying to have them get along. The three parrots I have now do get along but I believe other members have multiple birds that do not get along. My canary lives in another room because he would be dinner for my TAG if she saw him. Hopefully your parrot and your new grey will be friendly. Only time will tell. -
Putting Grey's together, male and female?
Luvparrots replied to Craiggill's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Craig, welcome to the Grey family. Great info from Ray. I have a female TAG, (5 years) and a male CAG ( 2 years). They are friends. My TAG will feed nuts to my CAG and my CAG takes them nicely. They each have their own cages and sometimes go into another's cage and steal food. They are never in the cages at the same time. My greys are flighted so can go anywhere they want. I also have a flighted zon and all three are out at the same time all the time. If any one of them wanted to "live" together, that would be fine with me, but that would be their choice. It's certainly not something I would encourage. If your greys choose to share a cage they would do it. Let them decide. I certainly would not want to lose the companionship you have with your little lady. If you want to bred greys, I would look into finding a breeding pair, but as I understand ti, it is not an easy thing to do, to raise, wean and sell greys. They need a calm and private area in which to live and are not friendly pets. -
I'm very happy to see that you are going to take it slow. What we call Grey Time. Had to laugh at your rendition of what Wilbur is think, because it is probably very true. Let your grey take the lead and see what happens. They are so smart and do want to belong.

New Member with lots of questions!
Luvparrots replied to CTKatie's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Katie, first of all, just relax. Let Luigi set the pace. Talk to Luigi and let him know what you are doing. Move slowly and precisely. No jerking motions and no quick movements. Luigi is trying to figure out what happened to his life. Be patient and let Luigi decide when you are okay. -
Great intro Bigwick. Looking forward to learning more about you and your grey.
-
Hi Bigwick, welcome to the Grey family. I do not have an aggressive grey but I do have a biting Blue Front Amazon. Louie was owned by a man who became ill and his wife and daughter put him outside. When I purchased him they told me he was "wild". Louie speaks Hindu, which I do not understand but he also speaks English. He is a very bright and loving zon, but only on his terms. I can't touch him or he will bite me. Every time. Not hard but he does bite. But, we are friends and Louie follows me all over my home. He is a great flyer. He likes and prefers men so when I do move on I have instructed by daughter to see that he has a male owner if I don't find one myself for him. Louie sits on my shoulder and likes to nibble my ears so we have a little battle going on there. He loves to preen my hair and will gently take treats from me. As long as Louie is the one who does the touching, all is golden. I suggest you stop trying to get your grey to do has you want and let him decide how much he wants to be around you. Open his cage door and back off and see what he does. Let him decide where your relation will go. Relax and just be a follower. My Louie tries very hard to understand what I want from him. He will go in and out of his cage at my command. He tries very hard to be my friend and of my three parrots, he is the favorite of everyone. Yes this untouchable parrot is most liked. Go figure! Louie has lived with me for almost three years. He is 5 years old now. He is a jewel in his own way.

Great video of Emma and her Atom!
-
My zon and tag are now 5 years old and my cag is only 2. I have not seen any sexual activity. My TAG does offer food to my CAG beak to beak but that's about it.
-
As always, Emma is a joy to listen to talk. Great video!
-
Oh so true. My Louie is my priceless joy. He is untouchable but so loving in his own way. I am older and he is only 5 years old. He is the one of my birdies that I worry about finding the right home for when it is time. Thank you for your post Murfchck.

Great to hear that your wife is home and well. It's always a beautiful thing to see when our pets show their love of a member of the family!

Great post Shauna! Welcome to the Grey family. I hung around here for about 3 months before I got my first parrot. I didn't become a grey parront until my children were grown and my hubby ceased to exist. I have three, a TAG (5 years old), a CAG ) 2 years old) and a re-homed BF ZON, (5 years old). They are all fully-flighted and buzz around my home most days. Looking forward to joining you on your journey to acquire your badly wanted grey and watching you both flourish together.

Just reach up and slap yourself hard for your mistake, rant, rave at yourself for your blunder and cry out loud..... then forgive yourself and move on. I am so sorry of the loss of Jasper. No one can rail on you more than you already have on yourself. I hope when the time is right that you will re-home a parrot that needs a loving home. Take care.

Why do you think Dayo wants to go outside and work on the flowers/yard. He gets the mowing and watering down and Dan is history! (smile)

My CAG picked up the phrase "Damn Bird" and loved to say it. I never said anything about it to him but started answer "Bad Bird, bad bird, what you do'in do. What you go'in do when they come for you" and he now says Bad Bird what you go'in do.
