  1. Can't see anything but a mess of this that and the other thing. Can't get in.
  2. Great pictures of your macaws. Thank you for sharing, Carol7 you should post more about them. They are beautiful.
  3. Hi William, great video of George. Looking forward to more as George seems to be a very interesting fellow.
  4. How lucky you are to have a water grey. So many of them hate the water. Fortunately, my greys also love the water. As long as your grey has the time to get thoroughly dry, to the skin, I think he should get to bathe as much as he wants (on his terms). It is important that your grey gets dry before sleep time and is warm no chills. Do not blow dry your grey, it dries out the skin, which I believe is harmful to birds. Enjoy your water baby.
  5. What a great thread. I truly enjoyed reading your enthusiasm and joy of being owned by a parrot. Inara is a lucky birdie to have found you and your hubby. Inara is a very pretty grey, I love TAGs, they are so self-assured and self-sufficient, at least the one(s) I know personally is. (smile)
  6. Sounds you and Cosmo have a very pleasant routine. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  7. Hi Carrie, welcome to you and Baby. I am sorry for the loss of Grandmother and so glad you are able to care for Baby. I believe you have a good start as Baby already knows you and from what you have said very socialized and family familiar. Looking forward to getting to know both you. Welcome to the Grey family!
  8. Oh Dachshunds are such cute dogs. had one when my grandson was very young.
  9. Ana Grey is now 5 since August. I love her pretty maroon tail. She is a true lady and is my best parrot and does as asked most of the time. She has given up talking most of the time and only speaks when she wants something. Louie will be 6 years old in December. Louie just loves life and tries very hard to please. He speaks Hindu and English and prefers guys. Sterling Gris will be 3 years old in March. Sterling is a bully and uses his size to get his way. He is a great talker and can mimic phrases almost instantly. Typical guy! Ana Grey is feeding Sterling Gris:
  10. Hi dannybrah92. Some great question to ask so far. I would also like to know: What is the daily routine What the ritual is when he goes to bed What words does he know What is his favorite thing to do Is he a wood chewer Does he like water/a bath How he is use to being stepped up Is he a shoulder sitter Is he a biter
  11. Hi Spiersy. Looking forward to learning more about your grey and you. I agree with you, clipping is a sad thing to do to a grey. My parrots are micro-chipped, a sure way of identifying my gang. I so love to watch them fly around my home and hear them coming down the hall. The flap of wings in a beautiful sound. Welcome to the Grey family!
  12. Birdhouse if you will look on your profile information you will see the date you joined. Piece of cake to remember. Thank you all for the great posts. I will try to get some pictures up of my gang, Talon.
  13. That's it, today I have been a member to the Greyforums for....... 5 years! I want to thank all the members who have helped me through the years. Dave007 (aka Dr. Flock) was the very first person who helped me, Oh yes, Mr. Growly Bear. I will never forget how kind, helpful and informative he was to me. So welcome that first day. My parrots have survived because of his help, I am sure. JudyGram was the second, Judy always there with good advice and friendliness. A true Grande Dame of the GreyForums. And Talon (The Boss) how do you do it, to keep us all in line with such strength and straight forwardness. Can't forget Dan (Professor) I believe he can find the answer to just about anything. There are of course others ( I have listed only those who were here my first day that left a mark on my soul), some of whom have left CeasarsDad/Fairy) and some who are lurking around with their great knowledge to share when needed. I salute each of you and I thank you for letting me join in the fun of learning and sharing with you. Hip, hip hooray to at least another 5 years!! Thank you! Janet
  14. I hope the room darkening works for you Talon. My parrots so love to fly and luckily they come to me when I call and love to follow me around so it is a piece of cake to get them back into their bird room and to their cages. Normally birds do not move around in the dark, of course, from what you say, Nilah is a whole different creature. I hope you do not have to break her spirit, but her stubborn will would be okay. Fingers crossed.
  15. Judy is so right. It takes time I am still working on a zon that I have had for about 2 1/2 years. He still will not let me touch him but we have worked out a compromise that works for us.
  16. I personally would not separate the "bonded" pair. If they can't take both then look elsewhere for a single parrot. I worked with human adoptions years ago. In one case there were identical twins that the mother unable to decide which family to let adopt them, decided to separate them and give them to two separate homes, one each. I refused to work on the case as I did not believe in that kind of separation. Fortunately the young lady changed her mind and they went to a sole family together. This is my feeling and belief and I can be a stubborn so and so if I get the chance.
  17. Fortunately, I have never been bitten to the point of drawing blood. I also do not go with the philosophy of "don't show pain" How will your parrot know that you are being hurt if you don't let them know. I do react and say no or stop that or whatever. They understand and like I said I may get a nibble but never a bleeding bite and my parrots do not continue. I do not punish my parrots, I just walk away with a scowl and a frown. Each bird is different you need to find what works for you.
  18. Talon have you tried dimming the lights and darkening the room. I have heavy drapes in my bird room and this works for me with an unruly parrot.
  19. Yes it does seem that Ray has a fetish for poop and a great knowledge. Our own poopologist! (and yes this is a word on the internet dictionary)
  20. Cricket is certainly a sweetheart. I hope you get your photobucket straightened out as Cricket is worth getting to know.
  21. I believe it all depends on your personality and time schedule. Will your living schedule go back to one your "new" grey is use to or will you be too busy to cope with your new companion because of more activities and stress with your move for awhile. Will you be able to have the time and energy for your grey after your move. How quickly will you and your family be able to make your grey comfortable and at home and back to a family routine including your grey. If you are not sure how things will go for you and your family and home, I would wait. If you will be creating a quick and happy routine quickly then go for it.
  22. I did not potty train my parrots. They do have places they go. I have perches and boings throughout my home with the round large plastic flexible flyers that kids use to play in the snow with underneath each perch/boing. These are great for catching poop and in the evenings after I bed the parrots I just clean all the flexible flyers that are stained. Works great at my house.
  23. Talon, you know that my zon, Louie is untouchable. He does fortunately understand me when I am talking to him. If I put his travel cage, a large wire cage, up to the opening of his door he will go in so that I can take him outside or into my car. Perhaps you can more Nilah around in a smaller cage until she understands what it means to go back into her cage. I have never had a problem getting Louie into his cage in the evening as he understands because he watches my two greys go into their cages at night so he complies once they are in their cages. My parrots do understand me when I talk to them. I believe they are very intuitive and Nilah just has your number. You do need to be strong and do what you need to do to get to work on time. The needs of the family outweigh the need of Nilah to be the winner.
  24. Definitely when it is fully weaned for at least a week. My TAG came home at 4 months and my CAG at 5 months. They were both eating normally and my CAG, who is a big guy was eating and snacking on formula at night. I spoon fed him for 2 nights in the evening and then he just stopped. He really didn't need it as I said he was eating normally. I believe the breeder just provided the formula for comfort food as my CAG is somewhat of a "scaredy cat".
  25. I do not know what kind of relationship you have with your grey. Do you let him out of his cage, is he flighted or clipped. I do not give my parrots treats for being good. They get them usually in the evening before bed. I really can't help with the screaming for fortunately mine do not scream constantly. I do talk to them when they call out to me. I do let them out so that they can follow me around my home. They have perches by the windows of my living room and in my kitchen in the corners so that they can see me, away from the stove. They are flock creatures and like to be with the flock. You are your grey's flock now. If you have a stand-up perch that you can take from room to room with you that might help. If you can't have your grey out with you or where he can see you, I would have a radio on for entertainment and sound. Birds do quiet down in the evening so darkening a room can help calm a bird down. Be patient.
