Ahh my Dad named all the male animals on our farm "Joe" and the females were "Sally". Daddy always saw to it that none of his kids were around for the actual butchering or any farm animals.
If you knew me, you would know this was posted in fun. As for your Filipina princess, perhaps she and I are related. As you know..... all Filipinos are related one way or another (smile)!
I find my parrots pretty self reliant. They like to see me and sit on perches throughout my home. They come to me when I call: usually for treats (nuts). My pug, I have had since she was about 4 months old and is now 12 and blind. She has always been my buddy and sits close to me or at my feet all the time. She follows me from room to room. She could care less about my parrots and will leave a room if they start flying around. When Lily, the pug is gone, I hope to get a young German Shepherd that my parrots can learn to trust.
As a polynesian lady I will say: As for balut and dinuguan, don't knock it until you try it!
Have you tried hemp seed. I understand that it has helped birds that pluck stop. There is information on the internet and where to buy sterile hemp seed also on the internet.
Great responds from experienced re-homers. I have both re-homed(a zon) and parrots I have since being weaned (greys). My re-homed zon was 1 1/2 when I got him and lived outside since his male owner could no longer care for him. Louie is a handful and I love him to pieces. My Tag is a sweetheart and very good. My CAG is a brat.. he is selfish and a bully. What I am saying is that each parrot is different regards of being a re-home or purchased from weaning. Their personalities are a roll of the dice.
I have cement perches with heavy plastic ends for some my parrots' perches. My zon who can destroy any wood in 5 seconds can't destroy these. I got them at PetSmart.
Oh so sad Pepper! If you ever get out of that torture chamber, fly on by Pepper. You can see what real abuse is, my Mom is home all the time and we are out sitting on boings, looking out windows and eating fresh pea pods all the time! Yuck, bring on the french fries, please!!!!! I'll be watching for you!!!! Ana Grey
(Great fun Dave, thanks)
My parrots are all flighted and if they are on my shoulder and I do not want them there, I just shoo them off. They get the idea and go sit on the boings and perches close by where they can still see me. You just have to be persistent more then your grey is. If that does not work then put him back in his cage until you get your chores done. I talk to my gang all the time so that I believe they understand what is going on.
If you are saying that this grey will not step up for a stranger, then I would darken the room (birds are usually more mellow in the evening/dark) and gentle towel her and place her in the travel cage. This is a hard one without seeing and knowing the grey. Of course the best way would be for you to visit and get to know this sweet grey. If the present owner could talk and reassure this grey, that would have been a bonus.
I read all the parrot books I can find. I have several. If you were to send me an autographed copy, Dee, guarantee I would read it. To be honest just write it, I will buy and read it no problem. I am also waiting for a book on Dayo, Dan........
I clean my oven when it is warm out and I can have my parrots outside. I also have the fans and such going for awhile before I let my parrots come back in. I suppose it would be okay to have your parrot upstairs if there were NO FUMES at all able to drift upstairs. I for one prefer to have my birds out of the area completely.
I have a zon that I can't touch and he will not step up. He is a biter. I can however get him in and out of his cage without touching him. Their cages are usually their 'safe house' and where there is food and water always. Louie, the zon, will go in and out has I ask because I do not threaten him. So let your grey out. If for some reason he does not go back in all you have to do is turn off the lights and darken the room (close the blinds) you can catch your grey then. They usually do not move around in the dark.
Sterling Gris is forever telling Lily, the pug, to go out: "go potty Lily". Sterling Gris use to bark at the door so I would get up to let Lily out he sounds just like her.
