  1. Hi cheri welcome to you and Buckeye. Looking forward to getting to know both of you. Greyt looking Avatar, by the way!
  2. The cost like everything depends on the area in which you live. The vet will want to make sure the animal is healthy so if your parrot is not a client of the vet it might cost yo for a check-up. My parrots where chipped for $65 each plus a wellness check so for less than $100 in my area. To me well worth my peace of mind.
  3. Great Issac video. He is a very happy guy! Thanks for sharing.
  4. Hi Jill, sounds to me like you are already doing all the right things. It just takes time and patience and you seem to have an abundance so Kudos to you!!!!! I have an amazon that is a little wild and I have been working with him for over a year. He will not let me touch him but he is very smart and follows me throughout my home and will go in and out of his cage on my command, pretty easily as he so wants to please. Each circumstance is different and only you can see how Molly reacts from time to time and it sound like you can read her very well. So just follow your heart and do the things you feel are right and all will be fine. Molly is a very lucky little grey to have found you.
  5. I paid $750 for my CAG and purchased him in Oregon State. I live just across the river in Washington State.
  6. I would guess that your grey is a CAG. However, if you will like at my avatar you can see what my TAG at 4 months looked like.
  7. Okay Dave, if you run, you have my vote!!!!!!
  8. So good to hear from you again Shanlung. You are a well-respected member of this forum and have been missed. Your knowledge is know world-wide and your writings welcome.
  9. Not to worry, he will remember. Talk to him and let him know you will be back. When I go to the store or something, I tell my parrots, "I'll be back, you be good". They repeat this now and they know the meaning, so talk to your grey. He will remember.
  10. I have three parrots and I spray them with Aloe Vera juice and water all the time. They love it. I use a spray bottle I got from the beauty shop/hair dresser which has a fine mist. I spray my birdies with an upward spray never directly in the face (unless they put their face in the way which my CAG loves to do). My birds are never sticky and they enjoy the bathes and have no problem drying off. So I am confused with him still remaining wet. My CAG loves to put the nozzle in his beak and drink the aloe vera. I hope you can work out a compromise with your grey so bathing can become a pleasant experience.
  11. Thanks for sharing. This is an interesting parrot.
  12. My Tag's breeder handfed her babies until they refused formula. My CAG was eating on his own but the breeder was still handfeeding at night. She sent me home with formula and I fed it to my CAG for a week when he then refused it. My TAG 4 1/2 months old when I brought her home. My CAG was 5 months old.
  13. Oh yes, my three are music lovers. My zon loves to sing and my grey has a nice beat going also. Their favorites, music with drum beats.
  14. If you look on the internet, you will see information about hemp seeds helping with plucking. I know of an older ekkie that is eating sterilized hemp seeds now and he is re-growing feathers on his back, neck and chest. Just a thought to look into.
  15. I also give my parrots raw squash and other vegetables. At least once/twice a week all their veggies are raw, carrots, radishes, zucchini squash, etc. They love fresh snap peas. No one cooks for them in the wild.
  16. Hi Jess, just go slowly like you are. I think you already have the hang of things and so instinctively you are taking the right steps. I have a re-homed amazon who belonged to the husband and when the husband became sick the women in the home put the zon outside. They told me he was "wild" when I purchased Louie. I have had Louie for a year and he slowly, very slowly starting to trust me. Louie does not know how to step up so this is a challenge and he is a biter. Time and lots of patience are all I have to work with, well that and a parrot who really wants to belong. I look forward to hearing more about George and seeing how things go for the two of you. I am a great fan of the microchip and my pets are all microchipped. Welcome to the Grey family!
  17. My parrots like to eat with me. If I have a plate of food Ana Grey is right there for her share. Into my plate if I let her. The other two will sit and wait for me to offer food to them.
  18. Hi Kelley and Ravena, welcome to the forum. I am a Washingtonian also from lower Washington State, Portland, Oregon is just over the river from me. Looking forward to hearing more about Ravena!
  19. Hi Jazzifaye only you can decide which grey to get. Which do you want, a 6 month old grey or a 3 year old grey. The older grey if it is a talker will already have some language skills. Not all greys are talkers, so you will have to wait to see of the younger grey is a talker. As for personality, only spending some time with a grey will can give you idea how your grey will react to you.
  20. There is no guarantee that any parrots/birds will like each other or whether they will get along. Who knows why they like one parront over another. I have three, Ana Grey, 3, is my smallest (TAG) and has been with me the longest since she was 4 months old. Louie is a re-homed BF Amazon whom I have had in my home for a year and he is 3 years old. My largest is my 7 1/2 month of CAG, Sterling, he is my most gentle with me anyway. He use to take a lot of gruff from Ana Grey and Louie but has recently become the "bully' . The vet did say when she saw him at 5 months old that he was a "big one" and the other two were in for a rude awakening. She was certain Sterling had to be older until I reminded her to look at his eyes which were a dark black color (sign of a youngster). My two other parrots are learning to give ground to Sterling. So I guess it all depends on what you and your husband are willing to put up with and the adjustments you are willing to make if your greys do not like each other. I am retired so I have all the time in the world to put up with my three rascals. Kudos to you for looking into re-homing a grey.
  21. They get a third of a mini-pumpkin and yes the seeds and all.
  22. Can you have pet greys as breeding greys ?????? And aren't breeding greys usually bonded pairs???
  23. At Halloween time, I get each of my parrots a mini-pumpkin and divide one among them. So each week for 3 weeks, they get raw pumpkin to eat and scatter all over the bird room. Such fun for them, BIG MESS for me!!
  24. Nothing is perfect, we can only do what we can to try to keep our companions safe with us. If implanting my companions, bird or cat/dog with a microchip in anyway helps me get my friends back I will do it. It is true some will not take a found animal to a shelter or a vet, frankly they want to keep the found creature for themselves. Not everyone is honest, but I can only pray that a kindhearted person finds my lost friend. But a microchipped animal is considered a stolen animal if the finder does not try to find the legal owner. And if an animal is taken to a shelter or vet, they will read for a chip without charge. That to me is a blessing!
  25. Yes Dee, it is not a little thing and right now is on sale. I have been looking at this particular aviary for sometime and just can't commit. That's why I have been asking for feedback. Appreciate your comments.
