Hi from Virginia new owner of a rescue CAG
Luvparrots replied to forkeeps's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Kim, a great big howdy to you and CAG Andy! Wow, you have great experience with re-homed parrots. I look forward to hearing how things work out for Andy in your care. Welcome to the Grey family! -
Hi Spookyhurst, I love your pictures. My favorite are TAGs!!!! I have a TAG and a CAG and Ana Grey weighs in at 303g and Sterling Gris is in at 505g. Ana Grey is fearless and is still in charge with the CAG and ZON. She is very swift of flight and the guys lumber like a copter. Looking forward to reading more and hope they work out their differences soon.

Am I the only one that will spend New Year's Eve at home?:-(
Luvparrots replied to Morana's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
Am planning a card playing evening and being warm and snug in beddy bye at midnight. A large toast to my ladies who also will be sipping margaritas this evening!!! Cheers!! -
I too am a Moderator of the Amazon Room with a re-homed BF amazon. Now I see no problem. My zon, Louie, is a handsome and loving young parrot. He and I do have some issues. He belonged to a man who became very ill and his wife and children sold Louie to me. I re-homed Louie he is not a rescue. He and I do have some issues. Louie will not let me touch him, but he has come a long way since I re-homed him 1 year 4 months ago. He now comes to sit on my shoulder and on the back of my chair and he preens my hair with his beak. He loves and trusts me, I just can't touch him but he can touch me. The Amazon Room is where he belongs. He is a wonderful and fun loving zon and soon, I just know it, he will let me touch him. But if not, so what... he is still one of the best things in my life. Right now Louie is sitting on my shoulder biting on a ear and I am saying, "Stop it"! "Take it easy". Sterling is on the other shoulder munching on a nut and Ana Grey is on top my computer screen chewing on the cloth draped there to catch the poo. Three different parrots who have learned to live together in some sort of harmony. Louie is a re-home and needs a little rehabilitation topped with lots of love, patience, intuition, and understanding. But the Amazon Room is his Home Port.

Some of you may remember this...

It is hard to see a grey, or any bird, mistreated. And sometimes you just have to be subtle about your help. If you can, I would go see this friend and try to make up. Perhaps bring some foods and treats that AnnaBella likes as a friendly offering. Subtly change the water with a "looks like >>>>> needs fresh water" and while chatting change the water. When I gave my ekkie to the young man next door, when I see him or his mom, I give them foods I have too much of that I know Sully would like or need, toys my parrots just aren't interested in. Mention eclectus websites that they might be interested in to learn more about ekkies. Little subtle hints to help them with Sully's health. (They are great parronts to Sully and he loves they dearly). I do hope you can find a way to help this little grey. -
As an owner of both a CAG and a TAG, I would bet my money on a Congo. TAGs have bone coloring on their top beak and a maroon or reddish coloring on the tail. CAGs have black beaks and red tails. When CAGs are young the red is tipped with black. Looks like a CAG to me.

I won't watch the video as I can't look at any kind of cruelty. I will say that I have my limits on parrots. Two from breeders and my re-homed amazon. I will not be purchasing anymore for myself personally. EXCEPT, if I accidentally run into a parrot that needs a new home then I will take him/her in.

This is a suggestion. My parrots are not pluckers, but I did re-home an older ekkie who is a chronic plucker. After reading on the internet about how hemp seeds helps plucking birds, I purchased some sterilized hemp seed on the internet and gave it to him. He stopped plucking. I gave the ekkie to the young man next door because of issues with the ekkie and my Ana Grey. The neighbors have continued with the hemp seed, I purchased oodles, and the ekkie is happy and growing back in many feathers, lots of new downy feathers where there were none on his back. My neighbor told a friend that has a cockatoo that plucks about the hemp seed. I understand that the cockatoo has stopped plucking and the owner tells everyone about how her Too uses "medical marijuana" for his condition. LOL!!!! It is something to certainly ask your avian vet about to see what he/she has to say about the use of sterilized hemp seeds to help with plucking. I do know that hemp seed is a part of the commercial canary seed sold to people who have male singing canaries. I believe it certainly is worth looking into.

Grimm looks great! Such a big boy!

Greys are very smart and if we talk to them I truly believe that they try very hard to understand us. You have found what works with Gracie, be happy and don't question your breakthrough too much. Just enjoy! LOL!!!

Oh I love this update. Such good and encouraging news about Barnaby!!! That he is playing with his toys is wonderful and that his vent area is clean is phenomenal. I am happy, happy for Barnaby and Kudos to you Dawl for being a great parront!!!

Awesome Enrichment Blocks!!
Luvparrots replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
I purchased these enrichment blocks, two large, two medium (the store included a small one as a bonus/thank you). My zon loves to chomp wood so he has claimed the one on the living room perch. Of course I filled to large holes with peanut butter which he also enjoyed. -
My daughter helps me with my parrots' nail clipping. I hold, she clips off the tips with nail clippers.

Hi Jeff, my Ana Grey is my 3 1/2 year old TAG that I have since she was almost 4 months old. She is feisty and very self-assured. She does not always want to go back into her cage. I have a technique that works with her. I have her step up, no problem and then place my other hand just over her back, no need to touch. This keeps her from flying off, oh yes my parrots are all fully flighted. She can not fly off or out of my hands even though they are not holding her in, just a slight "cage" with my hands. A few tickles on the head and loving words and she is into her cage, carrier, whatever, no problems. If a Pak O Bird is a problem for Gracie, perhaps a Foldable Bird Carrier would be easier. Your grey can then see out from all sides. It is important for your grey to trust you so you must be certain of your instructions to Gracie. If you aren't confident then she won't be either. You are the parront, she is the learning child/parrot. If you can take Gracie to your classroom without the activity of students a couple of times this might also help to get her adjusted to being in a classroom. Talk to her, I find my parrots to be very attentive and wanting to understand what I want.

This is a wonderful post CLB, congratulations on your accomplishment! Merry Holidays!!!

Oodles of good thoughts and prayers coming Barnaby's way. He is lucky to have found you. Be strong and positive for Barnaby and he will feel your love.
-
Louie already sits on my shoulder, but he then wants to nibble a ear. That is not acceptable so if he continues to nibble, he must get off. Louie likes to touch me with his open beak, this is something I have to still work on.
-
Very nice intro. Looking forward to seeing some pictures so we can put a face to each of the great birdie bios.

Beautiful update. Being patient and loving is such a large key to earning a place in a rehome's heart. Great job, looking forward to more updates!!!
-
I will admit the head shot with Louie sitting so quietly is one that I only tolerate because Louie is new to coming to me on his own. Once he is more comfortable with being near me, he will get shaken off just like my greys are now!!!
-
This makes me heartsick. I hope they are found and are together.
-
My Louie, the BF zon, will be 4 years old 01/01/12. Louie is not much of a screamer or screecher either. About once of week he will screech a little but if I say, "Hey, what's that all about" he stops. I think he just wants to know if I am around and listening. Louie does like music and loves to sing. He carries a reasonably nice tune too. None of my parrots is a dancer though, at least not yet!!

Yup, that's Ana Grey. According to her, I'm her "mountain"! LOL

I just had to show everyone my new Christmas Hat!!! Not too bad a shot (remember I live alone so this photo was taken by me, unseen)! LOL!!! I hope everyone has a joyful Christmas with the people they love!!!
