Hi All From Johannesburg South Africa...
Luvparrots replied to Sacr69's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Welcome Sacr69, your new baby sound very smart and wanting to learn. Enjoy your talented little Spartan. I have a 10 month old CAG that barks, whistles, coughs and makes lots of mumbling noises. So yes you have a happy little guy there and I look forward to see some pictures and watching him grow with you. Enjoy! -
Thanks Wingy. I just watched the show and it was great!!!! Thanks oodles!!

I have the channel listed for the show on my tv provider schedules but when I tried to find it on my tv, I couldn't find it. Looked thur Saturday and not there. darn!!! bummer!!
-
I have tried nutri-berries, the ones with veggies in them with my little flock. My guys do not like them at all. What a waste of money for me!!!!

Hi rubys-mum, I love your avatar what a cutie you have there. I commend you for researching before becoming a grey parront so ask away and we will help anyway we can. Welcome to the Greyforums!
-
Arlene, I think you should give this poor grey a chance. Times are tough and if this family needs money for their family/children well they might be desperate and this grey is their only source of "money." That is certainly not the grey's fault and this family needs a break. So focus on meeting this grey with an open mind and see if the grey might fit in your family. Good luck to you and this grey who needs to be loved.

Please Help! Having problems with my grey
Luvparrots replied to vicky022389's topic in The GREY Lounge
Hi Vicky, first of all, you will have to relax and just give your new friend some time to get use to her new surroundings. Talk quietly to her and just relax and let her get use to where she is and having you around. Offer her treats and let her come to you. What is your new companion's name? -
If talking to her and letting her know that you have to go and will be back soon doesn't work, you might try luring her in with a treat she likes. Just let her know you have the goody and place in her bowl in the cage. See if that works.

Hi Charles, congrats on getting your parrot back into your life. Now, we need details, name, age, and a little background on your little lady.

Well, let's see. Ana Grey, tag, was the first parrot in my home. Came in at 4 months and is now 3 1/2 years old. Then there is Louie, a re-homed BF amazon. Louie tries very hard to do what I ask of him. He so wants to please me. He was 2 1/2 years old when I go him and he is now 4 years old. My third parrot is a 10 month of Cag, Sterling Gris, that I have had since he was 5 months old. Ana Grey weighs in at 305 g; Louie, I don't know because I can't get him to let me weigh him; Sterling Gris weighs in at 505 g. Of the three Ana Grey the smallest is in charge. She is the feisty one, the boldest one and sets the tone for everyone. She has no qualms about pecking at or on the other two if she so wants something they have or to be somewhere they are and she wants them to move. She is the quickest for the three. Ana Grey can be a gentle bird, when I first got Sterling Gris, he was still one a feeding in the evening, more comfort than a need. Ana Grey would quietly sit on my shoulder while I tempted to feed Sterling Gris, she never interfered just watched. When Sterling was finished eating, she ate the remainder. She was patient. Perhaps she knew he was young so she understood he needed me. Now she torments him to no end if she wants what he has. Louie will try to stand his ground with Ana Grey but she always wins because she is fearless and very quick. Sterling Gris tries to hold his ground, he also does a lot of screaming when he is picked on, but then he is still a youngster, more or less. I think both Ana Grey and Louie are kind of getting the idea that Sterling Gris will be the winner one day. After all he is the biggest and will always be the biggest and one day he will not be fearful of them and then they will need to look out and move over. So if there is pecking order in my home, it is #1 me, #2 Ana Grey, #3 Louie and #4 Sterling Gris. For now anyway.

I am always on the lookout for problems with my greys. Perhaps it is because Ana Grey was here first that the other two let her bully them. But my avian vet seems to think that Sterling Gris being the largest will be the boss in the future. He is only 10 months old now. I don't know but I do watch them all closely. Sterling, however, prefers to be alone sometimes. He will leave the room and go to a perch in the kitchen away from Ana Grey and Louie who both prefer to be within my view, or their view of me.

I have a different philosophy with biting. I let my parrots know when they displease me. If one bites, I say "no bites". How are our companions to know if we are displeased if we don't let them know when they misbehave? I don't punish the biter unless he/she continue to bite then I just flip the culprit off my shoulder/arm and let him/her know what for and continue to ignore the culprit until he/she comes around. My re-homed amazon I believe it is learning not to bite as I am consistent in my displeasure.

That is a great looking stand for Talon. I am impressed with your talents and those of your son. I hope Talon now gets to enjoy dinner with you. It's strange how our birds are ranked in a flock. My Ana Grey, the smallest of my flock is the "leader". She terrorizes my zon and cag that are much larger then her. I have to constantly call her out to keep peace with my parrots she is such a bully.

Bernie is a very handsome grey. I look forward to hearing more about is adjustment into his new family!!!!
-
Comparing zons and greys, in my opinion, two different types of parrots. The same as Cags and Tags, two different types of greys. I find my greys to be more "me, me, me" types of companions, introverts if you like. Now my zon is certainly an extrovert. He is very cautious, but then he was rejected by the females in his last home. He does want to be my friend and tries very hard to please me by watching me and following my words very closely. He loves to play and is full of energy. If you want an intelligent and cerebral parrot, get a grey. If you want a parrot that is full of life and keeps you in stitches, an amazon is the parrot for you.

I have never seen this nodding action with my Louie. Thanks for the info Ray.
-
I feed my parrots fresh foods twice a day, morning and evening. There is always parrot food pellets in my parrots' cages at all times. Because I am retired my parrots are out of their cages all day and I have foraging stations for them with perches and food holders. I usually give them fresh snap peas or other veggies and nuts during the day. In other words there is food available all the time.
-
How about posting a video Ray. I would love to see Cricket in action!
-
If you could provide a video of Pancho doing this action it would help to see what you mean.
-
Honestly only my amazon is a real toy player. My greys do not play with their toys all that much. I am retired and home most of the so they are usually in the same room as I am. They do play with the toys in the cages occasionally. It has never bothered me that they like to interacting with me more than toys. As long as they are happy and eating well that's all I care about.
-
I find that my parrots are not any messier than my children when they were little. I had three of them too.
-
I believe the word you are looking for is "on cue".
