  1. Well welcome to the Grey family!!! So where are the pictures of your new baby???? We love to see the pictures!!!
  2. I don't have trouble getting my zon to bed, but I do with Ana Grey. She does not like to go into her cage at night. But she will sit on her cage when I am putting Louie and Sterling to bed. I then just turn off the room light and she steps up nicely and into her cage. Granted in the semi-dark (door is cracked so hall light filters in and I can see) but she goes in nicely. I am not a fan of not reacting when my parrots bite me and it hurts. I speak up and tell them "no" with lots of "owie, owies" . Louie use to bite hard with his beak tip. Now he just latches onto my finger/arm whatever but does not bite down hard enough to hurt. I don't know why he likes to nibble on me. A guy thing I guess. I believe letting them know that when they bite it hurts helps them to know what is right and what is wrong. They do so want to please, at least my gang does. Ana Grey especially reacts to my tone of voice and adjusts her attitude if I am displeased.
  3. Dave007 suggested them to me when I had my mature male ekkie that "loved" me. Louie, my zon, likes to chew on them. He is the real chewer in the flock.
  4. I have three parrots, two I have had since they were weaned by their breeders. I never take my parrots out of their cages. I always let it be their choice. As Shelly stated, you can't rush anything. A grey has to want to be with you.
  5. Too cute. Video would be nice, especially of the "rescue"! Hint, hint.
  6. I haven't used rope toys but I have purchased some rubber dog toys that my parrots like. Like rawhide chews.
  7. I can't whistle very well either. Just a weak lame whistle. I say "woo woo" and my parrots return the call. Use a word/sound they/you like. It will work too.
  8. I have taken my parrots to my daughters in their travel cages. The cages are large enough that my grey and zon can spread their wings. They are just fine as they are use to the cages. They use the cages for spring/summer sunning. My daughter has cats, one is a hunter so I only let my parrots out in my bedroom with the door closed. The few days they are there they are fine as my parrots feel safe and comfortable with me.
  9. Take the peanuts out of his cage and use them for treats. A grey will not starve himself if he is healthy so try some fresh veggies and pellets and other healthy foods. My parrots love fresh snap peas.
  10. Looking forward to your pictures of your new companion. Just relax, talk to your little grey and let him know what you are doing or going to do. Greys are very smart and so want to belong. Enjoy your new friend.
  11. I have three parrots, two greys I have had since they were weaned and my Louie, the BF Amazon. He belonged to a man who spoke Hindu, as did his whole family, so Louie came to me speaking Hindu. When the man because ill with cancer, Louie was placed outside with their breeding greys. The wife called him "wild." Louie does not let me touch him, if I try he bites. He does not know how to step up. Louie has been with me for one year and 4 months. He will now fly to sit near me and sit on my shoulder. He loves to preen my hair. He can touch me, but I can't touch him. He was a man's parrot, he likes my 22 year old grandson and now will fly to Tony and sit on his shoulder. Louie is trying to be my friend, he will go into his cage on command and follows me around my home. As long as I don't try to touch him he is happy. He will now take food from my hand without biting. It is a long and slow ride to where we are now, and I know he wants to trust me and is trying hard to do so, it just takes time. I love Louie, he is smart and a total joy to have around. He is learning English but still at least once a day, lets out a string of Hindu which I do not understand. Is he a rescue??? I don't know. To me he is just a guy trying to live in a woman's world!!! This is a great thread Dawl, thanks for starting it!!! Kudos to you for taking in and caring for your sweet rescues!!!
  12. No Louie did not land on the camera. He went over head and into the kitchen. Louie has never been clipped and is a joy to watch in flight!
  13. Very interesting thread. My fids like music with a beat. I certainly enjoyed Emma's vocabulary. Such a knowledgeable lady!!!
  14. Sounds like your fids really missed you today. So sorry about Smokey, its hard when a trusted friend leaves us.
  15. Ha, ha, Talon, Louie is not a tosser. He is a shredder and if he can't shred it, eat it or swing it around, it has no worth to him!!!!
  16. Hi Alan to you and Mollie. If you have any pictures of your parrots, we would love to see them. Looking forward to hearing more about your fids, welcome to the Grey family!!
  17. Today is Louie's 4th Hatch Day! He was hatch sometime in January so today is as good a day as any January day! Louie has been with me since September 1, 2010. Louie belonged to a gentleman who became ill and because he did not get along with the wife, he was moved outdoors and then sold to me by the wife. She called him "wild". I think he is marvelous and I totally love him! So Happy Hatchday Big Guy!!!!
  18. Perhaps I should post a video of Ana Grey testing Newton's theory of gravity. She can send more things off the top of a refrigerator in five seconds than any grey!!! Good thing about it, I have the cleanest refrigerator top in North America!!!
  19. Happy Hatchday Rikki!!! And we all know Mommy loves you!!!! Have a great New Year!
  20. Love the new pictures of Grimm! Soon very soon your baby will come home!!
  21. My home is 69/70 all the time. When I step up my greys I also notice that their feet are cool, not cold or hot. They are fine. I would think if AnnaBella was cold she would fluff up a bit.
  22. Happy Hatchday AnnaBella and many, many, many, many more!!!!!
  23. If at first you don't succeed.......... I enjoyed the videos but I might have made a big mistaken..... I let Ana Grey watch while sitting on my shoulder. It was the "uh-huh" that let me know she was enjoying the show too much!!!!! LOL!!!
