I hope you find a good home for Lucy. She looks like a sweetheart.

When I re-homed an older male ekkie, he was unflighted. He had not flown for 7 1/2 years when I re-homed him. I would let him out of his cage, and had a wooden ladder that he would climb up on to get back in when he wanted. I also hung knotted ropes in my home so he could climb up where he wanted in the places I wanted him to climb. A ladder or knotted rope might help Buddy get around more on his own.

My three always watch me when I talk to them. Their eyes say so much. I love it when Louie the zon's eyes are laughing. Our parrots have such expressions if you just care to look. Snoepgoed, you will be amazed at how much Archimedes wants to learn. Greys are marvelous and so want to please.
-
Ray, I have only read things about the Hot 3 in the link sited.
-
That certainly is interesting. Sam is lucky to have found you! Congrats on his talking!
-
Too cute!!!! I love to see them hanging upside down too!! What kind of dog do you have?
-
Oh Chili Pepper is quite handsome!!! Thanks for sharing him with us!!!
-
Ahh yes, my Louie is considered a Hot 3 also. And he is a biter. But I will just learn to read him and watch for signs, perhaps he will be a more calm guy. Not all Blue Fronts, Yellow Nape and Double-Yellow Head male zons are aggressive when they are hormonal, we will just have to see. I totally love this re-homed big guy. He listens so intently when I talk to him and tries so hard to please me. I would not trade him for the world and I consider myself lucky to be his friend. Louie is now 4 and I understand he can become hormonal sometime between the age of 5-12 years. So we will see. http://www.parrothouse.com/wrongwithamazons.html

Amy, my kids are all in the 40s so I have no babies but I do have young grandsons. The youngest is just 2 1/2 years so I have watched him with my parrots flying around. Ana Grey my oldest grey is very jealous but for some reasons understands babies. When I first started babysitting my grandson I was very leery of Ana Grey's reaction. I talked to Ana Grey and told her Dino was special (he was born 3 months premature) so she needed to be very nice. When I would feed Dino his formula, Ana Grey would quietly sit on the back of my rocker and watch. Not a sound not any threatening action. She just watched and listened. It was quite interesting to watch her reaction and her understanding. When I got my second grey, Sterling's breeder gave me instructions on offering Sterling formula in the evenings just in case he needed it. I had a talk with Ana Grey about not bothering Sterling while I fed him. Ana Grey, who is always close to me, watched me intently and I carefully watched her as she is not a fan of competition for my attention. I was nicely surprised when Ana Grey quietly sat on my shoulder as I spoon fed Sterling his night time formula. Not a peep, when I was finished (Sterling really didn't care for the formula) I would give Ana Grey spoonfuls of the formula and she was delighted. What I mean to tell you is that my aggressive Ana Grey and she is aggressive and fearless, is a totally different parrot when it comes to babies and young pets. I truly believe that greys are very intuitive and really want to please their parronts. If you talk to them and really let them know what you expect and want, our greys do their darnedest to please. So when you do decide to have human babies, just make sure you give quality time to both the human child and your grey and all will be fine. Greys can adjust, you just need to talk to them and show them what you want. They are intuitive but they can't read your mind.

I have laminated wood floors throughout my home, except the bathrooms are tiled. Before I got my first parrot, I knew I wanted her flighted and to have full access to the house so carpet had to go. My three parrots have perches and swings in the corners and in front of windows throughout my home so the poo is normally contained in designated spots. Quick and easy clean up, as I am not a fan of poo!

Oh goodness, call her Roxie is you want and change her cage. New life, new home, new name, all is good for such a young grey. I believe it is when parronts make a big deal out of change that greys get leery. My greys just go with the flow because I do. Be relaxed and so will Roxie! Pictures please as soon as you can!!

A-plus to Nilah and her adventure on the new ladder!! What a great looking ladder to keep her and the others occupied. I must give making a ladder a try! Wonderful video!
-
Very nice!!! I am jealous of your talent Penny. Perhaps I too will give this ladder a shot! Love it!!!

Hi Amy, now you are the "type" of people I like to see! You have started your research before becoming a grey parront! Hooray. You are going to be a great grey parront! When I first came to the Grey Forums, I had never even touched a parrot and knew nothing about them except I wanted one. Dave007 was the first member here that I "met" and I have learned oodles from him and all the experienced members here. No question is "stupid". It was three months before my grey was weaned and I absorbed all the information I could here and felt quite comfortable when Ana Grey first came home 3 1/2 years ago. As for stupid questions I remember one of mine. "How much gravel was necessary for a grey?" I believe was my question. Did anyone laugh or harass me no! For that I am grateful as I sure needed some help!!! So ask away and I can't wait to see your grey!
-
Hooray, I am so excited for you and especially for Buddy! It certainly sounds like you and your hubby are becoming the parronts that Buddy will thrive with. Congratulations on your progress!! Go Buddy!!! Can't wait to hear more!!!!

I have swings in all my parrots cages and only my CAG sits on his and swings. I have boings throughout my home and all my parrots love them to pieces. Great investment for your parrot.
-
Ahhhh, Dave, no comment!!!! LOL!!!

I am not a fan of CDs. I believe our feather friends really want to be part of the family so I find mine watch me intently and try very hard to understand what I want and what I am saying. They pick up what they like. I have tried for three years to get my parrots to say, "Hello gorgeous" and not a peep. Stubbed my toe and let out a painful "Oh Sh..! and it was immediately part of my grey's vocabulary no problem! As for talking, there is no set time table. Whatever will be will be. So relax, talk to your baby and enjoy!
-
You should post your questions in the Nursery Room as Dave 007 is the moderator there and as you can see has excellent advice!
-
Hi Jocko, oh yes we love to hear about our re-homed friends. Welcome to the Grey family!
-
My three parrots do this all the time. When I come in to feed them in the morning or to see them, they drop their wings and start talking and moving around. They are happy to see me for their breakfast or just to get out of their cages. They are all rather young, 10 months to 4 years in age, so sex has nothing to do with this. There is nothing wrong with your baby, just happiness/excitement. I believe there is a body language thread in the Health Room that answers lots of questions about greys' body language.

Simon looks quite content with his new digs! To be honest, I find that the our fids more or less roll with the punches and its us the parronts who get all hyped up over change and then pass that feeling on to our parrots. Food for thought.
-
Hi Clarhe, congrats on the new baby!! You are certainly in luck because Dave007, the moderator of the Nursery Room, knows all about baby greys! I can't wait to hear more about your new companion and see some pictures (hint, hint)! Welcome to the Grey Family!!

Yes how true Penny. I too know that my birds will also outlive me. I am 65 old and my older parrot just turned 4 years old. I have promised my oldest daughter that I will be looking for new parronts for each of my parrots, as my children are not bird people. My daughter has promised to find them all good homes and to give them away rather than sell them. She is like me, pets are special and re-homing is not for profit. I am still hoping that a grandchild or three will want to have my birdies in the future. I'm not going anywhere for now!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Hey Penny, the boing is far enough away from the picture that Louie has to really swing hard to touch the frame. It is also glass framed and quite heavy. Louie has tilted the picture so I have to watch him very closely. I may have to move the picture if Louie doesn't soon tire of touching it. The netting in front of the window has now been removed because Sterling was biting my venetian blinds all to pieces. I had a half covering over the top of the window to keep Sterling from chomping them to pieces but he kept taking it down (darn those strong beaks) so I abandoned the half curtain and just took the net down. I have three boings in the office so every birdie is happy swinging away. I can't really take too much credit for Louie's new lease on life because it is still all on his terms. He is actually getting over-confident and now procrastinates when it is time to get into his cage. We now have a small "Nilah" battle at bedtime!!! (quit smirking Penny!!!!) Also now if I flick my shoulder to get Louie off when he nibbles my ear, he just digs in with his claws and holds on tight. Louie has become much more confident. So we will see what happens on Louie's journey. Whatever happens, he is so worth all the time and effort it takes to be his friend.
