    Exciting

This really is a breakthrough. I am so pleased. If he is feeding from your hand that must mean he is starting to trust you. Keep doing what you are as its working.Just one word of advice, be carefull of allowing the grey close to your cockatiels, if he bit one it would be a disaster. I am so glad you have come so far in a short time. Keep up the good work and keep in touch. You have done so well, earning a greys trust is not easy but you are doing it. 9. I agree with Dan. If possible use the larger cage and let him come out on his own.
  10. I am so excited for you.Its Sunday evening hear so I guess you are besides yourself.I think it is fantastic you dont have to wait any longer. As far as the vet is concerned I always think sooner the better, but he has seen a vet, so if you can quarantine him properley, you could leave it a week or so.I always feel quarantine is very hard in the same house as some illneses are air born so if birds are in the same air space it is useless.I realise you can tell very little from photos bit Gizmo did not look bad at all. My advice is get him home and see how settled he is and then decide how fast to see a vet. Sheila
  11. Charlie hates new things. It takes me weeks to get him to accept them. I usually just leave it hanging round for a few days then I play with it and eventually I can hang a new toy on the outside bottom of his cage. I can then gradually move it up the cage untill he beaks it through the bars. Then it is safe to put in his cage. Greys are well known for their hate of allthings new.
  12. She is so beautifull. I always have a longing to get a baby myself when I see cuties like her. Now the fun begins. Sheila
  13. Thats fantastic news Heather.I knew once you found a baby it would be hard to resist. I really hope you make the final plunge, dont forget you will get lots of guidance hear.Sheila

    help please

My grey preferes to come out on his own He is perfectly fine but it is clear he does not like to step up inside his cage.I do now and again insist he does purely incase a need arrises where I need to get him fast. On those occasions I use a short stick incase he bites, but really it seems like he is just playing and enjoying attention. He will step up but grabs the bars with his beak or one foot as if to say ok I will step up but you are not taking me out. When he is in the aviery he grabs the wire and I quite litrally have to prise him off one foot at a time. It is a very common problem. He steps up no problem anywhere else.
  15. Yes Please I love yapping about my grey Charlie and tiel Cracker. I would never allow them to have any sort of contact with each other.Cracker would be history if Charlie got at him. Funny enough it is the tiel who insists on going to Charlie. Mind you he is a butty short of a picknick.I have an aviery outside in the garden where one of them can go to in the summer, the winter is another matter. I have had to make the decision to have Cracker clipped for his own safety. He can still fly, actually quite well but it gives me the oportunity to get him out of his cage till the spring and he can go to the aviery for a few hours during the day. My vet who is usually against clipping had no reservations when I explained the situation. So my advise is keep them well away from each other. My two are caged in the same room and do chatter to each other,so are company for each other in that way. Sheila
  16. I too would begin the step up process from the begining.I do not know why you were told to use a smaller cage.I always believe the bigger the better. I got a new cage for Charlie not so long ago and he did take a while to get totally at ease.It is slightly larger than his old one and I find it easier to get him to step up in the larger cage.More room for me to manover round.
  17. My grey has a split ring on his left leg.I was told he was seven months old when I got him 5 years ago.The ring has no date but ends with uk .I was told he was hand reared.I do not know for sure though he is very tame and loves my company.I would love to learn more about his past but I love him anyway.Even if your grey is a bit older, dont worry. For all I know charlie could be imported.I am so glad I ended up with such a fantastic companion. If you decide to find out more let us know the outcome. In the mean time love the Bell you have. Also if anyone knows how I can trace Charlies ring hear in the uk please let me know. Sheila
  18. I remember the post well. You are really doing very well.Gatiep is lucky to have you as an owner.Mistakes happen, the trick is to learn from them and you certainly have. I am so pleased for you and glad you are back with us.You are doing a great job and have obviousely put a lot of time and effort for your grey. Keep us informed. Sheila
  19. You have shown commitment to a dificult dog,so I feel you have the right attitude. It is very wise to think and learn all you can before taking the step to owning a grey or any pet. I believe you have a fantastic attitude and this will go a long way. Please let us all know what your decision is . Sheila
  20. Hello Heather.I wish you luck on your serch or not for a parrot. My advise is to read up all you can and think long and hard of the pros and cons. They are a hugh comitment. I hope this forum helps you come to the right decision for you and your family.Ask all questions you want. Sheila

    nutri puffs

Has anyone fed theit grey nutri puffs. They are a treat given aswell as a normal diet. I am curious as my grey Charlie goes really hyper and nasty when given them. I do not feed him them now.I experimented by not giving them for a while and then feeding them. This hyper behaviour resumed.when he was given them again.
  22. Wow another Grey called Charlie.Jimmy is a name that fits a grey . Your charlie is a similar age to my Charlie. Keep us up to date Charmain.
  23. My birds have had no vaccinations. I did ask my vet a while back and he also said no.
  24. I am glad Gryphon is settled in and the vet visit went well. He sure likes his toys.Sheila
