1. Hello Di. I dont think Monty is too bad at all.As Dan pointed out the weight can fluctuate. Parrot fever can be passed to humans but I would not worry, I really dont think Monty is that ill.Infact I think he is a normal happy grey. It is good your vet is checking things out for you though. Blood tests will put your mind at rest.My grey was tested for parrot fever a few years back when he was off colour and very listless. Results came back negative but he did have an infection of sorts,we never found the cause of infection but a few weeks antibiotics and tlc soon had him on his feet again.I feel a parrot with parrot fever would show far more signs of illness than Monty.Charlie my grey will also some days eat very little, but other days eats like a horse. Let us know what the vet comes up with. Sheila

Need Advice

I think the easiest way to get a bird tollerent of bathing is to use a sprey bottle.Set it so a fine mist of water comes down on him. He may not like it at first but if you do it often enough he will accept it. He may fuss at first but keep at it.My two love to stand in the sink and I sprey them there. Neither of them have ever objected to bathing so I am lucky ,its one problem I dont have.Good luck.
3. Thats good that he did not object too much to a misting. I would do it each day now, so it becomes part of the routine. I think the biting will stop once he is more settled.Just take it at his pace.

Sick Parott

I am sorry things were so tough on you all. It can be so hard to let a loved pet go.You made the right choice and it is the kindest act of love . my thoughts are with you. Sheila
5. Sassy is a great bird. You seem to be getting on very well.Take it easy with her,she has had a few changes and has another one coming up. Change is never easy on a grey, although she seems to be taking it all in her stride.I bet you get one for yourself once sassy goes to your mum, if indeed you manage to part with her. Good luck. Sheila
6. Hi Julie, welcome to our little feathered family. I think you got the best advise available from Baxtersmom, she has hands on experiance of your two species and I to am sure things will be fine.Keep us all informed how things go on.Sheila
7. Thanks for the update.I hope you get to the bottom of this.My thoughts are with you.
8. Just go at his pace and let him decide. Try a sprey bottle, you may be surprised. If he shows any fear just back off.He may love the water, never know till you try. Sheila
9. It makes you feel all warm inside when something like that happens. You are fantastic with those birds.
10. I just love those pictures.I had to take my curtain pole down because Charlie kept doing exactly the same thing. I only have blinds up now.Things we do for parrots.
11. Welcome Michelle. I hope you like it hear as much as I do. Sheila
12. I am so sorry to hear this. It does sound to me as if some sort of fumes or poison has affected the two birds. Any Teflon pans, air freshners, new carpet, new gas appliance, self clean program on a cooker. All these and more can really affect birds to the extent of death.Have you used new bedding in the cages, try thinking of anything that could be detrimental to the bird. In cases like this it is obvious something has gone very wrong. If neither of the birds have been ill these are the usual causes.Just think of anything new.Sheila
13. I am glad you and Gizmo got home ok.I am sure a good nights sleep will have helped both of you.
14. With all that land the dogs must be thrilled. I too would have a house full of pets if I could.
15. Oh I am so very sorry. I cant believe I just read this. You must be devistated. It sure sounds like your assumptions are right. I wish I could help in some way.We are all hear for you so dont dissappear.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/10/28 00:25
16. I use a bird disinfectant.I find the trick is to do the cages daily I find it does not become a hugh job then. Once a week I totally strip down the cages and give a thouough clean.

Exciting

Wow,thats the favourite game of most greys,I cant believe the transformation. He is playing with you. I am so so pleased. Sheila
18. That is good news. I am glad the bird mart worked for you. I too would love to hear what info you got on Kiko. She appears to have been kept in a home environment, judging by her response to the phone. Did you get any medical history.Try and post some photos, I would love to see her.
19. Sierra looks so happy and already talking, fantastic.
20. As for what else you can do to convince mum you are determined to keep smokey, I can only sugest as I say buying his feed and proving to mum that you are doing all you can to find your own place that will take him. Are you working? if not do all you can to find work, any work ,all will show mum you are trying your best. Good luck.
21. Any news yet pat.I am besides myself.
22. Chloe is a clever girl, stepping up already.Keep trying with the pellets. Charlie took to them very easily but the cockatiel will only eat a few so has seed and pellets.
23. I am sorry you are finding yourself in this situation. The only thing I can sugest is to let your mum read this post so she realises how much you wish to keep Smokey. Try and explain that at your age its hard making the transition into adulthood and you are not abandoning Smokey, just leaving him in a stable home utill you are in a position to resume full responsibility yourself.Tell mum you will visit all the time and still clean and buy food for Smokey. I hope you find a solution.Sheila
24. Pumpkin sounds adorable. I am so happy for you.
