Hello and welcome.Hope you like it hear. Lots of help and advise available.Look through the threads and I am sure you will learn and have a laugh at the same time. Sheila
Good news,I am so glad. I also do shift work and arrive home at about 9.30pm when I am on lates so I let Charlie out for about an hour when I get in. He seems fine with that. He is out of a morning before I leave for work but I like letting him have a bit of out of cage time when I get in.I know greys like their sleep but its a ballance between sleep and attention.I am sure you will work it out. Sheila
I am not up on breading so cant comment on the deficiency being because the bird is the last born, but I think thats unlikely.I would have your own vet check the bird out.You can give calcium drops but good diet should help. The drops are not expensive but I would want to know for sure if and why the bird has this deficiency.
I hate fireworks. They can really stress animals out.My grey Charlie is not too bad and the tiel does not even flinch.I always make sure to close blinds and have the tv on a bit louder than normal.I know a person who has to get a tranquelizer for her dog,she gets so upset. I think they should only be allowed in organised displays. How must wild animals and birds feel. The kids round hear get them from shops which I feel should be banned.I too hate it when they start off weeks before.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/10/13 21:20
Wow this is a hard one.Its a case of following your head or your heart.Calcium deficiency I believe is quite common in greys. I feel the major cause is a bad diet. How do you know this bird has calcium deficiency? has he had blood tests? Is he on any suplements?what is his diet like? how old is he? these are questions you need to ask. At its worse calcium deficiency can cause seisures and death, but this is the worse senario. Most likely as I say it can be corrected by the right diet.My advise would be to find out more about the birds health and read all you can about calcium deficiency.Maybe a full vet check with blood work would be advisable before going ahead with a purchase. This bird may have other health issues. Hope this helps. Sheila
Hi Margieb Welcome to greysforum. I so hope you and the little fellas breader come to some arangement. You have already helped Joey so know the routine. I think you would be the perfect family for the baby grey. Please let us all know how you get on and I would love to see Joey
I live in Liverpool uk and was stunned when we had an earthquake earlier in the year.I was woken up at 12 50 am by my grey and tiel thrashing around. I got up and went down stairs to calm them. As I got to the cage of my grey I heared what I thought then was either thunder or a large waggon. Strange. I suddenly felt the floor move and thought I had jumped up too quickly. I eventually calmed the birds and checked them over, thankfully they were fine. I went back to bed . I put the news on the next morning and found out we had been hit by an earthquake.I realised then what had been the cause of the nights disturbance.I am not surprised the birds detected this before me.Being from Liverpool the jokes that got text around everyone were hillarious. It is not funny though to people who live in areas were earthquakes are a real threat.I feel so fortunate I am not one of those people.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/10/13 20:18
Parrots are like people, some are more tactile than others. I am of the oppinion that if my birds want a head scratch or cuddle thats fine but I will not push the issue with them. Its up to them. Some days my grey is very cuddly and friendly other days he does not want to know. I respect that and feel he respects me more because of this..sheila
I think the fluffing you are discribing means you bird is as you say irritated. It can be a sign of agression so be very carefull to keep the tiel well away. I have a tiel and a grey and the grey would have the tiel for lunch if given the chance. Let them out one at a time and always supervise.Sheila
Hello welcome to the forum. I love it hear and I am sure you will.We love pictures and stories. My friends just dont get birds at all, they cant understand why all my time and resorces goes to my two birds, welcome to the club.
Never mind Pat. we have all been there. Could have been for any number of reasons as I am sure you know. Charlie can sometimes bite for no obvious reason to me, thankfully its very rare and has not become an issue. I am sure Tyco will get back to normal soon. Sheila
So lucky,Berna. I got some fantastic photos of lions in Kenya. Never got to hold one though, didnt think they would like that too much, they were too interested in the zebra and wildebeast and I didnt want them to get interested in me.Hope you have fun.
