1. I love the videos Pat.The new camera sounds great.
2. I am so proud of the people who have responded to this.So many strong people who I am honored to call friends. It has taken a lot for people to share very personal experiences to help Deb make her decisions.I am in awe of you all. Lots of love Sheila
3. A bird room is a great idea Pat.It could solve a lot of problems.
4. Well if anyone is wondering, Sunny has been found but sadley not alive.
5. Well I can only speak as I find. I have had Carlie over 6 years and Greg Glendell has given me some great advise over the years. Also I have spoken to him on the phone and he has given his advise free of charge. He advised me to get the aviary and gave me tips on flight training, persuading me to keep my birds flighted and giving me the knowledge to do so in as safe a way possable.I think as Greywings has said it is the fat content in the blood that is the concern.Even our flighted captive birds are couch potatoes compaired to wild parrots and need a diet that reflects that.I think that is the concern with palm nuts.I do feed palm nuts but not all the time.
6. A sun conure called Sunny has gone missing in the Seaford area of Adelaide South Australia. He belongs to Joe plant one of the administrators on the facebook page pet cockatiels and other birds. If any one is in that area and comes across Sunny could you please pm me.
7. All I can advise is do as much reading up on greys as you can and find out as much information as you can. They are a massive commitment and not one to be taken lightly. Is your lifestyle such that you can give constant care and attention? You mention travelling for a month or so at a time,is this the right time for you to bring a grey in to your life? You say your wife will do most of the bonding but one word of warning,it will be the grey who chooses who he/she will bond with.I dont want to sound negative but I just want you to make sure it is right for you and the bird. They are all individual and how they react to another pet cant be predicted, some will accept a dog some wont. Some have great fun calling a dog in your voice and tormenting it lol. I guess the best time to introduce another pet to a grey is when they are very young. Best wishes sheila
8. I would only clip wings under very special circumstances. Both my birds are fully flighted.
9. Hear is a pic of Charlie and Cracker having breakfast on their stand.I do not advocate anyone letting birds of such differing sizes so close but these two have become friends over the last two years, but still they are very closely supervised and never left alone for a second.

Post edited by: she, at: 2010/01/11 13:24
10. I am so please everything is ok.
11. What a heart warming story.Charlie is a trooper and you also for sticking to you goal of bringing him home with you. This brings to mind, with Charlie being wild caught the saying "You remain responsable forever for that which you tame" You have lived up to this saying .Thank you for posting this.

Post edited by: she, at: 2010/01/11 13:01
12. I have given Charlie a walnut but he has never managed to open it.He just plays with it for a bit. He loves walnuts though so maybe he is just lazy.
13. I will put another slant on this topic.Could you prove it is your grey.Just say it got stolen or escaped and someone took it in but would not relinquish ownership.I am a great fan of micro chipping for just these reasons.
14. I would not use any candles at home. The same goes for many other house hold products .As has been said a birds respiratory system is very sensitive.
15. I too would say a vet visit is needed to have this checked out.
16. Is he really eating the paper? if so if your cage has a grill to prevent him getting on the bottom use it.I dont use a grill in my cage but If your grey is really eating the paper I would recomend it.
17. Thats great Lynn.Alfie knows what side her bread is buttered.
18. Alfie is a very brave girl. Charlie would flip his lid lol
19. Julie the tap was lagged, still froze.
20. I have been and got shopping in this morning. The main roads are ok if you take care but it is getting on to them that is the problem.I got two bags of salt yesterday at £8 each and have managed to move the car from the drive. What a rip off for the salt though. I had a burst yesterday after noon on the garden tap.I noticed the water pressure had gone low in the house and a bit later on I went out to the garden and noticed the pipe gushing water all over the place. My brother in law came all the way from Ainsdale and sorted it for me.It is about a 30 mile round trip so I am really greatful to him.
21. I am so sorry to hear about your father.Contact the fish and wildlife service, they will I hope be able to sort things out.I am not sure about the quarantine requirement but this may be needed.Best wishes Sheila
22. Thanks for this Julie I was just going to post it on hear. I really hope the little thing gets taken in or found fast. It is way too cold.
23. My birds dont get 12 hours un interupted sleep. They are very aware if I get up during the night, sometimes they have a little flutter, other times the grey will say hello. The tiel will just give a little squeek. They seem to know when I just get up for a few mins or when I am up for the day. When I get up for the day the response is a lot more vocal.

Rant

When people talk to me about my grey I always tell them just how messy and how much hard work is involved. I know for a fact I have put people off getting a parrot and I am ok with that. I also tell them how expensive they can be and about vet bills. I would rather do this than be responsable for someone getting a parrot and then finding out the truth. It is only the bird who suffers in the long run.
25. Alfie is a right clown. It is so funny when they know exactly what you want and just did the heels in lol.
