Hi Jooles, part of the problem and why there are sudden unexplained deaths in birds (not just greys in particular) is because birds are experts in hiding signs of weakness or disease. They are prey animals and in the wild, a bird that appears weak is an instant target for predators. This is why they recommend weighing your parrot regularly and watching for any major weight loss. Losing weight isn't something they can hide.
Hey KC, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have quite a wonderful flock and I'm so happy that you are a rescuer of animals.
Since birds are such intelligent creatures they need a proper environment and mental stimulation to florish. It sounds like Kazoo may have some psychological issues due to being kept in too small a cage- probably without the stimulation and diet she needed to stay healthy. I'd recommend a visit with a certified avian vet to check for any physical damage and perhaps they can recommend ways to deal with her psychological issues as well. In the meantime, just give her lots of love and patience and keep working on improving her diet. Are you able to handle her at all?
Perhaps he's feeling resentment or jealousy?? You might try moving the plant to a different room- maybe he likes the excitement of you getting him off of it. I used to have tiels and they can get resentful if they don't feel they are getting the amount of attention they are used to. Try giving him more one-on-one time- if you have to, take him to a different room he's not used to. Keep patient and don't give up.
Are her wings clipped? I was just wondering why she doesn't just fly where she wants to go. Maybe she hasn't fledged yet I guess but it should be soon...
You think this is challenging, just wait til 1 1/2 yrs old or so when they start the terrible two's!!
As far as throwing her toys on the floor- I thought that was just one of their favorite games to play- how many times will mom pick this up if I drop it? Mine think that game is BIG FUN!
Hi Carol--Hee hee, I'm honored you liked Lyric's name enough to consider it for your own baby, don't worry- I wouldn't mind if you had a Lyric too.
I also like Ahjari, that's real pretty- do you know the meaning?
Cute! I'm glad Tyco and Gizmo have become friends. Do any of your birds absolutely NOT get along with any others? I'm still trying to get Lyric (2 1/2 year old TAG) and Sadie Grey (5 month old TAG) to get along. As long as one of them is inside a cage it goes okay but I can't have them both out together or Sadie chases Lyric and scares him greatly. I don't know what to do about it besides clipping Sadie's wings so she couldn't chase him but I don't want to do that to her because she so loves flying! It's a dilemna for me.
It's really neat hearing what other people's greys have learned. I know my Lyric (2 1/2 yr old TAG) is smart but he chooses not to talk. I wonder what he would have to say if he decided to share it with the world? Keep us updated on your birds' progress!
Hi Kenz and welcome to the forum! You can certainly learn a lot about greys on this site and also have lots of fun. I look forward to hearing more about Bonek!
Hi Josh, welcome to the forum! It's just great you were able to give Weasel a new start in life, and it sounds like you've come a long way with her already.
Welcome to the forum! Your grey is lovely. As Pat mentioned, you can have your grey's nail's clipped by a vet, or get some pedi-perches for your bird to sit on- they really help and work pretty quickly if used often by the bird.
Hi Birdyperson, welcome here! I look forward to hearing more about your big flock! Do you rescue birds? Do your greys all get along with each other? Hope you like it here!
Hi Azzie, and welcome to the forum! I can't wait to hear more about Cleo, Kip and Sam! Lories are such beautiful birds- and of course greys are the best parrots ever!
