What wonderful pics of everyone's sleepy fids- I love them and now I feel like I need a little catnap myself! zzzzzz zzzzzzz:lol:
-
What a beauty you have there. Does she scream a lot? I hope you find that the two birds get along well with each other. Congratulations on adding Sille to your family.
-
Congratulations! Now you just have to keep yourself from falling head-over-heels in love with all those babies you'll be handfeeding. You have your work cut out for you! I know you'll enjoy it though...

These vacations (which are supposed to be a time of relaxation and fun for us!) can turn out to be a real headache by the time we get done worrying and planning for our fids. I suggest you leave him in his bigger cage- he may get less sleep but that way he'll be safe and have more room to move about. I know I'm one to talk though, I haven't left Lyric for a vacation overnight since he was hatched. I keep thinking one of these days I will and I'm sure he'll be fine, but I'm such a worrier and only want what is best for the animals! I hope you have fun on your upcoming vacation Di.

She may just be a little over excited and that is her way of showing it...or maybe she does want some attention. I wonder how she'd react if the person walking away turned back and said hello to her?

I think Ecko will continue to amaze you as he grows older- just think he's still a baby and already brilliant. He really is beautiful too- you must be such a proud mommy!

I think you are lucky the two hit it off so well right off the bat. I am a bit envious as my two don't get along (one is scared of the other) and it certainly causes some dilemnas for me as only one can be out of the cage at a time. It must be quite a sight to watch Harry giving Charlie his flight lessons! Enjoy the time with the two of them and keep us updated on how things progress.

Hi Ladyluck, welcome to the forum. Grace is such a pretty name for a grey, I think. At her young age she should be able to adapt to you quite quickly, but as she is a grey they are more cautious in nature. Just give her a bit more time to settle in. I'm sure once she figures out how much fun she can have with you she'll be hard to get back INSIDE the cage! Good luck and just take things slowly.

Lol, Dan, I would love to see the looks on people's faces when Dayo learns to say that!

I'm so sorry to hear this news. My thoughts are with you as you go through this sad time.

Love the picture Caitlin. Ecko is lovin it that he has something the dogs want! Mine do exactly the same thing- Lyric totally teases them when he has something good to eat. Here's my little beggar boys:

That is so funny, I bet you were having a time watching Koko's antics.

Way to go Jeepers! He is really a lovely bird, Pat, and you must be so proud of him right now. Congratulations on all your hard work paying off.

I was so sorry to read your story about Zack, but in some ways it is really good that you didn't have to make the decision to have him put down to end his suffering. Zack is flying free now and at peace. The news about Zack's baby brothers & sisters just hatching is so wonderful...one of his siblings will be joining your flock soon and help to heal the hole left by Zack's passing. I hope you'll keep us updated as you add a new member to your family.

This is a really great post. I feel my greys have changed my life too. For the better in that I have so much love for them. I look at them and see the wildness inside them and sometimes wonder if it is right to be keeping them in captivity though. Their lives with me are the best I can give them but imagine how much more rich and fulfilling their lives could be if they were free, living the life they were meant to. I do everything I can to make them happy... cook special meals for them... make sure to give them time out of the cage...give them toys, toys and more toys...play with them and talk to them and love them and clean up after them. I haven't taken a vacation in almost 3 years, since Lyric was hatched. I can't bring myself to leave him because I don't have anyone who can or would care for them as I do. I worry all the time about their happiness and well-being. Once in a while I think how nice it would be to have a break, but I take my commitment to their care very seriously. These are my babies and I want them to be happy and to have the best life possible that I can give.

We don't have a pet store in my town at all... so I either have to drive far away to go to one or just order online. Mostly I just order online. I also order from Drs Foster and Smith, but I'm always looking for the place with the best supplies at the lowest prices. I wish I had a store with great toys at less than $20!

I'm so glad you were able to rescue Torry and he's doing well in your home. I'm surprised that an older grey would chose to sleep at the bottom of the cage- most will go to one of the highest perches in the cage to sleep. I guess they are all individuals though and he just has his preferences. I really like his name too!

Natasha, you have a wonderful heart and I'm sure you will be able to help this little tag. It does sound like a dangerous situation for the baby- what if the mother turns her back and he sticks a finger in the bird's cage? He could quite possibly get hurt real bad. If the mother considers the welfare of all involved perhaps she'll come to the conclusion that Vlooi would be better off re-homed. In the meantime, I'm sure he'll love some attention and new toys.

Poor Willow. I'm sure it was traumatic for her but very necessary. Hopefully the next visit with the vet won't be so terrible for both of you! Congratulations on your new Red Belly- what is his name? I have Senegals and they are in the same family- great little birds! If he is already talking to you it sounds like you are on the right track with him.
-
It was a learning experience for you, it sounds like you are back on track and slowly winning back his trust. Next time you get frustrated trying to get him back inside the cage, walk away, take a few deep breaths and calm your energy. Find something the bird likes to look at and bribe him with that while you get him back inside the cage. You will eventually learn the tricks to dealing with every situation. It takes time but it will be worth it in the end.

Great update, I'm so happy things are going well with Gil in his new home.

Beau is really clever and well-mannered too it seems. If you praise him highly he should continue the behavior- they love to be praised! Great job!

I'm so happy and excited for you. Your two babies look like little angels and they already adore you, I can tell. Tina did a marvelous job socializing them for you. This is such a great thing, seeing them home with you at last. Thanks for sharing the photos of the twins homecoming with us. Have fun and enjoy them. -
Ahhh, I better not look too long...so cute...I'm feeling all nesty again. Congratulations to you- I bet you can't wait to pick yours out.
