  1. Judy agree that first intial baby clip can really screw the Greys up Tyco also used to barber the left hand flight feathers and I'm sure that was due to the first clip she had I don't know how she manage to live being so off balance for her first 4 years I guess they just never let her out of the cockateil size cage she lived in. I'm so glad that I took her in and got her wings evened out properly because it stopted her from chewing her feather. Now finally at 6 yrs old she can find out what its like to be a bird. If she's ever able to really learn how to fly.
  2. That is just not true I have 2 female and both are very bonded to me and Judy has a female and she is Bonded to Judy not her husband. I think the bird will make up its own mind who they like and who they don't. Why don't youet your bird dna tested then you'll know for sure. I will put in a link that you can visualy sex your grey but s/he has to have gone through its first big molt for it to work http://exoticpetvet.net/avian/appgreys.html
  3. One of my Greys is 6 yrs old and a rescue I've had her for 2 years. she definatly talks more when I'm not in the room with her because she calls me. She also makes up excuses why I should come. I need toys pick up bug-a-boo her favorite foot toy. or Fesh water, Or cookie. what ever she thinks will make me come back faster. She is very smart. when I'm in the room she does talk but only when she's putting her 2 cents in when I'm having a conversation with my daughter or talking on the phone if she hears the phone ring she always says hello who is it Sometime when shes playing she will talk to her toys tells them to stop it or bad baby or what ever she also will shake sometimes when I'm interacting with her and I know its not because shes afraid of me. anyway I hope this helps alittle it sounds to me like your grey is normal my bird mimics my daughter but I'm her favorite so thats probubly normal also.
  4. You are going to have to give him allittle more cage time when your home like mabie 1/2 hour or so before you leave and a 1/2 hour after you come home you will have to be consistant so that it becomes part of his rotine then I'm sure it will get better Adaya loves her cage she has so many things to play with she beats the heck out of her swing and her big bell. Ihave her out allot but not constantly she probubly gets a total of 6 hr. of out of cage time a day and I take her outside for a walk for a hour of that each day but she love her cage time also. it sounds to me like echo is just throwing a spoilt baby tantrum to see if he's going to get his way.
  5. That is such a good Idea Dan thankyou thankyou from me and my sore head. If you where here I'd give you a big hug. I'll let you know how it goes.
  6. I do agree I don't clip my birds after the inictial and as for My Grey Tyco I rescued her and when I got her she had barbered all of the flight feathers on her left side I inagine because of a bad clip as a baby because she wasn't permited to fledge she is six years old and is just starting to learn to fly back to why I clipped her she was so off balance from barbering her left side and would fall hard on her keel constantly. I took her to the vet and had her wings evened out in the hope it would stop her from falling and it did it also stopped her from barbering that left wing, and now she is fully flighted. I have reasons that I clip and only do it if it seems nessesary. I never clipped my Severe Macaws wings when I rescued him basicly because he was cage bound he wouldn't come out so I didn't want to further damage his confidence by clipping. He's gotten allot better now he comes out and lets me scritch his head but still doesn't like to leave his cage area for long I do take him into another room everyday for some intence one on one fun but after about an hour he wants to go back to his cage I'm hoping in time he will prefer me over his cage.
  7. Adaya has decided the top of my head makes a good landing strip. she has very sharp nails and my head is covered with little sores from her claws. I tryed everything she steps up good when I reach up and get her down only to have her do it again I have dodged her afew time so she has to land somewhere else but when I sitting I can't dodge her Ihave moved her down to my shoulder so many times hoping she will get the Idea that its better there but no such luck any suggestion would be welcome my sore head would greatly appreciate it.
  8. Thats very cute they do like their bedtime to be on time. I know when I'm busy and 9:00pm comes around Tyco the first to remind me that its bedtime she says nite-nite over and over until I tuk her in with a kiss and a scratch the like rotine and that rotine must be kept or you will have a very unhappy bird.
  9. Ijust get my vet to dremal their nails once and it useually never has to be done again it takes off the needle sharpness then the cement perches kepp them that way.
  10. I also love to see abird in flight and the areobattics they preform are so much fun to watch. I do clip a birds wings once when they come into my home if they are rescues or older birds the reason for this is to help them adjust to the other birds and them to a new flock member. I have a sunroom in my home and any new birds must learn that all those windows are solid so they don't fly into them and possibly hurt themselves or worse I have lost 2 birds like this so now everybird I have gets a training session every week to remind them the windows are solid a new bird gets this training everyday until I'm sure they know they can't fly through I take them around to every window and mirror in the house and get them to touch the glass with their beak.I call it an adventure. my baby birds I never clip. They usually arrive from the breeders clipped because for some reason most breeders clip the birds before they sell them I don't know why. Adaya will never be clipped I got her at 5 weeks old so there is no reason she has settled in very nicely with the other birds and has been taught about the windows. So I guess what I'm saying is I can understand that sometimes there are legit reasons to clip a bird but I don't beleive that it should be done forever birds where meant to fly. 11. Have you checked for heavy metal poisoning I know that they have those same things happening with that.
  12. There is a ton of information on this site Just use the search box for just about everything you want to know and if that doesn't work for you just ask their are many experianced Grey owners that are willing to help. welcome to the forum
  13. Are you going to be keeping one of the babies that your greys have for a pet. I look forward to hearing all about them the pictures are beautiful. welcome to our family of Grey parronts hope you enjoy the forum.
  14. I also have tears in my eyes and a lunp in my throat I know what its like to have that close bond with a bird I have that same bond with my YCA and hope to have that bond with the new baby Grey I just got at 5 weeks old. she chews the buttons off everything also.I can only inagine the huge hole left in your heart from losing such a companion as she was to you you will see her again she is waiting for you just accross rainbow bridge I hope time will help heal the pain your feeling now and that you can find a new companion to help a little though another bird could never take her place. I will be sending good thoughts your way and if you need to talk I will listen.
  15. I would find a different Vet and get a second opinion your bird is sick.
  16. I would definatly start leaving his door open most of the time he will probubly just sit on his cage and watch everything for awile. your doing great with him have you tried the step up command with him. if he's regurgatating for you it sounds like he really likes you and wants to be friends so I would say you could probubly hold him try pushing you hand against his tummy just above his legs and say step up and he might just jump onto your hand. if he bites don't react just turn your back and walk away.
  17. The thing these guys get themselves into they are just like little kids. this story so reminded me of once when my kids where young and one of my kids ate a mushroom from the yard. I phoned poison control and they told depending on the type one could kill her I had to get her to puke it up with appekack these birds do the same things as kids do you got to watch them every second you can't even leave a bar of soap laying around because if you do they will find it little buggers just like to turn our hair grey so its the same color as them:) Sorry to hear you had such a scare.
  18. Thanks for your help. I put the new pellets in with her seed more pellets than seeds and I noticed that she's eating her pellets she seems to really like this Zupreem harvest goodness one I hope this is a good sign. I'd rather buy her that kind and have her eating them and enjoying them then to keep giving her the Zupreem fruity and have her not eat any. My other birds will only eat the zupreem fruity so it looks like I'm going to have to buy both if I want Adaya to eat her pellets. my bird food bill just doubled. the Harvest goodness is a dollar more than the fruity and I get 2lbs instead of 3lbs for that price. Oh well Adaya's worth it.
  19. That was nice of Tina to stop by and say hello and put a couple more pics up for us. your baby's are so cute I don't think I could stand it I'd have to jump on a plane and visit they just get big so fast and their so cute makes me want to just squeeze them:laugh:
  20. Well good luck with the meds. I hate giving meds to my birds they always hate it I wish they could do somthing to make it taste good so the birds would take it willingly. Oh well use a little trickery if you have to what ever works. I'm sorry to hear he's under weight hopefully that will improve when his bacteria improves your a good mom and I'm glad you have everything taken care of. how much does SZ weigh.

  24. How old is your baby he's very cute are you hand feeding him. Thats a good way to bath him and youshould bath him in the morning so thhat he has lots of time to dry you don't want to put him to bed wet. you can add aloe vera juice to the water if you like it helps with dry skin. Twice a week is adverage to bath your grey. You could also try a dish of water in his cage some greys like to bath in a dish some like to shower with their owners it all depends on the bird.
