Great news I'm so happy for you. Here's me trying to cut down on working so much I just cut my hours from 4 nights a week to 3 and 6 hour shifts instead of 7. I'd really like to retire but I'm only 52 yrs old I didn't have my 13 yr old daughter I would have retired 2 yrs ago when I sold my house and bought a doublewide 1500 sqft manufactured home outright no morgage yeah. I love her to death but she's a very normal teenage girl so she cost allot to keep so between her and the birds I still have to work to keep them living the life they are acustom too. OH well least I can get away with just working 18 hours a week I hope I really don't want to work anymore than that but by cutting myself by 1 day a week Its a 400.dollar deduction in my income each month its going to cramp my daughters style just alittle:laugh:

My Son has boarded the plane! long story
Tycos_mom replied to CarolandFamily's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
OMG Carol I'm so sorry to hear about your son. When my son was around 20 yrs old 5 men jumped him and robbed him as he was coming home from work he had just gotten off the train and they grabbed him and beat him very badley My son is no small guy at 6ft 6in tall but against 5 men he didn't stand a chance. I know exactly how you must be feeling I was terrified for weeks to let my son out of my sight. You have my sympathy and I'm so glad he's coming to live with you at leastyou won't have to worry everytime he steps out the door. I phoned my son right after I read this post just to let him know how much I love him. he's 35yrs old now but he will always be my one and only baby boy. I also have 4 daughters they all live close so I can see them all the time. My son lives about 75miles away so I don't see him nearly as often. I so glad to hear your son made it out of this alive he trlly does have a gardian angel God bless you and your family. -
I used to buy those for Tyco in all sizes and the she figured out how to pull all the little peices of wood out so itwould just fall apart she could totaly dismantle one in 2 minutes flat so now I buy vine balls for her instead at least they last her the whole day. and they are only 2.00 each

heres a link for bird safe plants and as long as you change the wood chips often pine chips are safe for bird. http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

Poor baby just isn't happy is he. Mabieyou vet could help with a few suggestions to help with his plucking. I wish I had some answer for you but I don't have any birds that pluck. Tyco did before I got her but stopped as soon as I got her wings fixed at the vet so I really can't help.

My birds have had the same rotine for so long they go into their cages on their own at bed time 9:00pm everynight I say ok baby its bedtime into your houses and they all go and then I make the rounds in the order that I got them all give them their scritch and a kiss goodnight and cover their cage. Its so easy when you the rotine is exactly the same all the time if I'm late 5 minutes for bedtime they remind me and say nite nite over and over until I tuck them in LOL
-
oh my what a nice cage its so big is it heavy it almost looks big enough to use as a every day cage what are the measurements

I hope and pray that you get her back safe and sound don't give up you just never know someone may just see a notice and bring her back to you make sure you keep any and all notices up to date check with vets and pet stores daily and the animal shelters. any ads on line should be always on the first page any and all AG forums on the web should also have a thread about it. I'm probubly saying all the things you already know but I get so worried when these little guys get lost and I so wish I lived in your neibourhood or at least within driving distance. I'd be right there with you helping and canvasing. Leaving no stone unturned so to speak I will pray hard for her safe return don't give up.

Chewing Newspaper and/or Flyers BAD??
Tycos_mom replied to myafricanqueen's topic in The GREY Lounge
I actually have a toy that I make out of newspaper for my birds to shread they absolutly love it and its very simple what you do is make a chain out of plastic shower curtain rings then roll up a whole newspaper and place it into the last ring you can do the same all the way up the chain then hang it in their cage they will have so much fun chewing the news paper just make sure that the ring fits tight around the middle of the paper so they can't pull it out its messy but great fun. That way they leave the paper on the bottom of the cage alone and you know they are getting clean paper to chew news paper is very safe. -
Very nice It looks like Emma really likes it also I have a couple of table top play areas for my birds but I really like yours. way nicer than the ones I have mine are just tower type ones.I'm in the process of making a tree stand for my birds My white alder tree had a beautiful big branch broken in a wind storm last winter so I kept it. I just cleaned it up the other day soaked it in bleachy water its to big to fit in the oven so I have it outside on the deck drying in the sun when I finish it I'll post some pictures.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/13 19:57

Your lucky you only have 2 birds to referee Adaya is the new kid on the block at my house and she's still a little baby so she doesn't know what she can do and what she can't it makes it very hard because she wants tobe friends with all the birds (social butterfly ) but my other birds are quite a bit older than her except my Indian ring neck he just turned a year old in May so him and Adaya are the best of friends. but to the older birds shes just a pain in the neck and they will tolerate her for only so long before they get mad. Thank goodness they are also well behave and do as I tell them to. If I can see they're getting irratated I say don't hurt her no bite. and they will go hang out in their cages and shut the door. I'm sure in time when Adaya grows up a little everything will be just fine

You have given the insperation to do this I'm going to turn my spare room into a bird room Its just used for the computer room right now. I don't use that computer at all because I have my own notebook. My daughter has was used to be the master bedroom and so her bedroom is quite large there wood be no problem putting the compter in her room since she's the only one that uses it any way and then I could give the computer room to the birds it would be wonderful. I would have tons more room and I could put a couple playstands where there cages are right now so if they wanted some one on one time with me they could come and play on the play stands. I think I'll do that this weekend.

You should harrness train her if your going to take her outside. even clipped birds will fly away if the get startled or frightened and if theres any breeze at all she could carch the air currents and you would never see your sweet baby Grey again. harrness training is one of the very first things I did with Adaya as soon as she could fit into one. She's not crazy about the harrness but she loves being able to come every where with me and I just love takeing her if she wasn't harrness trained there is no way I would take the chance unless I put her in a travel cage.

I get told I love you everyday also but its not from my Grey its frow my Macaw. I'm lucky if I hear it from my Grey one every couple of weeks. I guess like people some say Ilove you all the time and others its rare but when they do say it boy does it ever make yo feel great. Tyco loves me and I know this but she not one for saying it often she talks and talks and chatters all day long until you find yourself looking for the switch that turns her off but saying I love you is rare.
-
You are just so wonderful for trying to help this little guy You realize of course he may bond with you because of al the things you are doing for him. I'm so glad what a big heart you have. I'd really love to see some pics even papparatzi style:laugh: I saw a AGC at my vet the last time I was there and I swear this little bird was smaller than a Timnah so they do come in lots of sizes from very small to very large. Tyco looked just massive compared to this little one that I saw. For that matter Tyco is big even compared to Adaya my other AGC as yo can see in my signature.
-
"OH How sweet!!" Arn't they just the best at that age. I have one right around the same age. My Adaya was hatched on the 7th of Feb. your baby's flying grey't nice video. she sure was determined to beat up the camera she was working rally hard at climbing your shirt. Don't feed her to many of those sunflower seeds they are good for calcium but they are also very fattening and thats not good for birds a few everyday is fine.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've had with Alfi. isn't it nice that you have a sweet little girl. I have 2 girls so I'm patial to them. If Alfi eats his fruits and veggies well then I wouldn't worry to much abot the pellets. I have a couple birds like that. Then I have one that eats pellets veggies and every other kind of food that I offer but won't touch any kind of seeds thats really strange to me. Mabie its because she was a rescue and never got anything else but seeds before she came to me. What ever the reason I'm not going to complain Tyco has always been a little different from the rest in every way. You will have to keep us updated on the results of the blood work and poop test please. I hope everything turns out fine. its good that she is back to her normal self its hard when you don't understand whats going on in the litte heads and you have to try to figure it out. I hope the worst is over for you now and things get back on track again I will say a prayer for that. keep in touch and vist us more often I love to hear how all our little family here are doing when you get a chance mabie some pictures would be nice also. Talk to you soon I hope.

Very nice it looks like your birds get along fairly well thats great you've done a wonderful job of decorating their cages your birds must think their in birdy heaven great job hows Solomon doing hashe stopped plucking if he hasn't yet I'm sure he will with all those toys he has to play with he won't have time to think about plucking. I'll bet he will be fully feathered in no time. he's such a pretty bird.
-
You going to have to try and see if he will except it I also would go in from the side I have a 6 year old rescue and I've had her for 2 years now she took 7 months before she let me touch her feathers. she put her head down one day and I went in from the side and rubbed her face the first time it was like 2 secs and then she tryed to bite but that started the ball rolling now she loves it. Sooner or later your goingto have to chance it each time she allows it even if its only a second or 2 shes goin to rememberhow good it feels and allow you to scratch longer and longer and of course the bonus is that the trust and relationship increases also.
