1. I'm feeling so sorry for my bird right now she is going through a very heavy molt. I don't think I've ever see it this bad in the 6 years I've had her she won't even let me help her because it hurts to much to even be touched. I've been bathing her daily but I really don't no what else to do for her. She not eating very much right now either I guess she's just to uncomfortable todo anything. She hasn't lost to much weight or anything so I guess she eating enough. I cannot believe how many feathers she has dropped over the las little while. she has pins everywhere poor baby
2. Acappella wrote Two side of the same coin:lol: Just point out that there are many other things out there you could have chosen to obsess about, and this one not only makes sure your spend lots of time at home, it also takes all your extra money so you can't go out and get into any trouble! {Feel-good-000200BB}how true my friends are the same way always saying can't you talk about anythig else except your birds. Oh well their loss
3. Just a little Grey angel sound asleep how sweet. Thanks for sharing:cheer:

6. Tyco does the same thing with my dogs. First she's nice and will throw them a tidbit from her dish, and then when they come over and are busy eating she sneeks down to give them a good bite. I've had to warn the dog that she coming so many times. Then she gives me the evil eye as if to say mom why did you do that. I love the storys on this forum. I'm so glad to see my Grey is'nt the only one that rule the roost. Your poor cat must be walking on eggshells wondering when the bird is going to chase her away again:laugh:
7. Thats so grey't that you've joined us this is the best place to learn all about African Grey's is Your Grey a Timnah or a Congo iust curious it doesn't wake a difference really They both are wonderful beautiful birds. I just love mine with every part of my being. I would not ever what to be without her. I have a Congo she is 5yrs old. She's a rescue anyway welcome to the forum and please read all you can so when your baby come you will know what to expect. Ask anything you want nothing is a silly question . You are in for a treat when your baby comes home I can hardly wait to see pictures of s/he.
8. I rescued a Grey last October and have worked with her on a daily basis. its only been the last month or so that she has finally allowed me to give her scritches. She trusts me now and is turning into the most wonderful companion I could ever hope or want to have. It has taken time, love, and patients to arrive at this point it has also taken commitment I work with her daily playing with her teaching her knew thing. reading to her what ever it take to show her that I love her and that I'm harmless. this paradise place sounds like some kind of tortcher chamber and I would never try this with a Grey they are exstreamly intelegent and may never be the same again if you put them through something like that. Its so much better and way more rewarding to realize that your grey trust you and loves you because of the efforts you put into it. You never force a grey to do something against its will. that is not what you want you want to make that bird love you. so you know when it does what you ask its out of the love he has for you not because its scared to death not too. I would hope that you don't even consider this as a viable option

asthma

I have acouple of air cleaners and they both have Ionizer on them but it optional on weather I use the Ionizer or just the air cleaner I don't ever use the Ionizer. I have asthma also and quite badly I might add. but with the air cleaners and frequent bathing It doesn't seem to affect me to much and my Grey sleeps in my bedroom. I just keep a small air cleaner beside my bed and it's never been a problem When I had both my Cocatoo and my grey I had more of a problem I think the cocatoo dust is heavier mabie because when I had him I could hardly walk to the end of the house without breathing heavy. I found antihistemines worked better then my puffer It was more of an allergy to my Cocatoo than to the dust I think. My grey doesn't seem to bother me at all though.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/08/29 22:28
10. I just learned somthing new Thank you Dave.
11. Aren't they just the best when their behaving sweetlt and wanting cuddles. It always seems they like their cuddles just before bed, Tyco always wants neck and head skritches just before bed and a kiss good night and I better be prepared for at least 15 or 20 minutes of scritches or she won't go to bed otherwise. I don't mind though at least she allows me to touch her finally so I'm very proud of her. She just the sweetest most playful little baby. When it comes to her night time love she becomes an little grey angel. And any wrong that she's done that day is completely forgiven and forgoten you just can't stay mad at them when their being soooo sweeeet.
12. Bandit my new Cockateil hurt himself somehow. I thinking mabie when he was out he might have flown into something and when he put his foot up bent his toe backward. He has a broken toe. He was in shock for a while so I had to keep a heating pad under his cage and cover three sides to keep the heat in but he seems better today. The vet said there isn't much they can do for a broken toe. She gave me something for the pain. I put his pearches and food low to the floor of his cage for a while because its hard for him to climb right now. I also put a small cardboard box with some paper towels in it just in case he wants to lay down and rest his good foot. Does anybody have any other sugestions on how I can make him a little more comfortable until his Toe heals.
13. Tracy she is sweet and so beautiful Your so lucky, and she is so lucky to have a such knowlegable mom to keep her happy and healthy Tyco is the same way she just love the cheep dollar store foot toys and plastic cups. I go out and spend a ton of money on toys for her cage and she barely plays with them. It's fun to watch her having so much fum and she does fly great I just love to see a pet bird in flight.
14. Tyco will learn to say something so quick and others I know she can say but won't. THe other day Tuesday was sharing a peice of pepreroni with Tyco I wasn't home but the next day Tyco looked at me and said pepperoni yum yum want some. Well I just about flipped because I knew that I had never given her pepperoni. and I didn't have any Idea where she got that from. I said where did you learn about pepperoni thats when Tuesday said I shared a peice with her yesterday. Things that she likes she learns right away and says it over and over. Thing that don't intrest her. like trying to get her to say I love you. she won't say. except on her terms. like one morning she woke up and I didn't get her up right away. well within 10 minutes or so later she said I love you I think she said that because she new I would get her up if she said it. Because no matter how hard I try to get her to say it again she won't. Such a little brat makes a lyer out of me all the time.
15. Tyco shares her home with myself 2 of my daughters sometimes just one depending on weather or not Tuesday has to come home again for another month or 2 til she gets back on her feet again. she's home at the moment for awhile then i have 3 dogs when Tuesday is home there's 4 dogs and 6 other birds.
16. my daughter sleeps with her radio on and I'm sure the birds can hear it because I can and I'm at the oppisite end of the house. It doesn't seem to bother them one way or the other. If it does they haven't said anything anyway:laugh:
17. my birds could care less if there is the odd bug around I live in a very rual area so we have lots of different things around and sometimes not often we get the odd bug. my birds pretty much don't even take notice. Me on the other hand hate bugs of any kind they are not allowed in my house. I have a thing called a rodent repeller and it alos keeps the bugs away.
18. Oh yes if you've only had him 6 days its way to soon. I have had my grey for 10 months and she's a rescue. with rescues you have to wait for them to come to you. don't try step ups from inside the cage if your going to try at all wait until he's out of his cage and then try to step him up onto a perch. then take him to nutural ground away from his cage where he can't see it like the bedroom or bathroom. I prefer the bathroom because it small and the can't go to far just make sure you close the toilet and shower curtian. Then you can work on step up training talk sweet to him always tell him exactly what you re doing before you do it. if you want to give him a beak rub or a kiss on his beak say to him can I touch your beak, or can I give you a scritch or can you step up. then everytime say step up like he practicing walking up stairs. and don't forget lots and lots of praise if he does it right. don't over do training only work with him for about 10 to 15 minutes maximun 2or 3 times a day until he's comfortable with you and good luck.
19. I talk to all my birds like the where children and I find that allot of the time they resond correctly Tyco always responds correctly she is just amazing me and my Daughter will be talking and she will say something and before I get a chance to answer Tyco will answer and give the correct response sometimes its a little scarry just to see how smart they really are for little Grey Birds
20. My conures have tried and so has my IRN but their is no way on earth that I would allow any of my birds to do that Yuk Yuk YUK nothing like being grossed out first thing in the morning YUK::sick:
21. It doesn't matter i don't think I've heard of a few Grey's that are biligal and I'm sure if you throw a third one in there he will end up trilingal LOL they are very intellegent and will learn what you teach them With language its like teaching your child to talk some children are raised with two languages its the same thing for your grey
22. Oh I wouldn't worry you would not beleive some of the areobatics my Amazon can do she's a pro and knows it I've see her go sidways through an opening at full speed the opening was a door that was only open about 4 inches she flew around to the opening turned sidways so she would fit through and kept on going It won't take long before your Baxter will be doing the same thing. I bet within a week or two he will have this flying thing down to a science:laugh: :woohoo: :silly:

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/08/25 21:42
23. Oh no thats awful news I'm so sorry to hear that I hope thats not the case. I will be praying for you and your baby.
24. Fergie My Amazon is the worst she loves people food and I have allot of trouble getting her to eat good food so I have to cook for her because if its cooked then she thinks its people food and eat it. But because everything she eats is soft and mushy most of the time her big bomb in the morning is soft and mushy and somtimes smells bad also depending on what she eats. I would not worry to much they are allot like us that way when we eat some things we might have a loose smelly poop too

Its a good thing that you are a nurse even though you know nothiing about birds you do know that a strong will to succeed can work miracles and I sure with your help your Grey will get that miracle. please keep us updated I would love to see how you bird progresses.
