  1. I am so sorry you had to find him a new home, but you were probably right to do it when he was so young! That was a brave decision Siobhan
  2. What have I started:ohmy: ??? I didn't have to convince my husband. Oisin is actually "officially" his bird. They didnt always love each other like this. Liath has been nuts about Oisin since the day we brought him home, but Oisin took a bit longer to convince:laugh: They are still babies though, Oisin is 1 TODAY (Happy hatchday, baby boy)! and Liath is 2 sometime this month as well (I don't know her hatch date ) I am not sure if they will be this nice to each other as they hit adolescence:unsure:
  3. Me too ... thats actually a different picture. That has become their nightly routine. They love their cuddles with each other
  4. DanMcQ "This is a touching story of the glue that binds your home and flock together....love and concern for one another" They really do love one another <br><br>Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/07/11 15:32
  5. Well you know the way I think Liath is my best friend. Well Liath thinks Oisin is her best friend! And she looks out for him so well. Today I had the 2 of them on top of the cage in the dining room while I made dinner in the kitchen which is an adjoining room. Liath was chatting away as usual, and Oisin was doing his baby talk and whistles. Usually I tune out what they are saying because they talk non stop. But after a while I began to notice what Liath was saying. "Good Boy Oisin, come on, step up, come on, Do you wanna step up, come on Oisin etc etc" So, my curiosity aroused, I went in to see why she was so persistent. Poor little Oisin had landed on the floor, and with his wings clipped, he wasnt able to fly back up to her! She was trying to tell me to come and rescue him. When I popped him back up beside him, she said "OISIN! Kisses for YOU!" Now THAT is a grey's best friend:)
  6. What did you decide to name your baby or is she/he still called Noname?
  7. That is great news, it sounds like she is going to settle in quite quickly! Welcome to the forum Dudley
  8. My vote would be for Raymond, that is such a funny shot of a donkey. I'd say it could have be the inspiration for Donkey in Shrek
  9. Yes well done Laurie!! I agree with Dan... I think a trip to Hawaii is in order. We should start a petition for you

    Rikki is Home!!

She really is beautiful. What does Talon think of her so far? Have they seen each other yet? It will be interesting to see pictures of the 2 together. Is Rikki much bigger than Talon? She doesnt look like one of the really big CAGs. Sorry for all the questions, but it is exciting:P
  12. It's like an underwater sea anemone or something. Very impressive!
  13. I wouldnt consider my greys to be any noisier than my three children;). If the appartment building allows children, then they shouldnt have any problem with greys. As parrots go they are definitely quieter than many others. But they do make noise, they are still a parrot!
  14. Here are a couple of threads about games we play! http://www.greyforums.net/forums/training/74357-playing-games.html#74734 and http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/73062-what-games-to-play-with-grey.html#73079
  15. That is WONDERFUL news! I am sure you must be delighted The change is probably due in part to getting those feathers removed, but I'll bet a large part of it is due to your persistence in giving her things to amuse herself with and play with. You are an inspiration to other parronts! I am sending you some karma;) Well done!
  16. I agree, that doesnt sound like enough food. And he isnt getting any vegtables or enough fruit. My guys are definitely pigs:whistle: , and no matter what is in their bowls they will always find room for a grape or a carrot stick. I don't think they can over eat on fruit and veg and are unlikely to overeat on pellets. I would offer those freely all day:) . And I offer lots of people food because I think it gives them variety and has to help make their diet more balanced and more interesting;) . Plus its usually cheaper than bird food so it makes the bird food go farther!
  17. It wasnt actually the chimney. Thats whats so infuriating about it:blink: . The range cooker and the chimney had been completely cleaned about 2 months ago. The rain we had been having was exceptionally bad for this time of year, and the soot was mixing with the rain and making a kind of tar. It was all in the cooker at the chimney opening. I literally lifted it out with a tongs in one piece! I need to get a better chimney cowl fitted to stop the rain coming in. The little rascals are fine! Up to their usual antics, and in grand form. The only problem is they smell like they have taken up smoking! I shall have to shower the pair of them this evening. And yes I definitely got a short sharp reminder of how blessed I am to have the two of them. When I walked into that room this morning, and I couldnt see them for the smoke and they were so quiet I was sure they were dead.
  18. {Love-0002011E} Thank you so much Tracy! I think my heart rate is returning to normal now;) As usual you saved the day!
  19. You're telling me! The house could've gone up in flames, before I even looked to see where the smoke was coming from I was opening windows! I can replace the house, but I can't replace my babies. I rang a local vet who has an interest in birds (he isnt an avian vet). He told me that they would be stretching out their necks gasping for air if they had any damage. Or coughing and spluttering. He said its looks as if I have got away with it, but if they don't eat or their breathing deteriorates to go down to him immediately. He doesnt want to see them otherwise because he feels they have been stressed enough today. Liath just started coughing, which gave me a fright till I remembered my son had a cold last week:P And she did follow it up with "Poor Liath, do you need a doctor?"
  20. Does anybody know anything about smoke inhalation in greys? This morning I put a couple of sods of turf on my solid fuel stove and went to drop my kids to music camp. When I came home the house was full of smoke including the room the greys are in. I could hardly see them across the room. The chimney had blocked at the base probably due to some horrendous rain storms we have been having. I opened all the windows and the doors immediatly before I even looked at the fire. I was gone about an hour and a half and I don't know how long they were sitting in the smoke. My question is what should I do now? An avian vet is out of the question as there isnt one within 150 miles of here. And even then it is impossible to get an appointment with her as she is the only one in the Republic of Ireland. At the moment they both seem fine, Liath is ripping up a magasine, and Oisin is blowing kisses and chewing on his plastic spools.
  21. Congratulations! I am sure you were made for each other! Looking forward to the photos
  22. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful grey:)
