  1. Welcome Jody! It really is early days for you and Echo, I am sure you will win him over. What have you been trying as treats? My guys love nuts, almonds, walnuts, pine nuts... I chop them quite small so it doesnt take them too long to eat it. The longer it takes them to eat it the more likely they will forget what I have been trying to teach them
  2. Believe me, we are great at laughing at funny (and sometimes not so funny:S ) stories... so get posting as soon as you get Woody home! Looking at the time, you must be on your way to get him now:woohoo: I imagine we won't hear from you for a couple of days until you can tear yourself away from him to log on
  3. Aren't they lovely! Thank you for showing them to us.
  4. Me neither. I don't know how you feed them and cuddle them while they are tiny and then just hand them back when they are just big enough to be fun. I couldnt ever be a breeder either! I want the caiques please! Just ship them over
  5. Congratulations. I can't wait to see lots of photos!
  6. Congratulations Susan! I am still at the parent stage and I hope I have a few years left before I hit the grandparent stage as my eldest is only 14. But I am very envious about the giving them back bit. You will have all the best bits of being a mother, without the night feeds, and laundry
  7. danmcq wrote: Detective Dan strikes again.... Are you a detective Dan? Cos you're very good at spotting the little details  Monty is adorable... I love him!
  8. {Feel-good-00020069} Oooh I know the chucking the water bowl game:woohoo: ! It was so annoying... but I won that little battle! On Tracy's advice I bought the crock lock dishes. They are a brilliant invention. Any money was worth the pleasure of sitting back and watching Liath throwing a hissy fit, and heading for her water bowl fully intent on throwing it just to demonstrate how annoyed she is. And then to see the confusion on the poor birds face when she realised it wasnt going anywhere. And I sat there smug and thought "Mammy 1, Liath 524"!!!!
  9. Welcome Monty... can't wait to see some pictures!
  10. Liath will always give me the run around... but I have won that particular battle. I do believe that ultimately Liath might win the war though I never know what my little "angel" has in store for me next. Today I told her to stop squealing, and she said "That's easy for you to say!" A favourite comment of my husbands when the birds make strange noises
  11. Congratulations Tracy!! Freddie did you proud
  12. That is a great article, "It's ok its just the pipes!" How sweet! If I were you I would use the opportunity to get his cage the way you want it. Since he has already seen everything you are planning on putting into it anyway. I wouldnt worry too much about being with him all the time, he needs some alone time too. And don't forget you can interact and amuse your grey without actually taking him out of the cage. I often sit beside my greys and chat with them, or play with them while they are still in the cage. That way, in Dorians case, he still has his security blanket, but he gets interaction too. Hang in there, you are doing great so far!
  13. My greys are trained to go on command. I can put them on their stand and tell them to go and they will, but they still poop at will all over the place as well! I trained them by putting them on the stand as soon as I take them out of the cage and telling them to go, when they do I praise them and take them off the stand. Now they understand what they need to do to get off the stand. It isnt an exact science, but there are lots of threads about potty training you could have a read of
  14. You guys all laugh at my mischevious grey! And the annoying thing is she laughs at me too But rest assured Amberly, Wednesday is fast approaching and I am sure you will provide us with a few laughs:laugh:  ! The update on the story is that the palm nuts were used for a few days, and then she forgot all about her "Lets drive Mammy mad" campaign and she is stepping up nicely now. On the very odd occasion that she doesnt, I whip out my secret weapon... James Bond style.... and she nearly trips over herself trying to get that palm nut
  15. I just want to bring this back to the most important part of this thread... womens distaste for ironing. Here is where it all began
  16. Ahem! Speak for yourself! There is nothing wrong with me Has ANYBODY seen my marbles????? :side: :silly:
  17. Oh My God  WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY GODDAUGHTER???? She is having SUCH a bad hair day.... I will email you the name of a decent hairdresser, we can't have her going out looking like that!!!
  18. I can't see why it wouldnt be ok... obviously you'd use a lot less than you would with a grey I dont bathe my cockatiels as they do it themselves in a dish. So I've never used the juice on them.
  19. Its a brilliant movie, and its so true. So many things are put on the long finger while we do more important things like ironing and tidying the garden. I think that really we should spend our time enjoying ourselves, so I have decided from now on...... NO MORE IRONING:laugh:
  20. Dayo is so cute. And so typical. Why is it that our birds want to make liars of us? As soon as we take out a camera to record their hilarious goings on, they stop whatever they were doing! Oh an I'm with Terri on the eating thing, IF I let Liath at my dinner, she sits on the table and uses the edge of my plate... I can't be having pasta sauce in my hair, its not like I can change THAT when I am finished eating:P
  21. In the end, there are only two things to worry about: either you are well or you are sick. When you're well, there is nothing to worry about. But if you're sick, then there are two things to worry about: either you get well or you will die. When you get well, there is nothing to worry about. But when you die, then there are two things to worry about: either you'll go to heaven or you'll go to hell. When you go to heaven, there is nothing to worry about. But when you go to hell, you'll be so damn busy shaking hands with friends, you won't have time to worry! SO WHY WORRY!?
  22. That is brilliant news! And at lease Sidney is eating pellets, it should be relatively easier to add veggies, than to wean him from a seed diet. Believe me I know, I have 2 seed junkies in my house  I am sure once you get them home you will be able to work on diet and exercise etc. Congratulations and can't wait to see some pictures!
  23. You are certainly lucky you decided to quaratine him. Poor little guy seems to have a rough 2 weeks, it certainly was no vacation for him. Out of curiosity did they give you any explanation as to how he mandible got broken? Was he fighting with their other bird? I know they didnt get along, but did they actually hurt each other?
  24. {Feel-good-0002006E} Well I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried it yet  So do us a favour and keep a diary of the entire process, we can document it and use it as a reference for all other one person birds that we meet Tell your B/f its for the good of science and the grey community in general
  25. Hi Caroline, My Oisin sounds just like Charlie, except he doesn't have a traumatic experience to blame his bad moods on:P . Oisin is just not a cuddly bird, even with his Daddy whom he is bonded to. He was agressive to the point that I dreaded trying to get him back into his cage, and used to wait till my hubby was home whereever possible. In the end after much thought, reading and soul searching, we had Oisin clipped in an attempt to make him more dependent on us. It has worked to a degree. He steps up now with little or no arguments. He usually doesnt bite. He barely tolerates a head scratch and seems much happier doing his own thing. The outcome of all this is a change in us, not in him. We came to the realisation, that Oisin doesnt want cuddles, he doesnt want to be held, but that he is a very happy little bird. I will rub him if he asks, which might only be once a week. I will pick him up if he asks. I talk to him and he chatters back and he chats to Liath. We no longer expect him to be the limpet cuddle bunny that Liath is. Once he has a fulfilled happy life then I have to be content with that. He has lots of toys, a lovely home, a friend in Liath and a family that loves him. What more could a grey want?
