I also have 2 greys, one of whom is 2 years old, and the other has just turned 1. My eldest did have a spell where she would scream for quite long spells at a time. I completely ignored her, and as soon as she stopped for a minute or 2 I would go in to the room and talk to her. The only thing you can do is ignore them, hard as this may seem. By going near them to cover them you are inadvertently giving them attention. And I would never ever squirt your grey to stop them doing something. As you have already discovered, you can now no longer bathe them with a spray bottle because they see this as punishment.

I asked this question once about my 2 greys as I thought they got on so well and they would be happier together. This is the answer I got from DAVE007 which I think makes complete sense I didnt put them together and I do think a year on they are very happy and still love each other dearly. "Most birds are happiest when meeting on neutral territoy which yours do. Most birds are happiest when they have their own area to go back to without another bird in the way. Most birds can develop better, more complete personalities if they're alone."

Why don't you do a feather test? All you need to do is pluck 3 or 4 feathers from the chest area and send them off... it costs about £20. That would be a lot less traumatic, not to mention less expensive. Check avianbiotech.com

Well its about 7 actually, I wasnt sure how old your grey is. But yes, you have a few years yet;)

Oh we are definitely happy My birds are so entertaining. I know you must get great satisfaction out of a bird who says something you have been trying to teach them, but imagine how funny it is when they just come out with something you havent taught them :laugh: Like the day after my little niece came to visit Liath started saying Hello poo poo head! (And yes I did tell her Mammy what she had "taught" my grey to say!)

African greys are relatively quiet. As they get older they usually chatter rather than scream. They do tend to mimic loud sounds louder than they actually are though, house alarms, drills etc My two chat and whistle for short spells at a time. When they are chattering you couldnt hold a phone conversation in the room with them, but I have learned to tune them out when I am watching tv etc. Basically they are no louder than a few kids in your home;)

I give my guys chicken bones... but only the big fat leg bone and only cooked ones. They love to suck out all the marrow. They must be getting some nutrition in it (You'll have to wait for the nutrition experts to tell you what sort of nutrition ). My kids think its cannabilism, but I keep reminding them we eat meat from mammals, and that doesnt make us cannabils!:whistle:

I think everyone gets excited about birds that can talk. I have adult friends who sneak into my house really quietly and hide in the next room to hear Liath talk. They know if she knows they are there she won't utter a sound :laugh:

I let my greys shed paper all the time and I have never noticed any nesting behaviour. They are both still quite young though. I think if your grey is enjoying playing with it, let him, and if in the future you do notice nesting behaviour take it away at that point;) I wouldnt deprive him of 5 or 6 years of pure destructive fun just in case something might happen. And as we all know, there is nothing a grey enjoys more, than destroying things:blink: :unsure:

I keep an old sweatshirt near the bird cage that I put on when they want to be on my shoulders. I often have one on each shoulder and I can relate to the sharp talons on bare skin:pinch: I find the sweatshirt is easy to put on, easy to wash and looks reasonably ok if someone arrived unexpectedly

Repetition just doesn't seem to work for Liath. I have said Good morning to her every single morning over and over and she still doesnt say Good morning Liath says what she likes the sound of. She says very obscure things that I can't remember ever having said to her, or maybe only once or twice. Oisin, my other grey says what he hears Liath saying. He is only 1 so he is only starting with the talking.

This is great news! He really sounds like he is coming along well. And you obviously love him very much. And he you. I am a bit jealous though. My grey turned 2 recently and has yet to say I love you (She has the fart sounds off though )
