1. He looks terrified:ohmy: Poor little guy:P
2. Hi Betsy and welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help you as I don't live in the US but it is nice to have you here:) . Siobhan
3. He is so cute:kiss: . When do you think you will be able to bring him home?
4. Danmcq did a poll a while back on talking, and age. Here is the link to it http://poll.pollcode.com/a4R As for vocabulary, I have no idea how many words phrases Liath says, some things she only says a couple of times and others she says for a few months and then seems to forget or stop using. Her longest sentence is probably "Aw Do you need a doctor?" usually said after someone, even herself, coughs or sneezes:)
5. Aw isnt he cute He is making me hungry though:P
6. Don't believe a word she says Jamie. I am a very nice and polite person. My birds learned every ounce of cheekiness they possess from my kids. Honestly :silly:   !
7. Well its very early days, just as you are nervous about him, and why he is doing what he's doing. He is also nervous about you. Give him a chance. Give him some time where no one goes near him and let him absorb all the new sights and sounds in your home. And when you do want to take him out tell him that you are going to. He will understand quicker than you might think! I use Do you want to step up? to tell my greys that I am going to move them or take them out of the cage. Of course that back fired a little because now when Liath wants out, she calls it back to me! I know its natural to worry, but you are doing great Enjoy him!
8. Now I feel stupid:P I still love the chocolate though:) Unfortunately while a grey is learning to fly they can make lots of crash landings, and figuring out how to steer and gain and lose altitude can take some practice also. Just make sure that until he grasps the basic techniques that the windows and mirrors are covered because he won't realise that they are there;) Considering that was his first full day in your home, I'd say he is doing really well!
9. {Feel-good-0002006E} That's much better! But I still can't help you
10. He is gorgeous and I also love the stand
11. Half a kilo will last ages even if he loves them, because he should only be getting one every day, or even every other day. I give them to Liath as an extra special treat or as a bribe:whistle: Oh and you should keep them chilled. That's great news about the vet check! Siobhan
12. Hi Jamie, Welcome to the forum. I love your greys name Leonidas! My favourite chocolate Kind of mean though since the poor grey will never have any:laugh: Well done on the pizza, my guys love it too, and a little every now and then will do him no harm at all. Once he is happy and building up some trust in you its all good;) ! Siobhan
13. {Feel-good-00020069} I read the title of this thread and I thought Shopping! Here's something I know lots about! I can help this person! And then I read your post and realised no I can't.... I don't know anything about bird shops in New York state Sorry:S
14. Edited because I misread your post:blush: ... thought the £15 excluded shipping. That does sound like a good price!

Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/08/01 20:27
15. That is terrible news:ohmy: ! Your poor little girl. Can't you explain to the vet that you can't afford the treatment, he might be able to either reduce the fee, or come to some arrangement about paying by installments over the coming months for you? Obviously you will have to get your amazon tested too, but fingers crossed he will be ok. We are all rooting for you! Siobhan
16. I think you may be confusing pine nuts for palm nuts:whistle: . Palm nuts are indeed expensive, but as you only feed one a day they last a long time. Pine nuts, on the other hand are tiny and relatively inexpensive;)
17. Do you see the abuse I have to put up with Matt? Hands up who else is wondering how it works. I'll bet I'm not alone;)
18.  Now that sounds like a great plan.... what would you call them? An African grey pigeon? Or a Homing Parrot? But I notice that no one was able to answer my questions I don't feel so blonde any more:P
19. I wish you the very best of luck in your new venture. I wouldn't be able to comment one way or another as there are no bird shops here. There are pet shops which sell small bird accessories, but anything you want for a big bird has to be bought on the internet from the UK Probably just as well, because if I could go to a real shop I would probably buy everything I see
20. {Feel-good-0002006B} Maybe HE is  But HE's not saying
21. You could always get a teddy and call it Baxter. Then you would still be Baxters mom! For most greys their is the second word they learn after Hello, so really for Homie's sake you would be better of keeping it. Or you could change it to something very similar like Homer or Roamie. I have a caique whose previous owners called Freak. Obviously I didnt want to keep it, so we changed his name to Beaker. Close enough that he didnt get confused.
22. I am having a blonde moment but I wonder how that works? I mean you go to one of these races and buy a pigeon for silly amounts of money. You bring it home, and feed it and admire it, and then you let it out and it flies back to its original owner! And then the owner can go sell it to the next sucker who comes along How do you teach a homing pigeon that home isnt home any more?
23. Hello Raiderbabe and welcome to the forum. There are lots of threads about bringing home your new baby. If you look at the top of this thread you can see some of them
24. A training session lasts as long as my guys are interested. Some sessions if they are particularly hungry and want to keep earning treats can last 15 minutes, but other times a couple of repetitions and they lose interest. I stop as soon as they want to because I want training to be a fun thing we do together rather than a chore;) .
